I am from Finland and I love this Danish folksong / military march very much! The Danish-German war of 1864 somewhat reminds me of the Winter War of 1939: small nations fighting against far larger enemies. Both Denmark and Finland lost some territory in their respective wars but both managed to survive as independent nations.
Před 3 lety+27
That was a little bit more complicated in 1864. Denmark wanted to end the sovereignty of Schleswig and Holstein.
As Oldřich Štros said, Denmark wanted to end the sovereignty of "german" duchies. And to the "surviving" bit: Bismarck did not take the rest of Denmark because they fought so hard just to get Schleswig or anything. Quite the contrary actually as the danish King asked for incorporation into the german confederation as long as the integrity of the realm could be kept. Russia and Great Britain said that would be a big No No and thus the King was left with crippled Denmark.

1864 - Second Schleswig War. It was impossible to win, Austria and Prussia united in one cause. Denmark faces a decline in power 1914 - Three Kings's Meeting. Scandinavia made the great choice to stay neutral in the terrible Great War 1919 - Despite not fighting in the war, Denmark gets the chance to reclaim lost lands 1920 - After more than 50 years, Denmark's honor is reclaimed. Without the loss of a single soldier! What I truly love is that they new border went exactly along the ethnic lines. Denmark did not annex the ethnic German lands That's what I call a good story Love Denmark from Poland! I truly adore your land
Denmark's honour wasn't really reclaimed in 1920. In 1864, Denmark lost Schleswig, Holstein, and Lauenburg, which in total was about a third of the Danish European territory. Lauenburg was just a recently acquired random fief, and Holstein was an old German duchy that was controlled by the Danish king, yet both part of the German Union and the Danish Kingdom, but Schleswig was a core Danish duchy for a thousand years at that point. The Prussians promised they would hold a vote in the duchies, to see who wanted to be part of Prussia and Denmark, yet that never happened and a lot of Danes fled during 1864-1920, not in the least due to forced conscriptions and Germanisation. Then when Denmark was given the opportunity to take everything following WW1, the parliament decided to finally have the vote the Prussians had promised, even though the king wanted all of Schleswig which almost led to the end of monarchy. That vote resulted in the modern borders, where Denmark got about a quarter of the lost land back, which was incidentally also pretty much what the Danish nationalists had wanted in 1864 (the king wanted to keep everything, but the Danish nationalists only wanted the Danish parts). Obviously that border was in the Germans favour since they had displaced a lot of Danes which meant the votes pushed the border further north than what would've happened back in 1864. The Danish border was the only one that the Germans didn't contest during WW2. I think the fact that German ultranationalists didn't have any problems with the Danish-German border underlines how much the Danes got screwed over when said border was drawn.

Quick correction: The translation of the title would be "The brave footsoldier"
"The brave soldier". The last part was added in 2018 abit after 1812 and 1848... Makes it sound kinda nazi. Maybe thats the point...
no, land soldier

Danmark til Ejderen!
I like that this song both sounds patriottic and has hint of humor at the same time lol. The hell is meant with "my gall wanted to go" or something?
That his girl/girlfriend wanted to come along
It's also a great disstrack against the peerussians

1864 - Second Schleswig War. It was impossible to win, Austria and Prussia united in one cause. Denmark faces a decline in power
1914 - Three Kings's Meeting. Scandinavia made the great choice to stay neutral in the terrible Great War
1919 - Despite not fighting in the war, Denmark gets the chance to reclaim lost lands
1920 - After more than 50 years, Denmark's honor is reclaimed. Without the loss of a single soldier! What I truly love is that they new border went exactly along the ethnic lines. Denmark did not annex the ethnic German lands
That's what I call a good story
Love Denmark from Poland!
@@fridrekr7510 so... originally, the Danes inhabited a greater part of Schleswig?
Good song
God bless Denmark 🇩🇰
