@@mariajason3547 Not the same, though I see where you're coming from. The official Mistress had to be married to someone else and of noble blood. A concubine as far as I know is an official title that still includes marriage and the laws involved in the marriage (caring for your spouse etc). A concubine isn't a level of infidelity, unlike having a mistress that is recognized by all your friends.

Nice to “see” the face behind the Voice! Great narrative this time, as usual, too. One wonders about that convenient death of Mme. Chaterrand (sp?) only a year after Louis meets Pompadour. Or was the Queen not as “accepting” as she seemed? ☺️ How do French people feel today about their aristocracy in general? Probably not as sentimental as outsiders looking in, I’ll bet. Thanks again, Forgotten Lives. You’re so young to be so wise. (Almost rhymes, doesn’t it?)

Some French people will cling to anything from the past, including aristocracy, as they see it as the "purest" of times, when France was only populated by French, and not "polluted" by the eclectic population France has today .
What's funny is, France stole African men and kids as young as 13 to fight front row in WW2, then she used some more as almost free laborers to reconstruct the country after the war, while still using the "ancient" colonies as her personal bank.
Yet more than half of the French citizens hate the fact that Black, Brown and Muslim people live in their "republic" , when those people never asked to be there to begin with.
It's like the racist americans who ask the decedents of stolen Africans to "go back home" whenever they express a desire to have a sub culture, keep some personal traditions, or simply denounce the injustices perpetuated against them.
France has an enormous problem with her past and she makes the wrong people pay for it. France went to get cheap labor from Africa until..1998. Those people have kids now, and yet, they want them to leave when THEY made France what it is today by working for Reno, Citroen and other big corporations for almost one fifth of the salary of a white or french worker.
Hate and bigotry make no sense

She was a very fascinating woman of which I didn't know who did alot of political, social, personal, responsibilities for the King and France. I believe her and her mother probably thought the fortune teller meant she would be the wife of a king not the mistress, as it turned out. Wonderful Job! Wow!
The topic was fascinating. The others at court may not have cared for her, but they were well aware of what making a public comment or action against her would do. She might’ve disliked schooling, unless it was an asset to her life. Supporting the Arts as she did, created an unbelievable setting for Scholars and Artist which are still valued and studied today. This woman was incredibly intelligent when charting a pathway towards what she longed to become. A notoriously treacherous court, how well she achieved her main desire- to love a King, and more importantly, to have him love her as much in return. Savvy girl, smarter woman.
Wow! What an Excellent Job you have done! Kudos! Intelligent, interesting presentation of your topic. Beautiful coverage and French pronunciations. The media used to illuminate the subject- spot on. So pleased for you!

@@janetcw9808 I’ve been exploring many different avenues from fashion to crafting, history and more..somehow history on royals, keeps hitting me..and being a former makeup artist, and having worked with stylists on many designs..royal attire, along with etiquette and just how they managed back in their time...always fascinated me. Royal topics seem to always win!

In a time of political unrest and uncertainty, social upheaval, and technoaddiction it is refreshing to see in depth research and intelligent compilation of integral historical figures. I know this is mentioned often in this thread but I feel that despite not being related to the content of the video (Excellent by the way) it heartens me to see that such a young person be so deeply interested and knowledgeable in historical figures an their importance in how they shaped modern culture. If anything it gives me hope that all is not lost and we are not actually doomed to mental regression of the new generation. Bravo! Young man. Keep up the good work and don't let the deserved compliments go to your head. You have the beginnings of a very respectable career in education of people young and old through the new way. I am in awe and envy.

No wonder that Madame de Pompadour guardian took her under his wing and the fortune teller saw her 'capturing the heart of the king' - Pompadour must have been already drop dead gorgeous as a child, as seen from her pictures. It's sad that her mother groomed her to become 'that' but seeing the alternative how the poor lived back in the day... the mother probably wished the best for her daughter and herself.

Jeanne was indeed a beautiful child and very charismatic - the nuns at the convent where she was educated apparently loved her dearly and continued to maintain an interest in her long after she had finished her education and married. I don't think I would describe it as 'grooming' - in French society, the position of king's mistress was considered highly desirable and there was very little shame involved. However Jeanne was not poor - her stepfather Tourehem was extremely well off. The Poisson and Tournehem families were, if not exactly upper class aristocrats, at the very least solid middle class. Jeanne was never in danger of starving.
