Not too many teachers are qualified to teach these students as they are already at a super high level. It’s awesome to see what a masterclass looks like. Great job Lang Lang
The kid is very good technically but as often is the case with younger musicians, the interpretation is not quite there. Lang Lang is just the teacher he needs to develop further. It's amazing to see how he picks up on every little thing that Lang Lang says. In time he'll be truly great, with age and life experiece also comes musical maturity, I feel.

Master Lang Lang very careful about the dynamics, rhythm and clear articulation which gives out the character of this piece. Clayton has good technical and very talented student.
He's such an expressive pianist especially at the longer and slower sections in this piece. he really puts a lot of emotion in this piece and I can also feel it inside. This is such an important quality as a pianist. Lang Lang also did an incredible job pointing out the parts where he needed to improve.

16:40 - it is interesting what Lang Lang says about him preferring the beginning being played without pedal and staccato. A lot of performers mirror his thoughts - and it does create a certain scary percussive effect. Liszt however indicated pedal all through the opening passage. Now I believe every pianist has a right to an individual interpretation (and I like the opening with or without pedal - it sounds unique and just mind-blowingly modern for a piece from the mid-1800s either way:), but it would have been nice to hear Lang Lang mention that Mr. Stephenson actually played the beginning more in line with Liszt's score.
My guess is that Liszt indicates pedal throughout the beginning because the pianos back then were a lot dryer sounding in comparison to today’s richer sounding pianos
I love how the people walking by in the background are captivated and brought to a dead stop and the fact that you can't see any of their faces. The body language speaks so much volume.
Lang Lang really brought the life, breath and even temperature of the piece through the subtle change of the rythme, contrast, length and force of the sound and make the clash to your spirit happen. He can really easily make any notes no longer flat and piled up, but with so many layers, depth, colors and complexity. It also likes he can easily creat a magical line to link to your heart and lead it to anywhere the music want u to go but also in a very smooth, warm and comfortable way full of love and romance. Yes, really enjoy watching those masterclass. You can easily understand and hear the difference, perticular where is the “clash” from excellent to real Master! I think those young people should be really appreciated those teaching. Because the earlier to realize those small but critical details and start to practice to improve their performance, the sooner they can outstand themselves among so many talents! OMG, GOD just gave so many gifts to people! And people who success not only need time, efforts but also a good teacher from early age! Relatively, opportunity is important but not that important because when it comes, the people who well acculturated and prepared can get it.
