    Wow, this brings back a lot of memories! My first real mtb was a 1999 GF Kaitai that had a bright yellow paintjob similar to you're Piranha. It was a great bike until it was stolen. When I was younger I thought the GF Joshua and its big brother the Level Betty were the coolest bikes I had ever seen. Thanks for sharing.

    Wow - I have that Klein - though mine is much modified with a new drivetrain, fork, and shock.

      I swapped the Manitou Spyder-R for a Manitou Six Deluxe. The bike handled a lot better with more usable travel up front. The main issue I had with the Mantra was that hard braking (front and rear together) would lock out the suspension. Too much front brake, and you're OTB. No problem relying only on the rear brake while off the saddle on steep and rough trails.

  • @juanmanuelvazquezrosales3840

    For one moment I thought that yellow Gary Fisher was a Kaitai... I used to have one which I raced back in the nineties... Congrats great collection!

    I used to be into the old school bmx freestyle bike scene but now the prices are insane. I'm getting more into MBs just because it's a hobby I can still afford.

    That blackmountain is awesome. It reminds me of the old Canadian TECH bikes. but it looks a lot lighter frame wise

    • @jonmopar7917
      @jonmopar7917  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! It is a lot lighter. That Black Mountain weighs about 23lbs, so it’s about 10lbs lighter than a department store bike.

      @thinkpadBentnoseTheBlind Před 2 lety

      @@jonmopar7917 thank you for the reply. Your black mountain does look light. The Tech bikes I referred to were not dept store ones but made in and only sold in Ottowa Canada. I know as I have one . It was the geometry and tube size that made me think they were similar though. My Tech is 1 and 1/4 inch head tube . I also have the original fork and stem. Fork still has logo and original paint

    • @jonmopar7917
      @jonmopar7917  Před 2 lety +1

      Cool info! I wonder if they were made by another company and rebranded? My “Millennium” was sold in a dept store, but made by Raleigh Canada, and is identical to a Raleigh Inferno I had that came from a bike shop.

    • @thinkpadBentnoseTheBlind
      @thinkpadBentnoseTheBlind Před rokem +1

      @@jonmopar7917 no, Tech or TechNova bikes were made in house by Cycle Tech Canada. 4130 tange tubing. 1980's late. I recall a drug store shelf brand called Teck made by whomever makes those cheap Infinity bikes for costco. Very different frames

    I'm drooling, so impressive. Hey I had a question about that cranberry Hardrock you own... I just picked one up but have never seen another one with the same font. Where did you get yours from? Does it identify as a 1993?

    Love that OCLV Trek. Where do you find bikes like that? I got a '00 8500 and it has the same seat post and stem along with a matching Graphite Series crank set. Actually the stem looks identical except mine might be a tad shorter and has a different label on the side of it. They match up pretty well aesthetically with the XTR stuff from that time.

      Thanks! That Trek 9.9 is a rare gem. The whole competition line (8000 series) were great bikes! Basically just aluminum versions of the carbon bikes. I was always into biking, and hung around other people that used to race and collect since I was a kid. They taught me a lot, and when they were ready to sell, I made them an offer. I’ve also found great bikes online at at flea markets. I’ve even posted want ads. Always keep your eyes open. Half of the fun is in finding the next one!!

      Thanks! I’m happy with how the bike turned out too! I painted it years ago but it still looks sharp. For rims, it had Bontrager Race Lites originally, but now has AlexRims Ace17 in the rear, and a Sun Rhyno Lite in the front. They work well. Amazing bikes
