    Actually I'd argue that the Rune of Oath and Steel is still quite useful. Most armour-piercing units still have a good portion of non-ap damage and Oath and Steel puts these guys above the armour cap of 200, meaning pretty much no non-ap damage gets through.

    • @doktarr
      @doktarr Před 3 lety +11

      They're already around 180 Armor though, which blocks over 99% of non-AP damage on average - except for a single point of damage, which gets though even at 200 armor. The marginal difference between 180 and 200 is pretty tiny.

    • @doktarr
      @doktarr Před 3 lety +5

      @@alexeyalexandrov7583 Yes, the math is pretty clear on this.
      At 200 you take 1 non-AP damage (would be zero but it's a minimum of 1).
      At 160 you get a random number between 80 and 160. If it's above 100 then you take 1 non-AP damage. If it's below 100 you block that percentage of the non-AP damage. If you do the math, on average you are blocking 97.5% of the damage - ignoring the minimum of 1 damage, which is what you are usually taking.
      Most of the time the minimum 1 damage means it's no different. Even if the attack is coming from a non-AP melee lord that does ~300 non-AP damage, the difference between 160 armor and 200 armor is an average difference of maybe 7 damage per hit. That's the most extreme case and it's still not that significant.

    Wow. This is the test. That's what I understand. To be honest, I wonder why humans use dark elf armies so often as test models. Druchii are strong, no doubt, but to be honest, they are far from the strongest possible late-game computer armies. Most often they have well-balanced armies, containing a little bit of everything - a strong and varied infantry, some monsters, artillery, magic and strong heroes. They are generally very strong, but not the best at anything. Therefore, there are so many ways to deal with them.
    However, the worst situations I have always happened with two factions - the high elves and the lizardmen. The first ones I consider to be the really strongest computer opponents, because in their roster most of the units, starting with the basic infantry, are very strong. Yes, they are not cheap, but the computer has no financial problems, so it is fine. In addition, the AI does not collect the late armies of asuras from anyhow - they always have many strong units of 4-5 tier - the sisters of Avelorn, phoenix guards, dragons and phoenixes. The presence of 3-4 peacocks in one army in itself is already a big pain, since they are almost indestructible and are smeared with Vaseline from beak to claw. Over and over again they create a point of concentrated power on your most vulnerable units at the moment and fly away as soon as it gets hot.
    Well, the second army of my nightmares is now running on the screen. Because they're fucking huge fat dinosaurs. Half of the factions do not have the tools at all to fight the top-tier monsters in such numbers, while the rest requires creating an army specifically against such an army, which will not be so good in other situations, and at the same time will cost a lot of money. A huge pile of money.
    So I have a lot of respect for someone who spent so much time doing a really cool test for their doomstack.

      @Несгибаемый Оджас No longer. Since the release of the Sisters of Twilight (and the revamped chaos invasion), Moulder has ruled the North. In a vortex campaign, it is most often Throt who buries Nagarrond, while in MEMpires it is incinerated by an invasion of chaos. Malekith now most often shamelessly moves to live with Malus, since he is also not married. Or he sits sadly with his bodyguards in the super-fortified capital, watching from his balcony the rest of his kingdom ablaze.

Pfff... that will be like 5-10 dmg per hit (IF they hit with that pathetic 34 attack against 90 defence). So, like a true elf pussy, runing away from combat with shit in your pants and spamming magic? How the hell you want to kill 20 dwarves with 8,4k HP each (4,8k base + 3,6k regen) and 90% magic res? I think this might be a hard counter to the pompus skinks. The dwarfs could take out dreadsaurians who have more damage output than the stegadons of the pompus skinks and they also have more health. There is also a dwarf rare equipment that makes them unbreakable so that takes care of the biggest advantage that the skinks have on this army. Another thing that the skinks have going for them is magic but dwarfs are innatiely magic resistant.

Even the stinky beastmen with Death&Wild magic cannot do anything if you just put unbreakable equipment on the thanes. 0 hp Krimson Killers only work against AI anyway, since the player just needs to destroy all of the heroes in the army to win.
      The only problem with the thane army is that it cannot catch anything. So a human opponent that doesn't obey the tournament rules could just kite it until a draw occurs. If you prohibit the time-out draw, this army is probably the strongest.

    I have a few ideas to improve the damage of this stack:
    1. There is a cheap craftable Talisman which reduce fire-resist in an area. Combined with the flame banner, it could perhaps increase the damage potential of this stack a fair bit (just remember to remove the flame banner vs fire res units).
    2. There is also a random drop item which reduce magic resist in an area by 22%. It would only have minor impact without the Thanes dealing magic damage (which is possible with a Talisman). The downside is that this item goes in the same slot as the Tankard, thus one Runesmith would have to rely on another regen item - or alternatively kill Isabella to give the Runelord regen from another source.
    3. I also think having one slow aura weapon could be quite useful to diminish the speed disadvantage (can't kill what you can't reach!).
    It's probably also worth replacing one Thane with a Cannon for a siege attacker. The Cannon would of course need to be withdrawn every battle. At the same time, having some ranged firepower ain't too bad when corner camping anyways.

    • @Mr.ToadJanfu
      @Mr.ToadJanfu Před 3 lety

      The problem with replacing a thane with a cannon is that it would pretty much eliminate the possibility of using auto-resolve. This Army is already pretty slow at battles so eliminating any hope of skipping some of them is pretty damaging to the usability compared to burning one end turn on building a ram.

    Getting the items for the heroes is fine, because late game oathgold is a meme. And as for hero caps, both Thanes and Runesmiths are pretty easy to get a large number of, even if you use 1-2 of them in each of your earlier 'balanced' armies. Impressive, 10/10.

    Yo legend, I think the groups have hotkeys defaulted to the number key of the number of the group.
    So for example, if you put only the Master Runesmith in group 1, you can select it by pressing 1 while still having your mouse around the abilities wheel, instead of having to sling the mouse left & right just to go click the unitcard.
    Same goes for wizards! I know you don't like control groups but if you combine this with the hotkeys for spells (ALT + number) you can probably make your spellcasting more efficient & also raise your spot accuracy because you don't have to sling the mouse between the battlefield & the spells-wheel.

    @LegendofTotalWar you mention getting a second army to overlap the lord's abilities too (to make sure there are no gaps). Presumably that army would need to have a few runsesmiths too to lower his cooldown? Or does the cooldown reduction work on all units in a given battle instead of just the hero's army?
    The plus side of this method is that you wouldn't need as many runesmiths in each army (3 or 4) and you could add more thanes - because it wouldn't matter if there is a bit of cooldown given you now have the second lord to cover the cooldown period. It would mean being a little more careful with the timing of the runes though. Also, dealing with the reinforcement location could be a pig if you're on the defensive.

      @Coolostomy i saw several units were breaking 200+ armour meaning even on the worst armour roll they are absorbing 100% of the non AP damage thrown at them. This army would require a scalpel precise counter-build to defeat. As I'm mostly familiar with woodelves I can't imagine anything that would be able to beat them. Not even turbo charge bonus'd units would be able to damage them once you include the phys resist, armour and melee ability. This is probably a time when CA should investigate changing some of the less useful spells to maybe scale with caster level, so that when you cast the armour/MD/MA reducing spells its much more powerful at level 40 than at level 4. Just because the AI doesn't doom stack doesn't mean they can't by accident, all the tools are there for the AI to use.
      Perhaps on Legendary campaign the AI should doomstack too, just to drive home that this is the hardest difficulty and Autoresolve should be sparsely used.

    • @Iwmar
      @Iwmar Před 3 lety +4

      This is the strongest doomstack in the game, even stronger than the morale reduction shit. I think only way you could beat this is by having an army consisting entirely of fliers or ranged units which are way faster than dworfs. Maybe something like an army of Skaven rattling gunners with shitload of engineers boosting their movement speed.

    • @vilpef9162

    6 Runesmiths are overkill, you really don't need to reduce runic ability cooldown to 0 as with just 2 or 4 Runesmiths+the Runelord you can still have 100% uptime of both the armor and ward save runes. Speaking of which, you don't even need the Runelord and can use a regular Lord(or 1 of the legendary lords) with 2-4 Runesmiths and you can easily cap physical resistance with items. Alaric Armor is the most overpowered item in the Oathgold forge, not sure why he isn't using those. With just the Rune of Negation from the Runesmith and ideal items from the forge you can get 90% ward save, perfect vigor, unbreakable and regeneration on all your heroes and the lord. This will be just as good if not better than the 89% ward save Arcane Phoenix doomstack, only with regen, unbreakable and perfect vigor too. Not sure why you said this isn't the strongest doomstack in the game. As you said even this current so called "fully optimized", which it isn't, version is nigh unkillable by even 4 elite armies|(which this wasn't) what else do you need to have the strongest possible doomstack? The damage is not amazing but solid enough and this stack has absolutely 0 weaknesses. Sure it will take a while to kill said 4 stacks of elite enemy armies but with battle timer turned off that's really not an issue. Once defense is strong enough damage stops being a factor and this is the definition of an ultimate doomstack Imho. Other doomstacks, even the so called best ones like Necrofex Collosi spams and whatnot have their limits. This stack on the other hand can theoretically destroy endless stacks, if the game allowed you to fight against more than 4 armies that is.

Lizard army is waaaaay more of a pain to recruit and you would need to farm items for ages in order to get the necessary items to beat this stack. That also would never happen if the dwarf corner camp due to how hit boxes work. 1 lizard Dino will always be fighting more dwarfs than itself. Magic is also useless against the dwarfs and their leadership is too high to get pompous cheesed and simple item changes could solidify that further bc of the forge.
