    I recently bought a used Leica X2 and it's become my everyday camera. It's so nice and compact without the external EVF.

    Crazy thing is when you said $600-$700 for an x2 when this video was made. In 2022, they’re all going for around $900+ USD. Many of them around $1100 or so. Crazy to think an old digital camera going up in price instead of going down

    • @itssimplyjeff1
      @itssimplyjeff1 Před rokem +1

      you can still find em around that price if you scope it out. i picked up a leica XE for $735 + shipping on mpb in what looks and feels like essentially brand new condition. i've also seen a couple of X1's & X2's go for under $700 on auctions [just not buy it now on ebay]

    • @Deetroiter
      @Deetroiter Před rokem +1

      I have an x2 and a TL2 these days, even though the TL2 is ‘superior’ to the x2, many times I find myself just grabbing the x2 since I have the Leica carrying case for it and I can just throw it over my shoulder then go for a walk. Small, compact, and capable of some mind blowing pics. I feel like the x2 really makes you work for those photos but it’s really rewarding once you get them. Lowlight is horrendous and a thing in motion is a total no go, for everything else is perfect

    Have had many Leicas, starting with M2/M4/M9/M10 and bought an X2 from a friend a couple years ago, mainly to fool around with.
    Have to say that I travel a lot and have the X2 with me 99% of the time, whereas my M9 might stay at home a lot of the trips.
    I might be a non-standard digital photographer since my M2, M4, M9 and M10 all were mostly used with the 35mm Summicron lens alone, so the X2 is really a no-brainer for me, having been used to the 35mm FOV for decades. I do, however, have the EVF, which I use all the time, plus one of those self-retracting lens caps for quick action. For weatherproofing I have a third party lens barrel with a filter and shade that protects the otherwise vulnerable retracting lens mechanisms.
    What can I say? It's a full-fledged Leica, not a Panaleica (I have those as well, (Type 114, Digilux 2)), and the IQ is definitely Leica.
    Super happy with it.
    Oh - and one last comment. The X design is a call-back to the original Leica rangefinder camera. And how can that be? It's so much smaller than the M series, one might say.
    Well that's because the M series was not the original Leica camera. The III series was. Cartier Bresson and his peers all started with the III series, back then. The III series lenses have M39 screw mounts, which were slow to change, so most of them kept just one lens on each camera body.
    So if you compare the X series cameras not with the M series but with the III series, you can very clearly see the heritage between the two.

      So you recommend to buy a Leica X2, in 2020 ? it's a real question because i'm really interrest by the X2 but he is quite old now..

    • @StansburyStudiosInc
      @StansburyStudiosInc Před 4 lety +1

      @@enzocamano6500 Hey Enzo! I have my X2 sitting right in front of me now. Where I go, it goes. My more expensive, newer cameras are all... in their camera bags. Where I go, they sometimes go, depending on who's paying, or if anybody at all is paying for their trip out from home and their bags. Basically that's it. My X2 captures many shots the other, newer ones do not. Because it's small and light and not too expensive, I use it, not like an expensive toy, but a real camera. In the end, this is that is in my hand even more than my iPhone, which is in my pocket most of the time. Can you tell how old a camera is by the pictures it takes? You can probably get one used for around $700 nowadays. Which, BTW, is the same price I paid for my 5MP Leica Digilux-2, a camera introduced in 2003 and that still has a photo thread on the Leica forum to this day (yes, the thread is 17 years old) with people posting their Digilyx-2 shots pretty much every day since 2003. I'll say this again. 2003. Leica. 5MP. Still a current camera.
      Leicas don't follow trends. They lead trends.

    • @StansburyStudiosInc
      @StansburyStudiosInc Před 4 lety +1

      @@enzocamano6500 Enzo, you're very welcome! Ultimately you have to decide whether or not a Leica is for you, and why. For me, it's the history. Leica made the very first, original 35mm stills camera. All other 35mm film cameras came from that original. That was over 100 years ago. Most people think digital cameras last 2-3 years and then that's it. Well it wasn't always like that. But so very few camera makers still believe in the best of top quality any more. People like Canon make many many many more cameras and sell for varying prices, in order to keep their camera company going. People like Leica charge high high high prices per camera, in order to keep themselves in business. So... are you headed towards cheap cheap cheap and many images? Or quality, quality fewer fewest best images? Pick a Leica up and see why everybody of quality chose it, from then til now.

    What are your thoughts on this camera in 2022...? Did you shift to a Q or stay with the 'compact' X2? For me, the X2 still holds true as I can't see myself going to the Q, especially as I shoot with 'tact sharpness' is not important.

    I have a few Leica from film to digital, from compact to rangefinders. You mention the design and proceed to show the camera but it is mostly hidden by the case! You mention the best looking at 0:55 yet we cannot see the camera for the case. At 1:09 you state as we can see yet again what you talk about is hidden by the case.
    I have a D-Lux, IIIf, M3, M9, M-E so am in agreement about the Leica design and thought process.
    This is an excellent video, just wished to give you constructive criticism.

    • @StansburyStudiosInc
      @StansburyStudiosInc Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah unfortunately most of the later ones missed the boat Especially the X Type 113, which I was really looking for, with its faster lens.... BUT they screwed the pooch with that one by losing the EVF capability, if I remember correctly. Passed on that one in a heartbeat. The EVF2 is the heart of the X2 system and yes you can get a cheaper Olympus one and tape over the name - but, see, that's not as cool as getting a real Leica one - and then taping over that name! Cos all the bashers come around and thing you've taped it cost it's the cheaper branded one, and when you/they pull it off, you can tell them what the tape is really for!

    Did you shoot this video in 2019 or 2020? You talk about 2019 several times. Also, there are plenty of auto focus film cameras, but I guess that's just an oversight. I watched your video because I am interested in the X2, but I was not convinced. Your example shots are great, you should show them more in your videos. Clearly the X2 has great colours, but I think I am going for a Fuji X70 instead.

    The Ricoh GR3 has much more advanced features than the X2 mainly the magnetic sensor stabilization, that in itself renders these two cameras completely different. Different tool for a different job folks.

    • @orangorill
      @orangorill Před 4 lety

      The GR3 is much more expensive though. I'd say the main competitors to this camera are the older X100s, X70 and GR2. Or, you could get a new XF10.

    • @unbroken1010
      @unbroken1010 Před 3 lety

It's a very tricky balance but you pointing out differences of an 8 year old camera course the tech is going to be different

  • @JohnRicard
    @JohnRicard Před 3 lety

    The shutter lag and slow playback is not a "limitation". It's a design flaw. A real limitation would be something like having only 1 fixed lens since the camera has certain benefits fro that choice. There is no benefit at all to having a sluggish camera. It's a flaw that adds nothing to the experience or functionality of the camera.
