    Great video!
    I'm owning a Leica Standard E from 1932 and recently repaired it by professional serviceman who replaced shutter canvas and addjusted it for another 88 years of work. ;)

      @@spiroevangeloskally1354 In my opinion, you need to find a professional Leica camera service. These are rare and antique cameras and, for example, in my home country I could not find a suitable service. Sometimes you will meet a hobbyist service technician specialized in Leica.

    Hey Matt!
    I am not a professional but dabbling enthusiastic repair person :) I had very good results with pinhole repair using "plastic spray" you just tape off whole camera except the curtain and spray, wait 24 hours, advance the shutter to move a curtain spray again wait 24hours... Repeat until everything will be coated. Light coat will cover all those holes plus will not create uneven surface as liquid rubber would :)

    I have a iiif with pinholes in the curtain. I also tried using the rubber fix but I think the added thickness of the curtain made my shutter speeds slower. Time for an adjustment or a real CLA with new curtains

    Hey Matt another great video could you do a review on the kodak retina iia I think that would be really interesting for the people who like 50mm lenses because the camera is really small, quiet and the lenses that it came with are super sharp even wide open at f2

      Hi Edward, Leica ii and iii offer more functions as you have a RF/VF but if you only shoot wides the ic is great

Shopping on eBay for it now, there is lots of cameras, but I want to make sure that it works, I probably going to buy one from our local store in California, they do all tests on their cameras. Maybe I'll buy body first and then lens. I just want to have fun with film vintage camera, I already have my M 10-P Safari and SL2 cameras.

    Leica Ic and Bessa L are quite similar, indeed. But one big difference you should consider is that the Bessa L has a lightmeter...

      Doing it myself no but I sent mine away and now it’s like new. It was a retired guy that did mine as a favour so you just need a Leica repair guy. Try some of the repair shops.

    New shutter curtains might be the better way to go as the IC is a terrific shooter camera well worth the investment. My IF is frequently with me despite being almost completely worn out.

      Thanks, I fear a new curtain will cost the same as the camera sadly. I have a similar camera coming instead /too as a plan b option. Similar to yours wink wink ;). Hopefully that will work ok.

      With the cameras being no longer made, rugged as can be, and very cool, a full rebuild in my eyes is justifiable even though it exceeds the final value of the camera. ❤️😀

With few moving parts and no rangefinder etc to get knocked, I think if I get it rebuild it will outlast me for sure and can be passed down to my family :) ..I ordered a 2nd body as I feared the Ic may be gone for 6 months perhaps so hopefully the next body I found is a nice copy.

    I knew it! I was highly tempted by this 1C when I went to Flints 19th November sale. .I saw this and thought that you would bid for it as it is so small. What a good price! The only reason I did not bid was because I wanted to save my pennies for a mint M3 in the 30th November sale which I fortunately won. I wished you good luck in your bidding and I think you did have that. Congratulations!

      @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Definitely, especially in the near mint condition of your copy. My finger was hovering over the bid button and nearly competed with you. As you like compact 50mm cameras might I suggest you have a look at a Kodak Retina 111c or 111C, 11c or 11C, 1b or 1B? These folding 35mm cameras from 1954 to 1960 are built to exquisite German standards with very sharp Schneider lenses.The shutter sound imo is the best, even compared to my M3 or 111G.

      Hi, it might be hard to "repair". You can try a coloured filter over the window but the original ones are pricey.

    A Leica Standard/Ic/If style camera with Leica M mount would have been very nice, then I would have the 21mm 3.4 Super Angulon and a 21mm viewfinder :) The cameras Ic/If and later Ig and MD was for scientic use, so I guess that was why a shutter 1/1000 time was not needed, because the used flash, strobe or artificial light.

      Yes I didn’t look at the later Ig and others as the size of the earlier Leica iii is what attracts me. I have the Bessa L for a more modern lightweight plastic version! :) - great if you ever want to run with it.

      @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I do not any analog photography more, but I still got most of my analog cameras, I only have one Leica camera it is a compact camera I used for family and candid photography, it´s the Leica Minilux which I loved very much, the lens are super sharp compareable to Summicron ! I got it new in july 1995 and I used it untill april 2007 when I got my first digital camera.

    When you buy one of these cameras it may look cosmetically mint but there is every chance it will need a full stripdpwn and service and new shutter curtain.One needs to factor that into the cost

    Just bought an MDa body and to follow a Voigtlander snapshot Skopar 25mm LTM with finder. Which L39 to M adapter would you suggest. As there are no frame lines to worry about would it matter which?

      Hey Tom, congrats on your MDa! Yes correct you can use any adapter as no framelines. Old Leica ones or Voigtlander are best if you find a quirky framelines one cheap. If not cheap Chinese ones normally work fine, I use these too.

    Not being a native speaker but I would consider these as cold shoe not hot shoes as I assume they won’t both trigger a flash.

      Thanks, great point, my fault. I am so used to saying hotshoe for all cameras. You are correct. They are not powered therefore cold shoes and will not fire flash. (all early Leica including M2 and M3 didn't have "hotshoe".. that's why I have the later M4P/M6 - they do

    All good and dandy, but for what is this camera good for? Damn, even my first ever camera, the east German Beriette VSN camera was much easier to use due to built-in OVF, if you are satisfied with shooting 45mm f2,8 lens all the time that is...

    Do yourself a BIG favour: replace those wrinkled curtains! Part of the job is cleaning and relubing the rollers. As a result you'll have a much more smoothly operating camera.

      Thanks! This is an old video. yes several of my Leica iii cameras had to go for new curtains. My black paint 1931 Leica Standard that came after this is my new favourite! (Like you say.. as smooth as new too after an overhaul).
