That narrow curl completely fucks up the wrists, the option I've been using for years (with great results) is the narrow grip with the EZ bar, way more comfortable

I wish I had seen this video yesterday Sean. I did a single banded waiter curl with four 5lb plates sellotaped together whilst balancing one leg on a bench WITH an inward grip and now my arms are literally just triceps. I really could have used this.
Did you record it? If not you've missed the whole point of even going to the gym.
@@JauntyWhale That's the thing. Even that was all for nothing. My tripod fell over when some juicer deadlifted 7 times more than I can and dropped it to the floor.
He didn't keep his thoracic spine 1239234876% straight and his feet weren't glued together so it was basically sumo anyway.
I could tell he was a juicer because he deadlifted more than me.

This makes a difference when you are solidly intermediate and can't add much progress on barbell curls. If you are still curling the bar or barely more, sticking to the barbell for the progressive overload isn't a bad option IMO.
Personally I built my barbell curl to 105x8 before I decided that I was plateauing and the stress on my joints was now greater than the stimulus.
My guy looks like an npc doing activities in the background of a game while he shows how to do the exercises.

I like the sitting and leaning forward dumbbell curls cuz I can force my elbow to stay in position, but I didn’t know if that was “good form” until seeing that clip at the end and felt reassured

I been doing inner and outer bar curls for over 28 years and no pain or injuries. I recommend to do both on the preacher bench. Then end it off with reverse grip.

I do this, but not THAT narrow. My hands are a bit to the inside, and the only reason is that i can actually feel my biceps working, whereas with a shoulder width grip i feel it more in my connective tissue. My plan with this is every 6-8wks i will move my hands two fingers further to the outside until my hands are eventually straight. That way i can work my mind-muscle connection towards that point of a straight grip. I havent felt much stress, but i do lock my stance in with my glutes and core stabilizing me, my shoulders back and chest up, that way i feel it entirely in my biceps. Ive been progressing in reps and weights consistently.
I never do narrow grip on a bar. Hurts my wrists. Plus it’s unnatural.

I don't use barbells for curls, it makes my wrist hurt.. With dumbells the motion is more natural. It's just what works for me, I'm an amatuer.

it'll damage the small piece of cartilage in the ulnar side of your wrist. I hurt mine that way and was lucky I didn't need surgery, but it took nearly a year for the pain to completely go away

What about Hammer-Curls are they also a gain killer or as effective as Bicep curls?
It takes the tension of the main head of the biceps and puts more pressure on the brachialis muscle which is important for developing bigger arms but won’t do much for ur bicep peak. I think 😅

Narrow grip targets the long head for better peak development, I alternate between narrow and wide grip
this is not true, having a narrow/wide grip doesn't emphasize one of the biceps head, just curl in a shoulder-width stance to have more ROM and put your biceps in a stronger position

@@DontGoogleDinosaurWith500Teeth its is just a fact mate, the only thing having a narrow/wide grip does is putting your humerus in an internal/external rotated position. The 2 heads of the biceps have nothing to do with the rotation of the humerus, so using a narrow or a wide grip doesn't change anything to the activation of the biceps
definitely think it's better to use dumbells since the bb can be risky on the wrist at higher weights from my experience

Whilst doing it like this on an EZ bar would probably be much better for joint health owing to the inward angle of your hands, the line of motion would still be fixed vertically, so yes. You could make the minor adjustment of just placing your hands on the wider grips of the EZ bar.
That being said, the difference in bicep output wouldn't be too big. It's just not totally 'optimal'. Honestly, if you enjoy doing them that way, I would suggest you still do them like that, because you're far more likely to be consistent with training if you enjoy it :)

I’d like to preface this by saying I too like narrow grip personally whenever I do preacher because it feels good to me just like you.
But…
It’s not just my insight saying that a narrow grip on a fixed vertical path is suboptimal. Sean literally says it in the video here. The same applies with an EZ bar because the hands are fixed on a vertical path.
The optimal path for a bicep movement, again as Sean says here, is for the path to align with the muscle fibres. Something which a narrowed grip on a fixed vertical path doesn‘t achieve.

Hello Sean, I just want to know your opinion about the Zottman Curls, is it effective?
I stay away from alot of cable bicep stuff. I never feel a good stress like i do with free weight. Is that psychological or maybe something im doing with form or weight thats effecting that? Im 42 now and would like to use cables more. Ive had alot of injuries in life as well. Is it ego?? Any advice is much appreciated.
