The Profound Alteration - the internal canvas (part one)

  • Having examined and repaired hundreds of kilts over the years, the one thing that strikes me is how the 'accepted practice' of a narrow piece of tailor's hair canvas invariably becomes detached from the tartan cloth - which then often leads to unsightly seam-failures throughout the fell (sewn portion of the pleats.)
Here is my own method, which seems (pun intended) to correct the situation.
This series was done in a tearing hurry as I worked against the clock to have this kilt ready in time for the client's next performance.

Thanks for publishing these videos. I found your channel in a roundabout way as I am thinking of getting a new bespoke kilt constructed...I am learning towards Mackenzie Seaforth. I am not a tailor, but learning about the techniques for creating kilts is fascinating.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I must apologise for this late reply as I'm seldom 'idle' enough to keep up with my social media (HOW do people get anything done when they're blogging about it all the time?)

By making my methods 'open source' I hope to educate the consumer so that by understanding the procedures they may make informed choices when shopping for a kilt - you'll be able to spot good (and bad) work when you see it!

I've also just today ordered a vast quantity of Seaforth #2 kilt cloth, so if you're wanting a kilt made, please contact me through the website or through my FB page.
