I would honestly think adding more colour variants to characters, possibly 8 more. It could expand on some characters backstory and previous and new designs. For a example, a Metroid Dread Samus would fit perfectly for a new variant to Samus. Or even a Sunshine Mario and possibly Shadow Mario. It will add much more to the game.

What can they do to make a Smash game better than Ultimate? Rollback netcode.
Jokes aside, I like what you proposed in the video. It's pretty much the only way I could see Smash going free to play without major backlash. I could be wrong because I've been exposed to all of the worst microtransaction schemes in mobile gaming. It seems you dislike echo fighters, but couldn't they be incorporated into this new skin system? Instead of having the echo fighters as their own characters, they're now an echo skin that play differently to their original counterparts.

I would rather use the coins in the game to buy items/cosmetics/taunts. Though the inclusion of other characters in one fighter slot actually would be a nice touch in the newer smash title.

Cosmetic micros are good if the game is initially free. Look at fortnite and league of legends both are free but can boast millions in profit. Imagine it initially being free with whatever console subscription it comes and it being on every single console.
Look at Halo infinite, free to play but everything is locked behind a 28 dollar "season pass" just because a game is free doesn't excuse this behavior I mean they're literally charging $20 for the color white...
