The saddest theme of BCS is that Jimmy never won anyone's respect but Kim's and the clients he worked with, and eventually served time with. Despite his charisma and tenacity, nobody ever wanted or could give him a shot. What is even sadder is that Chuck was ultimately always right about who Jimmy was and what he does to people. He had no issues stabbing Kim in the back with the construction settlement, he saw no problem driving Chuck to insanity by forging the address, he had no problem scamming people in the streets while living as a drifter, just like he had no problem stealing from his parents as a kid til they eventually went bankrupt. He did things the wrong way from the start and never changed, so why would anyone give him a legitimate chance? Chuck ALWAYS delivered the right message the wrong way, and Jimmy always delivered HIS message the right way, regardless of morals or evidence. It isn't what you say, but how you say it.
Chuck's message was a self-fulfilling prophecy. If he wasn't actively sabotaging Jimmy at every turn, things would've turned out differently. After he saved Jimmy from the prison and got him work at the mailroom he was like a god to him, Jimmy wouldn't have dared to make a fool out of him, as he promised. But Chuck pushed him to the side, and all what really was left was being Slippin Jimmy and eventually Saul Goodman, because that's the only thing that worked for him. He tried to go the right way, join HHM, but Chuck didn't let that happen.
Better Call Saul is the best show I have ever watched. And I even watched Breaking Bad. The characters were written so well, the plot was exquisite, the cinematography is the best out of any show I have watched. The final season in particular is the best. I could go on for hours about how good this show’s characters are but some of my favorites are - Jimmy (Saul), Nacho, Lalo, Howard and Mike. Even though Lalo wasn’t introduced until much later in the show, he instantly became one of my favorite antagonists ever. I LOVE breaking bad, I really do… But I like BCS better. The cinematography is perfection, and I mean it. Watch one episode of of the final season and try pto find one bad thing about it…. I’ll wait… In short Better Call Saul is the best show I have ever watched and I recommend it to anyone who appreciates well written characters and masterful cinematography.
BCS and BB stand head and shoulders above any other TV series I've seen (though I have a soft spot for Fargo also). Having said that. I prefer BB in that. although it doesn't have the riotous, uproarious humour of BCS, the main characters are that bit more believable. I can't follow Jimmy McGill's thought processes at times. He goes to elaborate lengths to make an old lady hated by her erstwhile friends in the care home, for the sake of a swift money settlement - and then deliberately torpoedoes his own plan simply because... the old lady is hated by her erstwhile friends. It doesn't make sense to me how someone so smart can be so utterly clueless about predictable consequences.
Better Call Saul simply has better villains, more complex characters, the plot is tighter, it's more realistic and portrays the world of crime, drugs and the cartel far better than Breaking Bad does.
@@humandugong630 I think Saul underestimated how much the other old ladies could hold a grudge. He expected them to forgive the lady when she agreed to take the settlement and didn't realize that wasn't enough for them to forgive her. He had absolutely no problem with inflicting temporary ostracization on the lady, but permanently breaking friendships was a line he wasn't willing to cross. Only when he realized that line would be crossed did he reverse course.
People keep dissing about Chuck, but knowing his brother since forever, seen things he done, seen the show of remorse that he put, it is undoubtedly why Chuck think Jimmy couldn't change. I guess he supported his brother for all his life, but eventually, his faith in his brother gone.

Chuck was the straight laced and successful brother whilst Jimmy was the screw up yet funny brother. However, once Jimmy began to actually straighten up (As per Chuck's request to do so) and tried to follow in his brother's footsteps to be a better person, Chuck denied him by stabbing him in the back. All the while Jimmy was looking after Chuck's mental illness. Because if Jimmy was able to turn his life around and be successful, Chuck would have nothing. As The actor for Chuck, Michael McKean, said "I (Chuck) made Mom proud but Jimmy made her laugh." And you can even see that Chuck didn't know Jimmy as well as he did as seen with the tape destruction scene. Chuck only thinks like Chuck and thought that Jimmy would be calculated and sneaky to get the tape back at night...only for Jimmy to come bursting in as loud and as angry as possible. I do believe that had Chuck genuinely tried to take Jimmy under his wing at HHM, they could have been a great duo. Jimmy would be able to talk to clients and the jury far better on the more murkier cases with Chuck coming in strong with cases that required that firm hand. Or at least had he properly tried to see Jimmy beyond "Slippin' Jimmy" and given him a pathway to leave that life, he would have then been justified later. But that's why I love Chuck. He's the perfect foil to Jimmy as Jimmy is the perfect foil to Chuck.
