  • in the last episode we teardown the Eachine ex5 GPS Drone and transmitter and made some modifications to the antenna to boost the signal and today we tested the range to see how much we improve the range of the Wifi FPV that didn't go as planned because we crashed the drone

    That drone was trying to bite ya😂 Great mod, David lost his at 3k ft. The drone had a Malfunction and flipped and fell straight into the lake. I need to get mine in the air soon, well take care my friend.

      ye what a shame he lost it but that is the risk of flying over water i lost my e58 that way and learned my lesson to test above land untill you know its working good and safely thx for watching :D

      @@HowToDIYRc David I did test it above land, the lake is dried up luckily but the soil on the lake bed is still too wet to walk out there and retrieve it, its like quicksand at the moment. I may try attempt to go and get it at the end of summer while the hot weather dries the soil up hard as a rock. Just not safe to head out there right now as the lake was full of water only 2-3 weeks ago 👍

    Good try buddy, you seemed to fly it in much higher winds than I did on my WiFi fpv antenna mod test the other day, unfortunately mine must of had some sort of malfunction, still not 100% sure what happened but looked like it could have been motor or maybe broken prop as it just flipped and fell out of the sky onto the lake bed below. I may try retrieve it later in summer when the soil dries up properly to see what the cause was and if it still works. I did manage to get 300m solid WiFi fpv reception

      cant you use a boat or a float to recover the drone? its already summer in your country right?
      because in holland its only rain and windy storms for months non stop feels like winter never stops living so close to the uk lol

    Too bad such a good drone has such poor management software, it freezes during each flight and closes the application. So it annoys me so much because I spend a lot of time and batteries to get the drone back through the remote control and you get everything back on. I don’t know how they can advertise a 1km range and you don’t actually get even a realistic 200m ☹️.

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  Před 3 lety

      because there are 3version 1km and 200meters i got the 200meters version

    • @lisjak82
      @lisjak82 Před 3 lety

      I have a 1 KM range, but I have the same range and application issues, MAX 200 m without jamming the app, then problems start . It may fly over the remote much longer, but the problem is because you can't see it.
      But this is my first drone I bought in order to learn the basics of flying before I buy a more expensive DJI mini 2 , so these things don't bother me too much, but it's not OK about what they promise before buying.

    • @HowToDIYRc
      @HowToDIYRc  Před 3 lety +1

      open up the drone and check if the fpv module have 1 or 2 antenna 1 antenna is 200meters version 2 antenna is 1km version

  • @gimpman1357
    @gimpman1357 Před 3 lety

    You should do a mod to reduce the range to less than 100m. That way you will have live fpv feed and you will be less likely to crash it into a building, person or lake. The ex5 is beginner junk.

      not every one can afford a dji mavic mini
