2017 Jeep Wrangler JK Oil Change in 4K

  • The Jeep Wrangler JK is by far the easiest oil change I have ever done on a vehicle, including our past Jeeps. The oil filter is located on top of the engine. Removing it can be done a lot easier then the oil filters mounted underneath the engine.

    Hands-down this is the best oil change video for the JK. No nonsense, no screwing around trying to figure out what you’re doing, just a straightforward and great job. Thanks! This is my go-to video every time I change my JK’s oil just to make sure I don’t skip a step. 👍🏼

    While having a bouncier and noisier ride than other vehicles the Jeep Wrangler does have a lot going for it in terms of accessibility for regular maintenance and interior roominess. And they are still available with manual transmission, a major plus in my book, and they are fun to drive. They are the original off-road SUV since 1941 and still going strong!

    Who'd thumbs down a video like this? People, I tell you. One wonders sometimes. Thanks for this video. I think I can pull this off even though I don't have a garage as long as I make sure I don't drop engine oil in my assigned parking space

    I use a large piece of cardboard (that's codboard for you) to protect my garage floor during oil changes. Whenever I get something that comes in a large codboard box (ie: refrigerator) I cut the box up and save the large pieces for just such an occasion.

    This is by far the BEST oil change video on uTube...hands down for a Jeep JK!! The oil change is so similar to my BMW (due to oil filter type)...that most people do not realize to keep the oil plug off and uninstalled from the pan until the oil filter portion has been complete. Absolutely correct with adding oil to the o-rings!! The only difference (...just a preference starting from top down. I recommend...is to remove the oil filter first. Then remove the oil pan plug. Then, install the new oil filter. Finishing with installing the oil pan plug. Just changing your order a little, but otherwise PERFECT!! GREAT job!! Merci

    Just had the dealer change our oil and rotate the tires. We have 3 more freebies left. After that, I will install a Fumoto valve and do them myself. New Pig sells an oil absorbent mat called Pig Mat. I just got a roll of it. We sell TONS of it to the oil and gas people. Keep the great videos coming!

    Good and informative video however there is a reason why the Fram filter is smaller, its because they have to make it different in someway to circumvent trade mark and patent laws. Canister filters are critical that they are the right size. I would only use original equipment filters.

      @WeRmudfun  Před 4 lety

    Just an additional warning the torque on the oil filter cap is extremely important. That's why most Jeep owners do it themselves and not the minimum wage high school kid at the Jippy Quik Oil Change and Dog Wash. If you over torque the cap it can crack and that is a $300 part and will require the top half of the engine to come off to replace. Great video by the way. None of the "apologize for holding the camera in one hand" shaking blurry nausea. Well done.

    I just bought a new 17 leftover Rubicon Recon a few days ago with 4 free oil changes I'm surprised they told me 4months 4000 miles I'm old school with 3000 miles I like that the filter canister is on top vs my Rav4 on the bottom its always have oil left in it even with the provided drag spout with new filter is the filter upside down cleaner hopefully nothing worse than smelly burning oil on a hot engine

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 6 lety +2

      Congrats on the Rubi! They told us the same thing about the free oil changes, we chose to not take them up on their freebies. I find the filter setup up cleaner and easier to change.

  • @coopdeville1172
    @coopdeville1172 Před 6 lety

    If you are the first owner, prior to removing the oil filter cap, I use a small artist paint brush with a small touch of white paint and mark where the oil filter cap meets the filter housing ... that way i'm assured that I replace the cap to the original torqued position without using a torque wrench.... works for me !!

    5:00 a tip ive learned over the years is that in order to avoid that 'glub glub glub' from the bottle, you should pour it upside down with the handle facing the funnel instead of the opening for the can. only downside is it might be a little higher than normal

    Change the oil in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler Islander once a year or at 10-15k miles whichever comes first. I usually have 8500-10,000 miles in a year. I use Amsoil Signature Series 5W30 and their Ea15k51 oil filter. I bought It wanting an easier vehicle that I could work on.

    Hadn't done one on our Jeep yet and just assumed the oil filter is underneath. Glad to see it's on top like a Subaru. I do feel an oil change every 3000 is a waste of time and mostly money. There's no reason any vehicle won't go 5000 now, especially if when it even states that in the owners manual..... but whatever.

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 2 lety

      We like the filter on the top of the Jeep too. I was brought up old school on fluid changes. The 3000 mile change was mainly because the Jeep was brand new and we were going on a long trip. I have since FINALLY changed my ways and switched to full synthetic oil and go a lot longer between changes. 😀

      No, the dealership didn't screwup an oil change, it was the delivery of the Wrangler to us where they went above and below to be the worst dealer Jeep has ever seen! We went straight to Chrysler about it, the General Manager went out of his way to correct the issue, but we still would never let them touch any vehicle we own. The Old Man EMU was the lift we went with last time and will look at again when the time comes. Send us pictures when you get it done, so we can see how it looks. @@WeRmudfun it did. I didn't know about the O-ring til I watched your video. The K & N filter was only a couple bucks more so I bought that. I usually run Mobil 1 and had to buy Pennzoil for the Wrangler. I installed one of those Ezoil drain valves so I should be able to do the next oil change in 10 minutes. Hey guys time to change the oil on the 2017 wrangler...btw no torque specs in the manual but my real question is whether to use conventional oil or the synthetic oil. what is the Quaker state advanced formula doesn't seem to say...thanks for any input...hope you guys are doing ok:)

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 3 lety

      We are doing fine, currently in PA. Hope you ae doing OK too. :)
      Really depends on how often you intend to change the oil. The only things I ever put full synthetic oil in was our Harley Davidsons. Anything that meets Chryslers requirements is what we would use for the Jeep. We change the oil between 3-5K miles.
