The man had guts though, no doubt about it. That outfit wouldn't really turn anyone's head in the later 80s and after, but in the late 70s ... that's some serious trail blazin' going on there.
He was like 19 years old, I recall.
Did this one not air for some reason? I thought I'd seen every one when they first aired.
@@SheilaLS ...it aired the summer of 79 or 80.
Thank you for sharing this
Watching Prince develop to maturity was a lesson to behold, and I honestly feel in the last ten years of his life he was ashamed of his past actions, and if Prince were alive he'd do his best to have this taken down!!
Total package of talent and charisma
anything from this era is a amazing find.thanks for posting
Wow! I didn't know Prince performed on Midnight Special. I also thought his first live TV appearance was on American Bandstand. Nice to see rare gems like this...
bandstand was recorded first in Dec 79 this was recorded Jan 8 1980...but it was aired first (thus he did not talk to Dr Hook). he did this and "Why you wanna treat me so bad?" (on Both shows). Yes they were required to lip-synch...but the were live Feb 1981 on SNL.
@@JohnAnderson42 Oh ok...thanks for the clarification...😃
He is so cutting edge and different yet he displays so many characteristics of many past R&b soul come funk performers. He dances like James Brown but he plays lead guitar like Ernie Isley . You could tell by this performance that great things were going to come his way. So much talent. 😊
Prince is killing it on this track.
Prince kicking ass as usual !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At last !!!! Thanks ! Glad 2 have it in pristine quality.
I'm sure the other song "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad ?" will B posted.
Great channel ! So happy as a huge Prince fan...
I agree about the boots , and stealing your woman. He was a great, amazing, unique entertainer.
I enjoy his showmanship🎉
Awesome performance 💜
It’s a lip sync. They’re just miming to the record.
@@PoundTown595yeah .. but given they had only done 12 concerts before this show and that he would go on to be one of the great live preformers... Maybe you can cut them a break
@@JohnAnderson42 I’m not criticizing Prince. It just wasn’t really a performance.
At long last, on youtube for everyone to see
Wow! Never seen this before. He could wear anything and get by with it!
Raw talent @ its best, he revolutionized music and the world loved it….R.I.H. Our purple Highness.👑
Prince looks so HOT here!
This is actually where the Hamburgler was discovered
Robble robble. 🍔
Prince: 1 of 1 💜
Look, Mary. Prince has on. The Boots. Go ahead, my brother. One of the greatest ever no doubt about it.💜👑✌🏾♥️🌷
Sassy, 🎉Classy 🎉 & just a lil’ 🎉BADASSY !!! 🎉
I LOVE Prince!!! 💞💜💜💜💞
Nice
So raunchy and 💯 real. Loving this Minneapolis sound, way before "Purple Rain and 1999"
Just look at this piece of dynamite - he was so incredible. Wow, what we lost.
FUNKY and NASTY hell yeah Prince rip
I saw prince around this time in 1981. He opened for the Rolling Stones was not well known like today. He was booed mercilessly and had bottles and food thrown at him. From what I remember people didn't dig his womanly looks or ways ~
Jagger wore women’s clothes and more make up that Prince and years before if not a whole decade
So did David Bowie I saw Bowie in 1976 Montreal forum. I’ve seen the Stones 6 times. Sadly I never saw Prince. I remember reading an article about him in 1980 in The Village Voice. They said he was the next big thing. He was such a talented writer musician producer. So sad. Cheers from Montreal
don't forget the racist names they called him also
Wow. That cool. He did 2 shows with them ... I think it was the LA coliseum? After the first show Prince flew back home. But Jager talked him into going back. Thoes 2 shows are legendary. At least one was bootleged.
Stupid comment about a guy that became that big. @@machine4443
Prince got that nice good hair. That press and curl blow out. He got more hair than half the women i seen today and so talented
Ya ni me acordaba de esa canción que escuchaba cuando adolescente. Que buena rola como decíamos escuchando estéreo mil, union radio, radio aeropuerto en los finales de los 70 e inicios de los 80 en Tegucigalpa Honduras. 😊
I love the song Controversies
that is a great song... and would come out in 81... the fact that he put the Lord's Prayer on that song is crazy.
