- Abandoned Toys R Us - Jackson, TN. Victim of the Chspter 7 bankruptcy in 2018, this store is one of hundreds across the country that sit vacant. The company is slowly turning around and is beginning to reopen a store here and there. Could this one see life again? Doubtful, but it's wishful thinking.

It lights up to say, “Y Us” (why us?!).
Haha
I think it's really a shame when a store closes down, and then stands empty for several years.
So many memories that have been created in that store, so much history behind it and just overall, its emptiness reflects a bleak time for the community.
However on the positive side, i get to experience some good YT content.
And im glad that there are yt like yourself that preseve some of the stores history.
By recording video and taking photos on the store.
The Toys R Us closes to me closed in July 2018 and became a Burlington store that opened in fall 2019.
Honestly i like seeing the abandoned stores. Not that im glad they closed, just so we can see and explore some history
The power is still on wow
I want Toys R Us to reopen
Duh. I live at jackson
It looks like my abandoned Toys "R" Us in Virginia. It was sandwiched between a Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Sadly it still couldn't survive.
Are you talking about the Midlothian turnpike one? I live right next to it and it looks just like this one! Good to see some Virginia faces!
That's one of my local Toys R Us's too!!!! It was a Spirit Halloween in 2018 right? If it was, I'm almost certain were talking about the same one.
@@pleasantness1704 That's the one. :)
@@hectortroy2524
Yep the one in this video looks just like that one. I used to go to the Midlothian one a lot as a kid and to the original location when it was near Cloverleaf.
Im about to be 37 and that is a key to my childhood. I miss T"R"U at least i can say im a true Toys "R" Us kid.
THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD TOYS R US!!!! Man I miss this place! I have been to no other Toys R Us except for this one!!!! It was pretty cool inside when it was open.
And I don't remember what building was there before American Freight. I think it was just abandoned. And the other place In between American Freight, and Toys R us was a place called Emma's I think. I don't know what the store was tho. (Salon, or clothing store I think. I never ever went inside.)
And the Toys R Us opens up as a Spirit Halloween during October. I don't know if it still does that cuz I only went in 2018 around the time when this Toys R Us first closed.
OMFG THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD TOYS R US TOO!!!
And sadly, it's being converted into an Autozone ;-;
AUTOZONE HAS CONSUMED OUR CHILDHOOD!😭
there was also a toys r us in greenville sc that was one of the stores to close, the closing date was 6/29/2018

That Geoffrey sign is so awesome!! Never saw a thing like this before!
This Toys R Us is now an Autozone. The mattress place next door was an Office Depot when it opened. The Toys R Us opened in the mid 1990s. I got a lot of N64 games there.
I've been through Bucksnort, I had to take a picture of the sign lol!
That is a funny name for a town.🤣
I live about 45 minuets east of here at a tiny map dot and stop sign on a black top. This was my childhood TRU. They had a sale here fall of 2020 for like a fundraiser and they used a lot of the old shelves and carts and they fired those registers up too. Talk about nostalgia. Just being back in that building....it was something. Too bad I did not have a camera with me at the time. I love this channel and I love it when channels like this film in my neck of the woods. I love watching you guys. Stay safe out there.
Thanks Wallie and Kayla for another awesome video. Looking forward to seeing the next one. Take care and stay awesome
I live in Jackson, I remeber going there years ago, like, back in 2016 or something and they still had the 1980s-1990s, there are rumors around my neighborhood that in night people creep in the back of the store with a scarecrow hat or something like that, that’s why I do not go near.
Ahhh this is so tragic. This was the happiest place on earth when I was a kid. I had to go to the Jackson hospital a lot and this was always the highlight. I'm glad one of my last visits was picking up my Nintendo switch. It's a sort of existential dread whenever I realize I can never go back, but such is life itself
Damn, that's retro signage, I haven't seen signage like that since about 1993.
It’s amazing that it still has the original signage from the early 90’s, sadly though when I was a kid I’ve rarely been to a Toys “R” Us, me and my parents we’ve mostly shop at K•B Toys way back when they were operating.
Thanks for sharing that Toy R Us building it was awesome :D
Very cool video. Too bad about toys r us. I also want to thank you for being an inspiration to me. I started my channel 2 years ago and hit 1000 and am monetized right now. You and other explorers inspire me to keep doing what I'm doing. Thank you for the Great work.
01/2023 update: As of several months ago (Summer 2022), the AutoZone that was across the street has moved into the former Toys R Us. The American Freight used to be an Office Depot, and the store in between used to be Ima's Fashions (women's clothing store of some sort). Source: older Google Street views + yours truly living in Jackson.
As a truck driver with 2 and a half million miles, I been everywhere and from time to time I get surprised by things I see. I saw a Montgomery Ward's sign in a small town in New Mexico. I know they went out of business a long time ago.
Awesome!!
Who would have thought that you saw everyones favorite Toy Store!
Thats so cool!! I know there is a Toys R Us in New Jersey that quite new! So who knows if they are slowing coming back.
Thanks for sharing!
So amazing... The signage is so great.. Thanks for a great video
Last year I had finally got a hold of a TOYS "R" US truck in the bigger scale which Ertl Corporation made at the time, probably the 70's or 80's & also a Sears truck in the aqua blue/turquoise color. After getting those I'm finally satisfied..lol. Thank you for sharing Wallie and Kayla! 👍🙂
It looks awesome at night thank you for making these videos for us
Another great masterpiece video my friends thank you! In my eyes with the closing of toys r us Kmart Payless shoe stores it's like America is dying and it's sad. In my other life as a truck driver I spent many times in bucksnort Tennessee Hickman county. A nice little Hamlet that time has forgotten the nicest people though a very fine community hope you got to see Gatlinburg it's also very nice. Safe travels to you and Kayla and I look forward to another one of your Blockbuster videos!
I miss toys r us. Brought back great childhood memories with my mom. Thank you for sharing
2:18 it almost appears that the lit up letters ask the question, "Why us?"
Y US ^
Miss those so much, great find sir and ty for sharing.
Awesome video as always! I never seen a Jeffery logo like that before, great find! Funny that the quotation marks still illuminates.
I love the TRU locations with this type of exterior and the Geoffrey sign, very nice looking!
I grew up going here before it closed down. A couple Halloween’s ago, a Spirit Halloween store set up seasonal shop inside the abandoned Toys R Us! It was really crazy going inside and buying a Halloween costume from the same place I got my first GameCube when I was a kid. It looked like a construction site in there behind the curtains that had been sectioned off for the Spirit store.
The Toy's R Us where l live(NY) has become a Burlington Coat Factory store!
My local store (Merrillville, IN) is being reconfigured into a Burlington Coat Factory too! Lol
Good video Wallieb26. Miss the 90s
Great opening shot of an iconic logo. Be safe, and I agree with angel dojc about going back in time to the great days of american retail where not only products bought but memories made.
The American Freight store was originally an Office Depot and the space in between was originally a women's clothing store that moved, and then it was a power sports store, which just recently closed.
Awesome looking Toys R Us! Great vid man!
i’m just now finding this but…. i live in jackson, TN and i used to shop there as a kid. it closed down a couple years ago and was used as a pop up halloween store last halloween. when i went into the halloween store, all of the interior design from the Toys R Us was still the same. it’s in great condition for the most part. I love Jackson and there’s so many more cool abandoned buildings like that around town. thanks for the video!
Yea, Halloween city. They eventually left like spirit Halloween ( there is a spirt Halloween in Jackson right now, it’s just around target)
Nice looking Toys R Us! Reminds me of the one in Dayton, and that American Freight was a former Office Depot before
It was a nice looking Toys R Us...
It was my childhood store...
Went there lots of times as a toddler ;-;
Now Autozone took it ALL away ; - ;
What do male deer when they have a sinus problem?
"BUCKSNORT"!
If you ever come back to Jackson TN you have got to stop by. Nerdvana! Its a beautiful retro game store! They also deal with MTG card games
Man I like that blue and yellow architecture.
Yes that's pretty creepy how the signs lits up. I like the Geoffrey sign, very cool! Never seen that before.
Facts 2024: The Abandond Toys R Us is now a Auto Zone here in Jackson, Tennessee
The autozone across the street bought the building for 1.2 million dollars and moved into it 2 months ago . Also American freight was a Office Depot 6 years ago
gonna go there this weekend and check it out :) i live 30 miles away the one in memphis was just like this one but its now an ollies
the vacant store is "southland outdoor powersports and equipment" they sold lawn tractors and atvs jet ski boats etc
The vacant building at 5:47 used to be home of the Southland Power Sports and Outdoor Equipment until they moved to a different location. It is still on Google Maps.
Great video Wally
Our Toys R US in Laredo TX is becoming a DDs Discount. But I also noticed in downtown Laredo TX there is a Woolworths logo in brass on the sidewalk. Woolworths was cool back in the day it was like a Pic N Save or a Newberrys.
I'm a truck driver with 2 and a half million miles and I still get surprised from time to time to see old signs like Montgomery Ward's in New Mexico in a small town.
They literally just knocked down the building in Waterford CT a few weeks ago. So so sad. I drove by and the trucks had knocked down 90% of the building. All that was remaining was the front entrance with the signage. Sooooo sad. Breaks my heart still. 💔
The night time view and the Jeffrey sign is awesome. Omg name of that town is to funny. Any drive thru skits while traveling this time? 😆
This one’s very similar to my local one in Layton, Utah, with the Geoffrey in a circle to the right of the logo. Unfortunately they removed Geoffrey when Spirit Halloween used the location last October.
Wallie the building to the left of Toys R Us if you pause the video at the right time (around 5:52) you can see a sign saying that southland power sports moved out of that building and into a "superstore" I don't remember if you said that in the video just wanted to point it out
Awesome night shots of the signs and Jeffrey!
Wow awesome video
the old Sears building is real close and the old K-mart isnt to far away ( its a U-Haul now ( theres plenty to see in Jackson,tn
If u ever come thru Jackson again I could show y’all cool shit man love these vids
The building in the middle was Southland Powersports, has lawn mowers four wheelers and Side by sides
Bucksnort sounds like a, funny name. The way Kayla said Bucksnort, that was funny as well. Well I just looked Bucksort a few minutes ago, it's over an a drive. From Nashville to Bucksnort. I Am a Native Tennessean, and still a Tennessee Resident. I have never heard of Bucksnort, until today.
Hey wallie so I just found out that American freight furniture- matteress it used to be a Office Depot.
Dang Wallie plz tell me you checked up the Old Hickory Mall to just up the road. That was my store when I was a kid!
I miss toys r us
Very interesting finds
This is my childhood toys are us it is now an auto zone I work in jackson and pass it sometimes
That was a beauty parlor before and a couple other places last time I lived there Jackson is nice and the toys r us I am shocked they left everything they cleaned most of them out
It's an Autozone now. American store was a Office Depot.
I live not far from here. I think I saw you when I was running errands!!
Well at least your car lol
Wallie, next time you and Kayla, (if you are able to), come back to Jackson, TN. - you have to eat at The Old Country Store! They have crackling corn bread, that is out of this world - and a huge buffet that will cause you to pop a gut if you decide to take full advantage of it. I live in Clarksville, Tennessee. and have been driving down there to Jackson my whole life every once in a while just to eat there. The place inside resembles a Cracker Barrel almost exactly, but it also has its own retro ice cream soda shop inside (or it still did the last time my family and I ate there.)
3:27 true, that. The Sears outlet near me converted into an American Freight. Funny fact: the Sears Outlet closed then reopened then rebranded to American Freight.
Awesome find❤
Yes jackson had a lot of cool stores that closed. Kmart,Service Merchandise.Sears closed in the mall as well.
And Macy's, don't forget them!😉
Cool vidow clip of Toys “R”” Us..I liked the night clip..I thought it was scary looking.
We have an abandoned Toys R Us in Johnson City Tennessee, it still has all of the signage.
That store in the middle was “Southland Power Sports” they sold lawn mowers, 4 wheelers, gators etc
The building next to it was an office max. Or Office Depot. One of the two. I grew up going to this toys r us
Old toys r us sad to see them go
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that town's name was funny. 😂
Live the video wallie and kayla I Never seen the toy us with a geffery logo before the toy us up in BUFFALO did not have the logo on the store
The nearby Auto Zone moved into this space a few months back.
I love how the lighted letters say "Y US"
The sandwiched building, if you read the sign, was a Southland Power Sports.
THIS IS OUR TOYS R US!!!! Honestly I never really went into this store
Man iam from Jackson to
You sir, MISSED OUT...
Went to that very location countless times as a toddler in the early 2000s...
We used to have a toys r us around media PA now it’s an Ollie’s discount furniture store
Anyone know how the new branded Toys R Us is doing? They opened a store in Texas summer of last year and I believe in New Jersey.
6-22-20
Anything good in Bucksnort? 🤣🤣🤣
Bucksnort is a place where you can get a snort of coke for a buck.😁😁
The American Freight probably was Sears Outlet, but I'm also gonna agree with someone else that it was originally probably office depot.
there is a buck snort in nebraska too!
There's an abandoned Sears in Northgate in Chattanooga, TN.
Hey wallie that building right next to the toys r us was a outdoor equipment company
YEESSSSSSSS. Still standing strong 2 years later.
It's being converted Into am autozone now ;-;
i love the big oneoneswith all the windows
Literally across the street from your hotel? Then that's just fate lol. It was meant to be! And the lights being on? Perfect.
I remember it closing, I used to live there. I was so sad because I was younger than 9, when is when I lost interest in toys.
I miss toys r us so much
Also in Laredo TX we're losing our Sears and Burlington.
I live in Jackson TN it's cool to see a video on are toys r us the store in middle was a atv small engine store before that a Verizon store
That toys r us was amazing
Yea! The night lights!!
Used to be in Office Depot next door to that toys r us
i live in jackson and it’s a mad hangout spot yo fr
Wally didn't toys r us reopen some stores in the United States?
Hey wallie I just found some good historical footage from sloozen1 there's a slew of videos in Jackson from 1987
