    I made NO money with my first website. And here's why.
    I didn't know how to make money on the web.
    Today I'm going to share with you why your website isn't making you money.
    Reason #1: It's okay that your website isn't making you money.
    Most people don't know how to make money from their website.
    And, you're probably using things like AdSense, or banner ads, or rev content, or Taboola, and you think it's fantastic.
    You think you're going to get paid for clicks.
    Well, think of it this way.
    If a company is willing to spend money advertising on your website, and you're usually going to an ad network, who's keeping the majority of the money?
    They are.
    The last thing you want to be doing on your website is using ads.
    That's how I started off.
    I put ads all over my job board, and I thought I'd make money. Doesn't work.
    Reason #2: You have to monetize using your own product or service.
    It could be an ebook. You could sell an eCommerce product and do drop shipping.
    You can offer a service like consulting. Whatever you choose, you have to create your own product or service.
    Don't just create any product or service.
    You have to be passionate about it, and your users need it.
    Run a Qualaru or Survey Monkey survey, and ask them, what problem you can help them solve. They'll tell you.
    That's how you monetize your blog, make a product that is a solution to their problem.
    If you're not selling your own product or service that could be why your website isn't making you money.
    Reason #3: You haven't picked the right audience could be why your website isn't making you money.
    So here's what you need to do to pick a right audience.
    Look for all the competitive terms on Google Keyword Planner.
    Type in keywords related to your industry, they'll give you more ideas, hundreds of ideas, and they'll even show you the cost per click.
    When they show you the cost per click, look for the ones that are high.
    When they're high, that means there's money to be made, and it monetizes. When it's low, it means that it doesn't monetize well.
    You also need to look for volume. If a keyword only gets ten visitors, and ten clicks, it's not going to generate you much income.
    So you need to look through Google Keyword Planner, on the volume that you can get from all these terms, plus go to google.com slash trends, type in the keyword, and you'll see if it's on an upward trend or downward trend.
    If it's on an upward trend, that's great. If it's flat, that's great. If it's going down, you may want to rethink it.
    Reason #4: You need to build a funnel.
    The whole purpose of creating a funnel is to let people become comfortable with you and walk them down a path that causes visitors to convert into customers.
    You could create a funnel on your website, where someone comes, and they buy a seven dollar item, a product, service, ebook, or tripwire.
    Once they buy that, you already know that they're comfortable, you gave them so much value for this thing that's seven dollars, but in reality, it should be 50 bucks or 100 bucks.
    They feel like they got a steal. They just bought a $10,000 course for seven dollars.
    You could even do this with products, too.
    But once you get something for seven dollars, then you can sell them something for 50 bucks, 100 bucks, and then you can get into higher ticket items, like a thousand dollars, and $10,000.
    The goal with a funnel is to walk them down such an easy and good path, kind of like Groupon that they have no choice but to buy.
    An excellent example of funnels with physical products is Orabrush.
    Orabrush offers a free tongue cleaner; you don't even have to pay a dollar. Just pay for shipping. After you buy their free product, and you only pay for shipping, they have upsells and downsells, and that's how they make all of their money.
    If you follow those tricks and tips, your website won't just have visitors, but you'll also have those visitors converting into customers.

    I have made some money with my website by using traditional ads since the beginning, back in 2016. I don't sell my own product or service. In the recent months, however, I feel like I'm missing better oportunities to make more money. So I totally agree with you on the idea of having my own product.

    Yout tip about funnil is the best one (but not putting the others in a lower level of importance)
    Congratulations for your post and keep sharing all your (great) knowledge with us.

    I hate ads on my website and really tried to not have them on my site. As the site's traffic grew, I decided to sign up and use some premium ads. I still hate them, but the premium ads does generate nice passive income when you have good traffic...
    Ironically, the first two months I used them, it was the most money I made selling my own product I have on the site. I also thought the time on site would have decrease dramatically because of the ads but has not, which surprised the heck outta me....
    I hate the look of the ads on the site, but my mentally is, if it's generating income, and no one seems bothered by them, then I will keep it...
    What's your take on it?

    • @neilpatel
      @neilpatel  Před 6 lety

    Hello! So I have a quick question about keywords that confuses me a bit... Does a keyword have to stay together or can it be torn apart in a sentence?
    So let's take the example keyword: "best way to draw faces"
    When I write a blog article, does it have to stay together to rank for that keyword? Or can I, for example, write: "I know, faces can be tough to draw, but not with this article, which will show you the best way to draw them beautifully and easily!"
    An answer would be greatly appreciated. ♥

  • @BG-qe7iz
    @BG-qe7iz Před 6 lety

    I like the sad face thumbnail🤣 in regards to the whole funnel craze, I personally think it’s something you have to maximize now if you are at all on the fence about it. It works so well at the moment because there is still a large majority of sites who do not utilize funnels(ClickFunnels) to capture and convert leads. Same thing with $7 trip lines. But Once EVERYONE is doing it, or it becomes the “standard” in online marketing, consumers become privy and desensitized to it and it becomes less effective. I could be totally wrong, just my opinion. Upselling and down-selling of course is here to stay as its a core fundamental marketing principle.

    • @neilpatel
      @neilpatel  Před 6 lety +1

      Like anything, in order for you to succeed doing it you need to do it well. Doesn’t matter if everyone is doing it if you do it better.

    • @BG-qe7iz
      @BG-qe7iz Před 6 lety

      Neil Patel Very true. I think the $7 trip line may have to be changed in the future though. It’s like going to the club and hitting on a hot chick. If all the guys in the club who approach her are using the same lines and tactics to get her number, by the time she hears your spill she’s less receptive because she’s heard it all before and already knows what your trying to do. However, it is very true as you’ve said that it’s about doing it better and putting your own spin on it and then testing to see what they are most receptive to. And then once you get the lead, then of course upselling and downselling is fundamental. If you don’t do it, its like getting the number of the hot chick you met at the club and taking her on a date and then failing to open doors for her or pay for her dinner. Some will get offended if you don’t at least try. A good upsell makes the consumer feel like you’re actually doing them a favor, and not the other way around.

    Thankyou for such great idea. However i am wondering,. How about an entertainment niche site, such as Shayari and Jokes based website, especially if they are getting Indian traffic and as you know such site generate way too low cpc, do you think there maybe some other option to monetize such kind of website with any product or anything. Nowadays i am working on a site shayari based website which has pretty good traffic and wondering is there something i can do as an adsense alternative option here or somthing. Thankyou for your time.

    But as a noob blogger who needs money to start up and get going, isnt ads the way to go?
    I was going to create a blog in a niche and do answer posts(answering questions people type in google) to lure in traffic with long helpful content.
    Do as many as I can so I get alot of traffic.
    Then monetize with an ad network(one better than google adsense(it pays more).
    I just wanna start with baby steps to make some money at first

    Hey Neil! I have a question about making sales on my online smoke shop ‘Chiefchap.com’. I sell vaporizers, bongs, pipes and other things related to that. And because of the niche I’m in, I can’t advertise on Google and Facebook (sad face). Are there any ways I could start getting sales in the niche I’m in? I could use all the help I could get! It’s been a rough start..
