If there's one brand nobody expected to make high-end football boots, its Skechers! But they've done it, while also signing away Harry Kane from Nike! However, that's not the only thing they've taken from them!
In today's video we take a closer look at the new Skechers SKX_01 in both the mid and low cut variations. Their new $220 football boots, put together by several ex-Nike employees, that perhaps unsurprisingly take heavy inspiration from Nike's now discontinued Phantom GT series! There's no doubt that they definitely copied the concept, but what if I told you they actually made them better! We discuss what the SKX_01 is all about, how they compare to the Phantom GT and GT2 Elites from Nike, and whether or not you should be considering Skechers football boots over the more popular alternatives. Would you try Skechers football boots at $200+?

When I hear "SKX" I think Seiko watches every time
I think sex
Same lol i have skx 013

I still remember Josh reviewing those old Skechers boots from like 4-5 years ago
Realistically they needed to lower the price tag to compete or make people willing to buy a pair. A $150 price would've been more inviting to give it a try.
Infarct I just purchased due to curiosity at ridiculous 102€ price on internet ( the first blu color ). If they lunched at 140€ like the pro model of adidas and Nike, instead cut half the price after 4 months 😂 and the black color is 160€ now but I don’t care about color and I bought the cheapest one just for try them out
Prob gon wait till they go on sale
To be fair, they do look nice and Sketchers are renowned for being comfy, its just the Sketchers logo part that gets me, maybe if they cop a few more big names they may start being more common and accepted
Casually yeah they do a lot of ripping off, but it seems like they do try with their performance lines, especially with running where they have proprietary tech
Interesting. The GT2 always worked very well for me.
I literally don’t know how these boots are a “copy” since EVERY football boot rn it’s knitted and gets grip from a sintetic layer over it, add some lines over it to get the grippy sensation and that’s it. The differences are the brand and that’s it. Every damn football boot feels the same. I miss the full sintetic upper days with Kanga-Lite, Teijin, Nike Skin, Sprintskin, etc
Its fair that all the manufacturers use similar concepts, which is expected and fine. And it's also fair to say that the world might be starting to run out of new ideas. But I for one am calling out the difference between that and straight up copy.
These boots look like what a modern version of the R9 og blue and silver vapors would be. I honestly like them but obviously won’t be buys ng since they are the same price of name brand models. I’m at that age where takedown models are my best friend now. Great looking boot for Sketchers to be fair tho 🤷🏼♂️
There is no way people are going to buy $220 Skechers cleats. At that price, they have to be BETTER than the competition. Sorry, that's just the harsh reality.
Why would they have to be better? 220 is still cheaper than the top level mercurials, superflys, phantoms, predators, crazyfast, futures, furon, etc. if theyre just as good and cheaper than the competition, whats the issue?
@@raysont8564furons are cheaper now, about 150
@@raysont8564the issue many people have is that they’re from Skechers a brand that isn’t known for coming up with its own idea and a being a brand that isn’t reputable yet In the football boots market. For that 220 asking price, you’re better off getting stuffs from brands that have proven in the football boots market for years.
I’m for sure not buying Sketchers but isn’t this video literally saying they are better than the competition, or more specifically the boot they were designed after.
Why would you buy these unless you’re glued to wanting to wear the same boots that Kane does? The price point for an unproven brand’s first go at a boot, is just silly.
On average how is shipping to Australia if i were to buy football boots from your website
Hey Josh would you recommend the Select numero 10 ball or the Nike club elite ball. The prices are very similar so price doesn’t matter. Could you please tell me which one’s better as I am looking to get one. -❤from Boston
Número 10 for sure. Nike ball quality control and air retention is sub par
If and when they go heavily discounted, I’d consider them. I don’t doubt they are some great boots, just not worth their asking price, not yet at least, because of the negativity connected with Skechers as a brand. 🙂
Futbol emotion European Spanish store just purchased the first blu color at ridiculous 102€ price
@@michaelpagliano5519 Now we’re talking! 🔥
Can you do like mercurial and TIEMPO lots of people changing from merc to temp
I hear the soles separate from the upper, do you find that to be the case?
From who, Jay-mike? lol
@@tracker4854 yeah, I believe so
Well, what a surprise
If Sketchers comes out w a high quality calf skin leather + Tiempo Legend 5 tooling boot we got a winner
Where can I get that Pure Tshirt
When i see Sketchers, i think my dad would like those. No way he'd pay 200 quid
"Check out our new boots, It's called the Copa Pu- I mean.. the sdp_69."
when are they bringing carbon fiber soleplates back smh
I need ten years of trust building with original design concepts. Hiring away a competitor's design team to create essentially the same thing they did before does not count. With this boot, the ten year timer has not started yet.
Nobody cares
@@figliodihades I care. I feel like you care too. *hugz
Hasn’t Harry Kane just been seen with really bad blisters from these boots?
Damn, really? Is it during trading?
@@caoweiye1372 was in the news here all yesterday.
Boot of the year?
I don't see a phantom copy in these, pretty standard looks and technology these days
I think they are fire 🔥 tho
Give a the Nike Phantom TC #techcraftpack over them sued brand 😂
What do you think of the phantom gx react turf?
They really said "Anything you can do I can do better"
OK
First?
First time being first.
First
Those look like crastic plap.
So like Adidas and Nike boots then.
You mean like any other modern boot?
While having Nike people does help along with Harry Kane as their sponsored athlete but 225 bucks for a pair of football boots by a brand that has history of copying other brands and not even known in the football boots world is a tough call. Two years ago I would have an issue with NB charging $200 or more on the Furon V6+ but they were capable and as time goes NB were able to follow that up with a far better product in the V7+. Can applaud Sketchers for at least getting it right but that price tag is a huge bummer
They are just copyists to me they have no value
I absolutely love the GT series. Seeing how many pros have stuck with them instead of moving on to the GX I feel vindicated in my choice. You sir, are a GT hater
I bought GX, wore them for about 6 games and 6 kickarounds. Went back to my GT2s! I prefer the stiffer plate and I like the touch ok gt’s. GX felt almost too sticky and ball gets stuck when dribbling and I think it’s soleplate is too flimsy over the course of a game
Also I wouldn’t be surprised if some pros are using custom GX with the GT soleplate or something like that
Not a fan of how they look at all
I understand the reasoning for it, but wow this video definitely sounded wayyy more like a sponsored by Sketchers video than your other reviews you have done. And really no problem in it generally cause people do it all the time. But the only problem I had was you saying that Nike “stole” ideas from Mercurial line to incorporate into their GT line. it’s their IP, they can do whatever they want within their IP. Sketchers clearly ripping off old Nike is stealing..unless Sketchers has been secretly bought by Nike..anyway if people like them, they should get it! Wish they decided to make it cheap like the Shaqs or Marbury’s
I think they’re solid boots. I don’t like what Skechers have generally done over the years. I think these have a lot of elements in common with a discontinued Nike model. I think Nike is responsible for a lot of trends within the football boot industry. Making something similar because it’s popular isn’t necessarily a “rip-off” and is extremely common within the football boots industry. Is every mid-cut boot since the Magista Obra a copy of Nike? Like I said in this video, I don’t love that their starting off their entry into high-end football boots with something clearly Nike inspired, by former Nike employees, but as I do with every boot, I share an honest and objective review. These are solid football boots, regardless of everything else 🤷♂️
Nobody is going to show up at the pitch wearing Skechers….unless they want to relentlessly be made fun of by their mates.
