  • A video to capture the character of sailing on Paddle Steamer Uri which is part of a fleet of five Paddle Steamers in operation on Lake Luzern in central Switzerland.
The video includes footage of Uri’s first class main saloon with its impressive wooden panelling and the small Stübli (wood panelled cabin) on the upper deck under the bridge. The smaller second class saloon is forward on the main deck with another saloon on the forward lower deck. On all of the Lake Luzern Steamers the upper decks are reserved for first class passengers.
Uri is the oldest operational Paddle Steamer in Switzerland having entered service on 8th May 1901. She was built by Sulzer, Winterthur and has now had 4 major overhauls reentering service in 1949, 1961, 1981, 1994. The 1991-1994 overhaul saw her restored to her original appearance and the installation of two new boilers.
Uri is officially designated as a "Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark" by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) due to her historic steam engine.
Throughout the main summer season she is usually to be found operating the 0912 departure to Flüelen and 1200 return sailing (2018 timings). She is often used in the winter on Christmas and New Year special sailings.
All pictures and videos clips used in this video were taken/filmed in July 2018.
