Within the past couple of years, the anime community has been receiving some really good adaptations of certain manga series. Since the bulk of these adaptations have been rooted in a shonen demographic, a good majority of these series are going to contain a few common tropes found in many shonen titles as early as the original Dragon Ball.

Honestly the trope I hate the most is the character who has like, the worst qualities / no personality/ yet still manage to still have friends, yes I will put your yanderes' and those types of people into this as well if I have to. I dislike characters who just act so terrible, and yet everyone around them acts like this is fine. I am also concerned that its played off as jokes depending on who/what/where its happening, and it really makes me worry about some mental states.

To be fair, every friend group has that one person no one likes...if you cant think of one in your group i got bad news for you.
Honestly the big issue with the protag vs antag trope is when the story forces the MC to go up against the arc villain and sideline the character who the story is focusing on atm and is a better foil for the villain.
No hate to Gear 4 but I'm still salty about Doffy tanking all the creative and poweful abilities Law threw at him up until the ORGAN TEARING attack Gamma knife, then law proceeds to become a spectator in his own arc as Luffy beats Doffy with a big punch.
Like Oda wrote the best interconnected backstory with Law and Doflamingo and hyped them up since Punk Hazard, but that all goes out the window cuz Law isn't the one the series is following.

No offense, but you didn't properly follow the story. Law never planned to beat Doflamingo himself. His whole plan was to let Kaido do it, until Luffy decided he was gonna do it himself. Even Kyros was more motivated than him to do that. Plus if Law beat Doflamingo, the whole Dressrosa cast would be the one "sidelined" in their own arc. Because Law had no connection to them.
If it makes you feel better, I firmly believe Luffy would have lost without Law's Gamma Knife. So it's still a team effort.
@@jinkun2629 the whole "let Kaido handle Doffy" plan came crashing the moment the birdcage came down on Dressrosa. At that point it became on-sight for Law as well. As for the side cast, the only one with an actual strong connection to Doffy to defeat him is King Riku and Kyros, both of whom are too weak to even entertain such an idea.
Ik the Gamma knife did leave a mark on Doffy, but it destroys the body from the inside, its crazy how Oda pulled that "stay alive and conscious long enough to stitch my body up" bs so that Doffy could last another 20 episodes and Luffy wouldn't be overshadowed.
@@rubixmaster7532 What you said about Riku and Kyros applies to Law too. Otherwise he would have dealt with Doffy on his own since the start. The whole series is built on the fact that Luffy wouldn't even need to get involved if the oppressed were strong enough to free themselves. Otherwise you could use the same arguments for Yamato and the Scabbards against Kaido.
Also, if Corazon can stay alive long enough for Law to escape after he got shot like twenty times, what Doffy did was nothing special. Humans in One Piece are built different. That's one of the most consistent things about the series. The one death that counters that is Kuina, but she died in like chapter 5 so I can let it slide.

Yamato makes more sense since she's just Kaido lite.
The scabbards is another one I dislike, they were done even worse than Law in that they weren't even allowed to give Kaido any lasting, relevant injuries. Ashura Zoro literally outperformed them in afew seconds.
Was Corazon receiving further attacks from Doffy after the bullets tho? Humans not dying isn't even a genuine point Oda makes, it happens when he drags out moments longer than they need to be or is too soft and fakes out deaths.
Let's not forget Asura Doji and Pedro died to regular ass bombs, these are characters who take on high ranking officers in a Yonko crew.
It’s funny enough because I used to hate the Power of Friendship trope due to being exposed to Fairy Tail who used that trope but when I rewatched Yu Yu Hakusho I loved the friendship trope, that made me realize that this trope isn’t all that bad it just has it hits and misses and it just happens I watched series before that wrote the trope in a missed way.

i mean the part where you ask about the power of friendship and why can’t they just use the power from the beginning and not wait until it’s an ass pull, you use that panel of luffy saying that he has his friends.
that’s a panel from when luffy has defeated and last everything. the straw hats were seperated, he had lost at marineford and got a hole in his chest, and his brother died. he says that before admitting that he needs to train before meeting them again. he says he has his friends and cries because he know he won’t be saying then for another two more years as he commits himself to becoming stronger, as he felt so ashamed.
so it was a pretty bad example to show there. wasn’t really “the power of friendship”.

Most JJK characters do nothing as well. Maki is the most active female. The rest either die or do nothing as much as Naruto ones

Kishimoto should've made female shinobi rare. At least one per village. Most of the women of the Leaf were useless.
Yeah the fact that he made so many and made them all useless was the problem. If there were fewer then it wouldn’t have been as big of a problem in the series.
@@whowhy7554 The other problem is that some of the shinobi had the same skills as the kunoichi (except Ino) but better. Tenten is a weapon expert. Meanwhile, Itachi and Sasuke pull off insane trick shots, alone or with teamwork. A tomboy and/or a femme fatal in every other village would've been enough.
I don't like wasteful writing. Sakura's physical capabilities could have been highlit as useful self-defense CC so she can stay safe while expending little chakra so she can keep healing while also providing SOME protection to her patients if worse comes to worst. All you'd have needed for that is show a swarm of mooks diving her being all "wooooah the medic, shoot her!", she goes and punches the ground knocking them all in a bunch and then someone of the offensive fighters can clean with a single big attack. There. Purpose established. Hell, have her chuck bits of ground at the big bad which while not potentially dangerous can impair their vision.
Idk, it's just...even my suggestion is only really paying lip service, but it's better than the nothing the show seems to have going on.
Also yes, I'm aware even at best naruto is a world where guns usage is of ambiguous amplitude, but I was referencing the "shoot the medic first" trope. No points for guessing what it's about.

fr like have seen how they draw teenage girls and let me tell you it's not realistic I know it's anime but come on now
I don’t typically notice the loli trope, but it’s still ridiculous. I get that they aren’t supposed to age because they’re immortal or some crap, but they should at least look like an adult, not a second grader.
for the dragons i think it makes sense because the displaced nature of dragons in the real world- and theyre all from the chaos faction one that actually takes alot of time to expound on how they ended up where theyre at- so even if its uncomfy kannas entire focus is her growing up and most of the scenes we see her in are just;cute. the found family aspect pushes over some of the fan service and its light tone helps you forgive any discomfort. in the same way you put aside your disgust while watching a horror film or a drama with flawed people. cept with the opposite energy, its a nice hearted variant. for alot of other fantasy isekai though that back ground and diversity of lens is just not there like any other trope there implementation to consider- dragon maid makes it make sense- kanna acts like a young kid who just happens to be 1000 some odd years old. she doesnt get other humans and mimics them to fit in. even when the intrusive fanservice does get to her- its framed as her misinterpreting a friends infatuation. more grace and understandable then the more degenerate uncaring approach 90% of fan service products even attempt. i can bare pandering to get to the wholesome underbelly, cause it doesnt really treat any of its characters like purely an object. one of my favorite episodes is just them shopping for school supplies- brought back memories of me doing the same thing with my mom, and its those moments fans pull alot of value outa.
@@36incI don’t know much about the story of Dragon maid, but you should see some of the other stuff he’s written. Sometimes the child-like appearance ain’t so poetic
My least favorite trope has gotta be the trope trope, where they have tropes in an anime.

One anime trope I grew to dislike is that some underage female characters are oversexualized for the sake of fanservice. I don't mind them having huge melons, but giving them eye-candy designs as well just for the sake of it rub me off the wrong way. Yoko from Gurenn lagann is most guilty of this. She is 14 at the start of the show ffs like...no. I didn't mind it when I was younger, but right now it comes off as wrong for me. Say all you want about JoJo teens not matching their age, but at least they aren't oversexualized and it kinda makes sense that they're muscular since they're fighters.
Let's not forget the vegeta treatment

I disagree with you on the first trope. Mainly cause you used one piece as an example. In one piece Luffy has said countless times that achieving his goal is worthless if he can’t have his friends there by his side. One piece is all about willpower, with the main power system being based off of willpower. When Luffy knows that his friends are relying on him, his willpower is stronger. This isn’t a bs “power of friendship” power boost, this is literally something that happens in real life💀 I think the same should go for any other anime as long as they aren’t abusing the friendship boost. I think One Piece specifically should get a pass on this because Luffy literally can’t achieve his goal without his friends, and Luffy wouldn’t be Luffy if he didn’t have his friends by his side.

@@nmk1ng Yeah I gotta agree. I can't remember a time where Luffy has remembered he has friends and then receives a power boost. The panel you showed of him remembering his friends is when he (spoilers)
is trying to snap out of a depression. He was on the borderline of killing himself from his injuries after a traumatic event but is stopped when an ally asks him what he still has, and Luffy remembers he has his crew.

@@nmk1ng No worries, I tried keeping it as spoiler free as possible while still getting my point across. He fights for his friends since they are basically his family, but his powerups are mainly techniques he designed on his own or gained through training (1 exception but that's another spoiler).

ima be a contrarian- i like the friendship is power trope- always will. i dont let bad implementation ruin other tropes- why should i cause when they make it a core element like kamen rider fourze or yugioh i think it gives alot of life to it. persona as a series is based on it too and theres soo much depth to how they explore it.
As a Persona player who’s recently had the time to delve back into the game, I must admit, it does have its power of friendship moments as well
JJK women are only seen as well written because the bar is lower than the south pole, lol. a different 2023 anime than Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 with great female characters, however, is Sousou no Frieren. the women in that story are super well done. the only one that's only okay is Fern, the rest rule. infact, this also goes for the male cast, they're all super well written, except for the okay Stark.

One of the worst tropes in anime and any media creation is the "commentator" trope. The best example are the spectators of races in Initial D or in shonen tournaments,even one of my favorite anime YYH lays in this category, however it was considerably reduced by Togashi in HxH during celestial colliseum and totally dissapear in Kurapika /Ubogin, Meruem/Netero (except for narrator, but its ok) or Hisoka vs Chrollo cause no other HxH character was analysing that battle more than the same fighter.
I'd much rather have a narrator than a character whose role is to just be the narrator. Really kills the immersion IMO. if I'm gonna have information spoonfed to me, then it shouldnt be a character inside the universe.

Aside of the tropes you mentioned I'd include the aloof and stupid main character, with luffy (and super goku) being the worst examples I can think of. I swear one piece as a story is carried by every character except the main one.

Basically the real issue is not the existence of a trope (except for lolis that can just be buried six feet under) but the execution as all stories have some kind of trope. Not gonna lie though I kinda have a soft spot of Fairy Tail up to a certain point but I won’t forgive Erza vs Jellal or Natsu & Gajeel vs the Twin Dragons just so Natsu can be the one to beat the big bad
