"It's not the push it's the pull". Thank you very much Blair. After 1 hour of trying to fix my clogged toilet, I finally got my toilet to flush. The mistake I made was that I was pushing the plumber harder than I was pulling it. Thank you for uploading this video. Super helpful!
Perhaps you should have cleared the blockage with fireworks.
😎 cool!!!
25 years old and never had a clogged toilet in my life. Flushed down a toilet paper roll and your “it’s the pull” tip really helped me! Tried again after watching your video and toilet is unclogged. I don’t have to call my landlord or plummer now. Thank you!
This was so helpful I went out, bought the tools and was able to fix my toilet by myself. Every few months my toilet slows down and eventually comes to a hault, usually I call my landlord but this was much easier. Thank you Mr. Hardware!
Thank you! I had been working a bad plunger for an hour until I saw your video, then I bought a better plunger and did the "pull" instead of "push" emphasis and it was fixed in like 10 minutes. Didn't have to call the landlord or a plumber. Thanks for saving my weekend.
Omg, sir! You just helped me unclog my toilet. I watched a dozen videos, tried bleach, dish washing soap, hot water, plunging for 15 seconds but nothing worked. But your method of the pull instead of the push helped. Thank you!!!
You just saved us a plumbing call and lots of frustration and time. Our child put some unknown object in the toilet and it was clogged. Plunging didn't help. We tried that for hours until we found your video. A quick trip to Home Depot, and $9.95 for the cheapo router snake, bingo, it did the trick. Thank yoU!!!
Hi Blair. Love your videos.
A while back I had issues with my economy auger because the line was being circled back. I found this out from the plumber that came out to clear the toilet. I went out and bought a 6' "industrial" closet auger for about $45. I wish I had started with that one years ago. It pounds through just about anything. You'll still have to remove the toilet for big toys and things in there but for normal TP clogs and items that aren't quite as big, this will take care of it all.
"It's not the push; it's the pull" Mr. Hardware, these words have just save my family so much money, if we would have needed to call an emergency plumber service on a Sunday!!! I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make this instructional video, 1st on how to properly use my plunger (I have the same one you used in the video), lastly using those infamous words it's the pull and not the push. Again, I thank you.
Thank you so much for your tip about 'it's not about the PUSH, it's the PULL'. My clogged was getting worse and worse and I saw your video and did a pull several times and boom, it worked!!! Thank you so much!!
THANKS, you resolved my 7 days clogging issue! really awesome!!!
Thank you for posting this. After watching your video I realized I had a toilet auger hanging in my garage from the previous owner and I just never knew what it was. Immediately after watching this video I headed down to my garage to retrieve the auger and after five minutes I was able to pull the razor blade from my bathroom toilet. Saved me time and money.
Mr. Blair: Thank you for your advise. My toilet is often plugged by hard stools," you medicine folks know what i'm talking about," and the water drains very slowly. I use a 6ft auger and still no change, so i saw your trick. I first used a 1/2cup liquid soap and a 6gal pot of boiling water, then took the plunger and let the air out it "don't get a face full of ?" and pushed and pulled one time and BAM! IT WORKED!!!
Thanks for saving me a huge plumbers bill.
When using a closet auger, insert the bent tubing w/the cable retracted. once the bend of the tubing is in the bottom of the toilet push the crank handle down so the cable goes up into the toilet until it stops. usually about 10 inches. Then continue pushing while cranking and the cable will work its way past the trap and hopefully dislodge the obstruction.
is the device u used closet auger?
Thank you Jesus my mom would have killed me!!
Dakota Day 😂😂
Dolo
Lol
Thanks for the great informational video! I never realized that it was the pull rather than the push of the plunger that clears the clog. Also, the closet auger looks very useful, and I'm going to get one. Thanks again for posting this video! :)
Thanks for posting this video! I bought a $9 auger from Lowe's and fixed the clog myself! 🚽
Thanks--I hadn't been using the auger correctly, so this should help. I also only just learned about being able to push the flap in the tank down to stop an overflowing flush--can't believe no one ever taught me that before.
Seriously this video is everything!! Thank you soooo much!! You saved my skin!!
Thanks. You helped me out of a tight spot, involving a popsicle stick... lol
Wow, I would have never thought of using a plunger. Great video !!!
Can't thank you enough for this video, it really saved my life (and fixed my toilet).
Thank you for your video, clear, easy--Best thing---toilet auger worked!
Thank you for your video and making it so simplle to understand!!!
Thank you! Great tip about the release of the plunger!
when you can, get the clog out of the drain. Forcing it down may only lead to a more severe problem later.
First person ive seen online how to correctly use a plunger.
Thank you, Mr. Hardware Gilbert Sir!! 😊 your video is so helpful. Time to buy an Auger first thing tomorrow 👍🏻
omg thank you thank you couldnt get mine down for anything. But with your correct way to use auger and plunger hoping it is fixed for good.
Thank you for giving me an education on the problem toilet Mr. Hardware.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH :),
Really awesome!!!
You resolved my clogging issue!
I was about to take my toilet out of the floor until I saw this video.
I tried the pull method with the plunger and it worked.
Thank you so much for this information!!
Wow!!! Thank you!! Perfect solution that worked instantly!!
Thanks! I was able to clear a stubborn clog thanks to your guidance. I really appreciate the tutorial. :)
Thanks a lot. We expect more of this kind from you

Thank you for this video! It helped me figure what I was doing wrong!
Thankyou sooooo much, you aree a life saver. Lessened the stress today. I could cry 😥😢😭
THANK YOU..you were very helpful with the closet snack because i used it wrong lol
theres nothing down there now i will use the CRV for the calcium deposits i guess for the jets steam around the toilet, right?
THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THIS, DID THE TRICK!
Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks, my toilet did Niagara’s falls few seconds ago. This video helped me out in 2020 ❤️
I saved my toilet on this date 10/10/2020
I learned something new... just got my own place recently, which means dad is not here to unclog toilets. I want to thank you- I finally unplugged my toilet after 4hrs of trying. Thank you for emphasizing that when using a plunger the "pull" is the trick. I got a plunger same as yours, so got rid of the air, pushed and vigorously pulled... voila! Thank you!!!!!! (For some reason the dish soap trick didn't work this time.. only drained half the water)
Thank you!!! The "pull" trick solved my problem.
7 years later and you still help us from getting out asses beat
A brand new bar of soap fell in the toilet and clogged it. I used Drano and hot water, it was slowly working. Then I used the plunger to PULL then the clogged disappear. It really is the pulled. November 2018.
Great tutorial! Thanks!
😁😁😁😁 You are a Genius Thank You so much I have been viewing videos online but I came across your video went in the toilet boldly and did exactly what you showed and 👏👏👏👏 it worked Thank You, Thank You, Thank You no need for a plumber (it was clogged with toilet paper thanks to my toddler)
This was perfect... saved me from looking for a video on snake use. Great instruction, it worked perfectly. Cheers.
Thanks!
Thank you! I had a toilet snake but didn't know how to use it. Worked like a charm and pulled out the offending 3 baby wipes!
Thanks for the tips! Unclogged a half used tube of toothpaste!
after watching your video i put more umph into getting that auger through there. had a half of a giant plastic easter egg and the auger finally pierced right through the middle and pulled out. better solution than trying to push it through.
Excellent vid Mr. Hardware. Thanks
"Its not the push its the pull" thank you for teaching me something new! I saved my jobs bathroom 😆
Hi,
If you can help me.My shower room water drain is clogged and tried DRAINO+vacummed but not fixed.I dont see any hair or dirt in line while going to use snake.what could be the problem....
Thanks
sp
cuz I have to, and I have a sink and soap nearby.
A spoon is going to be a toughie, possibly the closet auger will hook it and you'll get lucky. I would anticipate pulling the toilet and turning it upside down and hoping to push the spoon out with an auger.
Blair Gilbert I and my Father in Law had to pull a toilet. Anyone for kids toys? We replaced the seal and all was well. I was surprised at how many toys we found! Well, love our kids! Next was a fetish. using tons of toilet paper! My wife said.show him how to clean himself! She was always unplugging the toilet! When we think back we do have to laugh and it is all in family!
Blair Gilbert... this is paramount and NOW! I had a bad contractor for a new home. The septic was already here and was a two stage! However, the contractor took the basement soil and dumped it on the seepage bed and over the tank. The septic worked fine for 7 years and finally, after a big freeze of up to a minus 20, it no longer worked. Since it was winter and no access to the outside pluming, I could do nothing. The toilet is full. I finally am using a bucket for solids. What is the first step in figuring this out. I was told the septic tank has a lever which was probably changed during the work for the new home! Would it be the tank is full or is it bad plumbing. I had a plumber look at the system for other reasons and he left and would not return my calls! Well, it is a manufactured home and he used other than licensed! Any ideas with the first most probable first? Thanks!
My plunger didn't work still after three days. I didn't know what to do. I forgot I bought a snake 25 years ago but never used it. I didn't even think about it until I say this. Thanks Mister Hardware!
Mr. Hardware saved the day! Best plumber ever!
Thank you for reminding me that it’s the pull, not the push👍🏻👍🏻
Brilliant, thanks for sharing!
thanks for a great video and great tips.
Thank you so much!!!!! :) Just told hubby I fixed the toilet!!!!! lol
Hey must have been a happy hub .
Thank you Mr. Hardware!
thank you very much Mr. Hardware!!!!
Thank you. I used your method and it worked.
THanks for posting this sir, it worked!
Awesome video! Thank you.
So how did u take the pencil out? I think my son flushed a pen would that cable thing help?
had a pen stuck in my toilet and I used your method 😊 it really worked Thank You.....
Omg! I was trying everything like putting soap or hot water in and it just didn't work. But your "its not the push, its the pull" trick worked!!!!😂😂😂
Awsome video Realy good tips and advise
good video, well done, easy to understand. thank you
thanks a lot bro..you are a saviour
This was ridiculously helpful. I'm going to try these things tomorrow... Unless I hit the Powerball Lol!
Not the push, it's the pull!! The key words - it worked. Flowing freely!
I laugh every time someone says that, thanks Blair Too bad you had to find it out here.
Hahaha.....LOL. Thank you! Before I pulled up your video, I used a snake. And not having used one before, the snake wouldn't go in. I thought I had the wrong type or the toilet itself wouldn't allow it and gave up. Then I pulled up your video. You showed and explained how a snake works its way through and the reason for why it is bent at the beginning. So I followed your instructions. OMG ! I was so happy that the snake went completely through. I UNCLOGGED THE TOILET! Thank you Blair! Life saver!
Mr. Gilbert. I've spent the last 5 hours looking at different websites and youtube videos (even your low flush one) and trying all sorts of things, rotating with plunging, to bring flush pressure back up.
Our 10-year old clogged it (which makes me laugh as hard as can be, when you mention "your 10-year old" at the front of this video... Anyway, I was trying hot water and dish soap, CLR to clear the jets, vinegar or bleach down the overflow tube, coat hanger, etc...
After watching this video on "it's the PULL, not the push." I fixed it in 45 seconds.
I'm a fan for life, and if I lived in or near Michigan, would be a customer for life. Nowhere else, in my research, did I see anyone mention something as simple as "push, then PULL."
Thanks for putting your videos up.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Blair. Phil Orsi taught me that! RIP Phil
Well Phil Orsi has a good legacy in you. I'll pass that teaching along to anyone who needs the help!
A Very Merry Unbirthday To You, Mr. Blair Gilbert.
I soooo much thank you for this video. My sister dropped a computer tablet stylus and then flushed it. It stopped up the tissue but not water only. We did not have a closet auger but we had a bendable long dryer brush. It seems to have done the trick. If not we will go buy a closet auger or toliet snake and try that.
My mother wants us to try and put in a new toilet kit (she's been wanting to do this for over a year now). I would rather not as I'm not good with DIY projects. If those two fixes above don't work I guess I will be putting in a new toilet.
Anyway, thank you for your time, you knowledge and you video.
If you do install a new toilet I recommend you look at comfort height toilets. Much easier to use as we get older.
very helpful!!
my auger will quit spinning ( and get real tight ) when spinning clockwise but not counterclockwise. It will spin freely when turning counterclockwise and all the way in.I feel like that means that the pointy little wire is grabbing something like a rag but I KNOW there is no rag down there. I am the only one who has been in this house LONG before and AFTER I started having toilet drain problems. Any suggestions ?
Great tips. Thank you. Peace.
Wow very nice job of describing!😃
A floating bottle cap or Army man, LMAO! Good video!
Nice straightforward uncluttered video. Did know about the plunger shape and the pulling technique but not about getting the air out. Every little bit helps! Persons unnamed in my household tried to flush food that floated and got caught in the upper part- took a while to find it... Hot tip: use toilet for intended purpose only and leave blasted lid down!
Awesome !!! Thank you!!!
Good job!
Hi Blair I'm having an issue with my toilet and not exactly sure what it could be. The water in the bowl keeps going down gradually. I can flush the toilet and it bubble up and I might have to push the handle down again to get it to flush correctly. It will work, but after water fill the bowl back up normal place, if you come back in about 20 minutes or so the water level in the bowl will be almost gone. The back of tank on the back of the toilet is not running trying to fill the tank up. The water is at the right level in the tank. I don't know what to do. How can i get the water level in the toilet bowl to stay at normal level??? Any help is much appreciated!!
Hi I'm looking for a toilet seat similar to the one in the picture can you tell me where I can find one please? Thanks
who is in bathroom watching this
You're awesome sir ! 👍😊
Thank you!

Great stuff.
Great video, thank you.
I like to see people win.
You sir, are a god damn hero!!!
Thanks for the info..
have a slow draining toilet think a plastic egg with stain removers in was flushed what would be the best way to get this item out?
ive got to get one of those plungers, mines terrible. got a large toy car clogging ours right now. the toy is too big and wont let (Clog Dogger?) get past , just pushing it farther in even if I turn it.
thank u sooo much. it worked
You are the man, Mr. Hardware! Thanks much! PS-I hope you washed your hands before you made that sushi for dinner. :-)
Worked. Thanks.
