NASA - Johnson Space Center -Apollo 11 Mission Control Room : Restoration, how it works, visit.

On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon aboard their lunar module of the Apollo 11 mission. Later (we were already on July 21 in Europe) Neil Armstrong walked for the first time on another world.
The whole mission was managed from NASA's famous Johnson Space Center in Houston and more particularly from the room number 2 of mission control.
From 1985 it became an American historical monument, then became a museum that the public could visit. Careless visits caused serious damage to the point that Gene Krantz, the emblematic NASA flight director, designated it as a cathedral in ruins.
From 2017 began its complete renovation thanks, in particular, to the Webster Challenge. This video is also an opportunity to learn about the incredible system at the heart of mission control, without which nothing would have been possible. It is also the opportunity to visit this room and to attend an excerpt of the reconstitution of the atmosphere of July 20, 1969 with the conversations on the audio loop of the flight director. Reconstitution that it is no longer possible to film today.

Merci ! J’aimerai y aller. Cela doit être très émouvant ! On se rend compte que la techno a vraiment évoluée à pas de géant (a giant leap 😅) et qu’à l’époque nous étions encore dans l’ère de l’electro-mecanique. Je pensais, comme beaucoup, que les écrans fonctionnaient comme des moniteurs et non comme des tv ! Belle découverte en tous cas ! Merci !

Je ne me suis jamais posé la question de « comment ces chiffres sont affichés ». Je suppose que naturellement, je ramenais les technologies d’alors à ce que j’ai toujours connu, à savoir un ordinateur par poste.
Bon à la base je planifiais un voyage a New York avec les enfants… Je vais p’tet changer mes plans du coup.
