    LITTLE CABIN IN THE YUKON
    When I'm not traveling in an RV or at home working on an RV, I'm usually at our remote, off grid log cabin in the Yukon. My husband and I have had this cabin for over 20 years and love it. If you'd like a look into that part of my life, I have a channel showing how we live there, lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife. So much of what I learned living off grid at the cabin has come in handy living in an off grid RV! The link is here-

    Thank you for this video, it's help too see a size and also the question of difference of watt production. We had the choice between both 400w and 200w for a van so 2 x 200w looks a better choice for the small spaces.
    Thank you for your time to help others

      We’ve been using the 400w set the last few months traveling in our RV and while it does a quick job of charging the S2000 battery, it is very heavy and unwieldy to move once set up so you can catch the most from the sun as it moves. We’re finding the edge of the panels, which are heavy fabric, are wearing. The 2 200w setup would have been much easier to use, so you have made an excellent choice! Happy travels and thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

    My question is: How much power was Freddy putting out when he was laying with his tummy to the sun? Silly baby dog trying to help 😅. Great video!! 💜

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 10 měsíci +2

      Well, Freddie is actually Super Fred in disguise and has his own super powers⚡️and that’s how he renews his super power energy. So it’s very important for him to spend time lazing in the sun each day. The world would be in dire straits if Super Fred ran out of super power!😆Thanks for watching, li’l sis!❤️

    That is amazing that this little bit of shadow only has such a small loss. Do that too Anker, which I have, and almost all power is gone.

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 13 dny +1

      Hey! Thanks for watching! Trying to keep any and all shadow off the panels is the best option, but it's good to know it still charges when there is some. We used these 400W panels for 3 month this early spring while traveling and while they really do work well, they are HEAVY! Next year we plan to take the 2x200W and save the difficulties of moving them to follow the sun.

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 13 dny +2

      @@jmrdrgz We found this 400w 5-panel unit to work great for charging our S2000 battery quickly. But, it is super awkward to move around, even with 2 people. The bottom trim of the panels are wearing through because you end up dragging them. Definitely go for the 2-200W unless you are going to be stationary and can build a moveable platform for them. They are not weatherproof so can’t be left in the rain.

    Appreciate the review and comparisons! I wish I'd seen it a few months ago, I picked up a 400 w on Amazon a couple of months ago, but now black Friday prices have made me wish I'd waited, i would have gone with 2 x 200w , both for portability and better options of placement, finding the sun through the trees etc. the shade really is a killer!

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 8 měsíci +2

      You're welcome and thanks for watching! Yes, it always seems to be the way with buying something and then it goes on sale! We'll be using the 400W panel in our travel trailer. It's big and heavy and will travel much better in the trailer. The 200W ones are so much easier to deal with though. They can be carried in Honey, my little motorhome, much easier, as well as in the car camper. The 200W panels, when folded, take up just a little more space than the 100W panels, but with twice the ability to charge. So, in my opinion the 200W are a win win. Thanks for commenting! It's always appreciated!

      @HoneyandMe  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Glad this helped, Karen😁The actual dimensions of the panels are also something to consider when space is at a premium. How they will fit in your van could be a deciding factor, as well as weight. The 400w panels are heavy, but the 200w are very manageable.👍

    We may end up taking the 400W panel up to our cabin to add to our permanent solar system there. Our panels there are mounted on the side of the cabin due to snow load. This 400W panel would be one we would only set up while we're there and can get the most out of the few hours of daylight we get in the winter.

    These portable panels tends to failed after many foldings and unfoldings. I would rather have one of the two failed in the middle of nowhere than having ONE big panel failed and have no way of charging your power station. IMHO

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 10 měsíci +3

      That's a good point. With 2 you'd still have one to recharge if this happened. Just as an aside..the 400 Watt panel has a 2 year warranty, while the 200 Watt ones have an 18 month. So, possibly, Allpowers has seen a longer life in the 400 W panels and offers a longer warranty. Just a guess though. Thanks for watching!~

      What is the point of failure when set up too many times? You'd think that they would be engineered with reinforced connection points and wires flexible enough between the four panels to survive at least a thousand unfolds.

      Yes, the world has suddenly become very power hungry...solar power hungry! There are so many companies making them now. And, I guess it's a good thing, turning to solar energy. We are always amazed at the solar farms we drive by in the US. My brother in law installs solar systems in Alberta and just set up his barn to run on solar. But, yes, there are so many new companies producing these kinds of panels and solar batteries now, it's confusing! I appreciate Allpowers having reached out to me and given me the products to try.

      Hi and thanks for commenting! 😁I haven’t had any experience with other types, other than the kind we have mounted permanently on our RVs and the ones on our cabin in the Yukon. I’m sure they last longer ( our trailer is a 2008 and still has the original 100 W panel on the roof that still works great, although we had to redo the wiring this summer as it failed). Are the ones you are referring to the glass one with the metal frames? I’m assuming the ones you permanently mount are made to last longer, but for my needs, especially as a car camper, the portable, foldable panels are perfect. Also, I’m thinking anything that is made to be portable is going to be subjected to possible damage just because it’s portable. Thanks so much for adding your thoughts, Vie!❤️

      Those are great for supplementary power. Just purchased some new shingle layout fixed 170w panels for the cabin. A lot more efficient than older panels as they charge in shade. I have mine fixed on my steep pitched roof, so I don't have to worry about snow load as it slides off. A new mppt charger helps immensely, too. Turns out it's worth upgrading your system every 5-10yrs to maximize performance.

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@NorthernRetreat I'd be interested in hearing how you like the shingle panels. At our cabin we have 4 panels mounted to the wall facing the lake. Most of our time spent there is during the winter months, and the days are super short in the dead of winter. But we've found the sun reflecting off the snow covered lake, plus the sun being so low in the sky, does a pretty good job of keeping our battery bank charged up. I don't think the snow would slide of them if we put them on the roof. The roof is galvanized metal, and the snow does eventually slide off when we get a warmer day, but the pitch is not steep enough to have it slide off continually. So, it would just pile up on the panels and we'd probably break our necks getting up there to clean them off! lol! We have considered building a rack to hold panels that we could adjust for seasonal use, as well as clean off easily in the winter, but so far, our very simple system has been working for over 20 years!

    • @NorthernRetreat
      @NorthernRetreat Před 10 měsíci +2

      @HoneyandMe you could try Bifacial solar panels on your cabin roof, they charge from front and back and snow helps them charge even better being reflective like your roof.
