From "Mr. Monk Meets the Playboy" (Season 2, Episode 8): Elliot D'Souza, Chief Financial Officer for a high-powered publishing company, is working out in his private gym alone when suddenly the weight of his barbell overwhelms him and it comes crashing down violently on his throat. He's killed instantly, choked to death by his own workout equipment. Is it just an unusual accident, or something more sinister? Elliot's secretary, Miss Luden, is certain that Dexter Larsen (Gary Cole), the infamous publisher of the gentlemen's magazine Sapphire, somehow orchestrated her boss' death. As it turns out, Elliot was planning to close the doors of the infamous swinging party palace, the Sapphire Mansion. Not satisfied by the results of the police investigation, Miss Luden asks Monk and Sharona to take the case.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

My favorite activity is going to the comment sections and just reading how much other people admired this great show like I did. Sending everyone love!!
Same.
This show reminds me of "House."
The main character s disorder was also his greatest asset.
@@mariecampbell3373 Wow I never thought about it like that. Great comparison
Me too i am so obessesed with this show
Rewatching the series got me through the pandemic. 🤣🤣🤣
The way Monk smiled at Sharona wish such admiration when she said “looks like you picked the wrong two women to mess with” will always get me. He respects and admires her so much.
It’s not romantic like most shows have it. They are friends. He sees her as his friend and partner in crime and genuinely cares about her. I have always loved that.
I agree. That smile says everything.
There was almost nothing to admire about Sharona, I think she either slept with or was dating half the murderers in her episodes.
@@tailgatecarpenter26 how lucky she had a ladder laying around for months just like the criminal needed!
@@JohnSmiffer what do you mean the character or IRL? I didn't see that in the episodes so that is a surprising comment.
@John Smith I don't know what show you were watching but that basically never happened. The closest I can recall was Mr. Monk and the earthquake when the boyfriend of the killer tried getting close to her to get into her sister's house. Please provide some examples
Idk why youtube suddenly started deciding to send me Monk clips, but guess who's gonna rewatch the whole series
You and me both.
I know right.... 👍
This was really a brillant murder plan.
He killed the man in a closed room and he wasn’t even in that room.
Locked room murders are always fun
Nearly as clever as the guy that murdered a woman while he was in space.
@@jbz4788 also the husband who trained a neighbors puppy to commit the wife's murder, while he was nowhere near home, but at work.
I don’t recall that one with a puppy. 🤔 ???
@@jeanneratterman it was that guy from a radio station that trained a puppy to open the gas thing in his bedroom
Nobody but Tony Shalhoub could have played Monk this well. You can admire his genius at the same time that you pity his phobias. Great supporting cast for sure.
You got that right!
I think Stanley Tucci came pretty close.
It was a gift... and a curse.
Well, and Grant Rossenmeyer of course.
Plus the amount of intimidation he manages to put in a short phrase like "your turn" at 3:51 is chilling
I love how he just tilts his head and gives Sharona that LOOK, and she smirks because she knows from his body language that he's solved the case before he even smiles.
Yes, that Cheshire Cat smile! "Here's what happened..."
I love how that 'car lifting magnet' didnt affect anything else in the dining room during Monk's demonstration 😂
right 😂
Like what? I didn’t notice anything that a magnet would affect
@@debbylou5729 all the cops have guns, belt buckles, keys, badges. There's purse buckles, nails in the table, cutlery (since it looks like the dining room). Sure some of those won't be ferrous, but remember this was a magnet that was strong enough to move all the metal objects in a room on a different floor, including chairs and dumbbells and clock hands. Yet it doesn't affect anything else in the dining room XD
@@salmanhamid9911 the ‘cops’ around it are plain clothes police plus a civilian and the table was clear of everything
@@debbylou5729 Eddie is wearing a pistol no more than a foot away from it, for a start.
Adrian Monk really was a good character. Great show and great cast all the way through.
Monk smiling when he figures out the case and then him saying "here's what happened" love how he lets the murder belittle or embarrass themselves to catch them such a brilliant detective even when he is afraid of a million things but when it comes to knowing the murder he ain't afraid of nothing
Yeah! Monk is in his element, and he is the apex predator.
I remember that one where the lieutenant promised monk that he would have him registered as a detective but he couldn't keep his half of the bargain so monk was kind of not wanting to solve the case until he accidentally solved the case by vacuuming
@@paulleckner8235 he could beat the predator in a death battle
Yeah I know right he always managed to figure it out after one tiny mistake that the greatest criminals of all time could have done even the greatest detectives of all time could have missed
@@A-TALKING-TOASTER Here's what happened. The predator forgot to "get to the choppa!" Monk noticed that his grenades were crooked and hooked them to the predator's utility belt. When predator pulled out a grenade it pulled the pin and blew up the predator!!
The Cast and the Writers made this show one of the best. Always liked Tony in everything he's in.
This episode's killer really was brilliant! To think he would've gotten away with it if she wasn't playing the piano the exact moment they were investigating the weight room
I read half way through I thought you were gonna say those dang meddling kids and their dog.
Natalie once said that he was karma.
Actually, it’s more like he would have gotten away with it had he not had an alibi, wasn’t so smug, if he had dismantled his magnet, and perhaps bought a new car battery to power the magnet, I mean it’s not like it would have been out of place in his workshop.
@@marckempe2143 there's so many what-iffs here.
I enjoyed all episodes of Monk, but like with all shows, I can't help but be a little bothered with the hingepin of the resolution is so improbable. Especially when the physics are nearly impossible.
This scene has that all. Lol
"The harder you work, the luckier you get."

Omg, I LOVE Monk. I’ve watched the entire series over and over again, I think it might be time for another binge watch!
I own the whole series on DVD.
Had to.
My place was uneven without it.
😂
the amount of cases that would have fallen apart , and been thrown out of court , if it wasn't for the full confession . not just Monk.
The “your turn” is my favorite line of the summation ❤️
First time Monk touches Sharona so gentle. Sweet how he tries ro protect her. Love it.
"Your turn."
I bloody love Monk.
❤
3:52 - I love the way he says, "Your turn."
Did monk ever smile at Natalie when he solved a case like that - he does it frequently with Sharona which shows his unique relationship with her as his nurse and assistant
I think he does, but it was more often with Sharona because she’d been with him for more years than Nathalie.
Loved Sharona! Natalie not so much...
I do think if you watch older episodes he was a little more "normal" than later on when they kind of made his behavior even stranger.
@@70sgirl42 Love them both.
@@joeconcepts5552 that could be because he was moving and working towards getting better and recovering and it was a slow but progressive process and he was getting the hang of it which sharona had a huge hand in and since he knew her for so long especially after Trudys death. Sharona was his nurse while Natalie was just an assistant
To be able to deduce murderous intent by observations. Then somehow, put the pieces together?
That is truly a gift.
It's a blessing and a curse. Physician, heal thyself. In the series finale, he solves Trudy's murder.
Randy is hilarious in this episode.
"Pinch me!"
Even though he amd Sharona have a hostile relationship, Randy cared enough to burn that photo of her past to protect not just Monk, but Sharona most of all.
@@algordo1997 And the mafia episode, where he shows Sharona the phone tapping of Fat Tony.
@@algordo1997 But Randy did take a look first...
The only time the Chief is truly disgusted with Randy is when they both are on vacation at the beach and the Chief, in disgust, has just thrown his engagement ring in the sea and then looks at Randy, who seems to having fun by himself.
It captivated you from the first chords of theme tune until the end. It was wonderful clean, funny, sad and for some inspiring entertainment all the way through.
Here's how it happened.... You can just picture the hammer of justice, delivered by Monk, coming down on the killer.
Sharona's smirk is perfect
Love the show. Working through it again from the beginning. It's very high on my "comfort series" list.
Ted Lasso, Scrubs and Frasier are my favorite comfort series.
I loved the episode that showed Monk's wife and how she accepted everything about him and helped him along.
I think this was the one and only episode where I knew exactly what had happened as soon as the murder took place.
There are a few episodes where you know what happened right from the start, but they make it so it’s still investing to see how it gets solved
Smart episode and great show. I love that look that Monk makes when he solves the case
The light comes on.
Great TV shows have characters that you can invest in and believe. And this one had a bunch! From Adrian to Sharona/Natalie to Capt. Stottlemeyer and Randy. They were all very likable and relatable in their own ways...
It borrows many elements from Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot
Nina Hartley is my go to actress , totally believable
I never liked Sharona. It was her job to be the assistant of someone with a mental disorder and she constantly harped on him for it. If he wasn't like that, you wouldn't have a job.
Couldn't stand Natalie, myself. Absolutely LOVED Sharona. She was always a riot. I found her antics immensely entertaining. Also got a huge kick out of her NJ accent (as a non-American), made all of her dialogue 10x funnier.
They had lightning in a bottle with the original cast/characters. Randy, Stottlemeyer, Dr. Kroger, Sharona, and obviously the inimitable Adrian Monk. All of them were fantastic.
I love this show so much. I just rewatching it over and over again.
I love Monk's smile when he solved the case.
Ah, so that’s where the big dog from Friends went.
A magnet can't really work that strongly from a distance of 3 feet. The attraction power decreases very quickly with distance. When you see these electromagnets being used on TV at a car junkyard, say, the magnets only attaches to the object when touching of a few inches. Also a magnet that size would weigh > 100 lbs.
You're just no fun: (
Plus, he's apparently running it from 12v DC. But when it's being used under the table, it's buzzing. Also, when you see him building it, it has a 110v OUTLET on it.....
Hey, suspend the disbelief, it's still a good story. Monk always was !
It's a tv show guys.get a life.
I noticed the buzzing, suggesting it's running from AC now.
Odd that the buzzing was inaudible until the reveal. 🙂
Also I have a 'background in electronics', I could design a computer, but I couldn't build that magnet.
@@epiendless1128 I mean, it's really just coils of copper and some magnets isn't it? Simple but complicated sort of thing. It's wild how simple yet intricate electric motors, electromagnets and all that are.
And that's why we enjoyed watching Monk so much.😊
Love this Guy! His acting is so unique! He is absolutely amazing.
I love it when Monk always knows there is something wrong
Happy (one day late) 20th Anniversary Monk.
I love how Tony’s real life wife was in an episode every single season.
She was? I remember only 3 episodes. But I could wrong, was a long time ago.
She was ONLY in 3 episodes!!
5 episodes playing 4 different characters
This show and Columbo. Great writing, great acting, and GREAT characters.
Unfortunately Columbo always showed the full crime and perp at the beginning. And he always met the perp a few minutes into the show. This show makes you think a lot more.
You can't forget Matlock, Nero Wolfe, and the Ellery Queen Murder Mysteries. Why that only had one season I'll never know. All truly magnificent, all unique in their own way.
"I'm sorry sir, but I have one more question first...."
Columbo and Monk both knew there was no such thing as the perfect crime. There was always one or two clues that pointed directly to the murderer.
I agree. Both shows are great. I find Monk more fun to watch, but I have to give the edge to Columbo for the character. Columbo knew who did it within a few seconds of being on scene. But it took him the episode to prove it. He also had a bit of a dark side that Monk didn't, where he would manipulate the situation to get the back guy, even if he had to break the rules. In a way, they were opposite, in that Columbo was an expert in human nature while Monk was a perfect observer of the physical world. But they were the same, in that their adversaries always underestimated them.
That last part is a bit weird, now that I think about it. Imagine the bad guy, who is often at the first scene, being introduced to either of them as "this is Lt Columbo/Monk. He's been doing homicide investigations for 20 years. If he doesn't catch this person, it will be the first time he's failed. Best of luck!"
Dexter, if you could come over to lift magnetic statues on Saturday, that'd be greeeaaattt...
Gosh I don't know how this end up back in my life, but I remember watching this all the time with my mom growing up
I really wish they would restart this series. Watching Monk made me smarter 😊
This is the only time I thought “I could do that”. Problem is there is no one I want to kill that has a workout room directly above the apartment of someone who is traveling and I have the spare key. All my enemies are either lazy, go to a gym or workout in their garage.
Tony is awesome. he kills me as Jeeb in Men in Black.
He was also the macguffin in an episode of X Files. A real tear-jerker.
He was hilarious in his role as the non-English speaking cab driver in "Quick Change"! Loomis (Randy Quaid) after he runs through a red light: "You don't know colors do you?!?! You don't know red from hell!!!!"
(It's a great heist/getaway comedy with a fantastic ensemble cast including Bill Murray, Geena Davis and Jason Robards among others, if anyone hasn't seen it.)
I would have kept the necklace and the Ferrari
Bespeaks humble origins.
The writer and director of this show have an absolutely brilliant mind..
It's a blessing and a curse.
Except there is no way he could have held the magnet against the ceiling.
Never watched it when it was first run, but after watching a few clips Im' going to have to binge watch the whole series!
I miss this show so much. Me and my mom used to watch it together along time ago before she passed away. I miss my old life lol
My favorite Monk episode ever.
I am always amazed by the stories the writers come up with. Very talented people. Good thing they are writers. Very ingenious plots.
And total nonsense from a physics point of view - a magnet that can do that would be the size of a car, and would require a small power station to power, never mind how you're going to cool it.
Always brilliant episodes. Wish they were brought back.
The magnet would leave it's signature on the metal in the apartment.
It is signature.
Can't fault Bitty Schram for wanting a pay boost.
I watched this show as a kid I loved it so much
Thank you Monk channel. 😍😍😍💯
Monk smile at Sharona love it
I didn’t see this one until the reveal! You’re good!
Monk is sooooooooo smart. It is funny how he proves everyone wrong
This is what happens when you tell Lumbergh you don't have those TPS reports ready
One of the greatest shows of all time.😅
I love how he solves difficult mysteries.
Such a great show!
love Monk, love San Francisco! Monk is always on my long haul flight section.

Such a good show.
All these years later, still my favorite show
Some of my favorite shows are Monk and House MD. Both of them have their "look" moments, that are just epic.
Sweet. Good work, Monk!
And this is my assisstant... muh muh muh muh my SHARONA!
Everything moved buy itself this Murder was brilliant
Good Episode!
That’s grrrreeeaaat. I’m going to need you to come back on Saturday with those TPS reports.
Never get tired of how they trolled him before explaining what happened.
Occasionally, the USA produces a well thought out programme, hires good actors and has great scripts. This is one of them.
Surprised he didn't open a portal with that coil magnet.
Definitely a very creative way to kill someone.
Also, even though this episode came out before it, I only really see Gary Cole as Reese Bobby of “Talladega Nights.”😉😂
Nah. He’s Bill Lumbergh forever.
He's also Cameron Dennis in Suits.
But yeah - Reese Bobby - If you're not first you're last.
I loved watching this show.
"Let's make it happen Captain."
"He looked ok to me."
Famous Monk-isms
I wish I could watch this show again...😢
My only issue with this scene at the end is you couldn't hear the magnet making that noise until they revealed randy under the table. That really doesn't make sense. I'm just nitpicking though
Me too, but then again that magnet was suppose to be strong enough to destroy a room. If the magnet was really suppose to be on then keys and whatever else should gone flying. It don't seem like the magnet has any power-source at all there under the table. So for all purposes to take the pieces fit, we might as well assume it was sources with like a normal battery pack and that it made very little noise, that would seem loud enough to hear but actually only heard when Randy revealed because it focused on the microphone picking up the sound is much closer.
This is the only problem you had with it?
A 12 volt car battery is not going to power it.
Breaking Bad needed a junkyard crane magnet and and bunch of batteries .
Strong enough to lift a car would have pulled the nails out of the ceiling, and the fillings out of the victim's mouth.
And it would have pulled anything metal out of the murderer's pockets when they had the magnet under the table.
And, what idiot would keep the murder weapon around after the murder?
@@MrYfrank14 yup. That was my only personal problem
@@MrYfrank14 no magnets are very short range
That's the dog from Joey's apartment..!
This show had the best series ending.
Yes. I was afraid they let Monk in desperation. But such a lucky ending - and the song so great.
Along with the endings of "Burn Notice", "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul", "Monk" definitely tied up the series very nicely!
It's so entertaining. You don't have to agonize.
My favorite scene in the whole history of the show.
Monk E. Face - my hero!
This show was so awesome. Reminds me of Columbo.
I don't know why this was suggested to me, but I'm glad it was!

Randy is clearly having fun down there
A very interesting character and the actor is too.
Does anyone think that white dog statue looks like the one in Friends?
I immediately thought that!
I wonder who its agent is.
It probably is. Just a prop kept in the studio.
It appears that you do.
Happy to see they found a new home for Joey’s dog
Lovely character.

Could you upload the part when Monk is reading Trudy's poem?
2:40 A MAGNET? Just guessing... lets see. Heck yeah, I was right. Clever plan really. Besides everything in the room being tilted. I use to watch Monk every morning before school, getting baked haha. Thats and Jordan's Crossing or something haha.
it would take a lot more than a 16 gage extension cord to power that
Not in the Monk universe.
You only need a minutes worth of power
