- We made a tough decision w our border collie June. She has excellent abilities as a stockdog / herding dog and deserves to be given a shot at the big leagues in trialing.
Also meet Dex! He is highly trialed and proven finished working border collie from the same trainer. He was the 2022 Southwest Cattledog Assoc. National futurity reserve champion along w other placements. So excited to see what he will do here.

June doesn’t care about awards. She just wants to be with her family doing what she was literally born to do.
I live in a large city... there are too many border collies here, forced into a live of being pets. Some owners really do their best to exercise them etc., but imo nothing beats real work, a dog knows the difference, too.
That is very sad,weirdkauz,& a TED talk idiot suggested when these very active outdoor breeds can't adjust to metro confinement they need to go to a therapist.Now you know what I mean by a TED talk idiot.They don't understand working dogs like Borders,LGD's,etc.& actually think the dogs are in need of adjustment to metro with the help of a therapist😮
@@Weirdkauz I live in Colorado suburbia. My neighbor was sweet enough to let my border collie herd her four children. There was no teaching him to do it; he knew exactly what to do! We were in the front yard one day, and her toddler ran towards the street as a large truck was heading the same way. Scout ran after the kid, grabbed the shoulder of her shirt, and moved her right back into her "pack" of siblings. My neighbor cried happy tears as she hugged my dog and brought him over a raw steak later on that day. I had my boy for 14 years, even training him for service dog work to assist me with my disability. You are correct: a happy border collie has to balance their work and play life! Scout left me 8 years ago. I've had Akitas, Labs, a Newfoundland, Great Danes, and a Doberman-- none matched the intelligence, situational awareness, and devotion of a border collie.
Pretty bold of you to refer to the ranch manager as a mere cat. I’m sure Luna will address the matter. Good luck to June in training and Dex looks at home already

Champions only come along every so often. June has a natural skill and it would be hard not to make her the best she can be. Many dog lovers will not understand how you could do that but many dog lovers don’t have working breeds that actually do work that they were bred for. All of my Goldens instinctively retrieve even a young as 8 weeks but they could never do Junes job even close to as well as she does no matter how much they were trained. I love watching your videos and I honestly thought “Oh no” when it popped up. So glad it was not bad news. ❤❤❤🐾🐾🐾
Same here. When June is done with trials and maxing her potential, I hope she returns to the farm and hangs out with her friends

I have enjoyed watching Junebug grow and mature. So glad you see her potential and have decided to let her reach her maximum . Beings like her only come around ever so often. I think Hodges cattle company made a mistake in selling her. Go Junebug let them see what they missed out on. You've got it all together. Great decision to send June back to complete her training! She’s remarkable now, can’t even begin to imagine how she’s gonna be after completing her jedi master training 🥰 Dex is a handsome fella. What a great addition to the team 👍😎

What a huge decision for you regarding the talented June. The fact that she hasn’t yet fully realized her absolute potential is awe inspiring. I think I would do the same, bc to know that June’s potential is in the top 10% of trial challenges and training for her breed is exciting!
It is also a testament to Raventree Ranch recognizing her abilities as a young puppy and encouraging her to develop and build on her natural potential by respecting June, guiding June, loving June and giving her the best start in life.
I m eager to watch Dex integrate into the Ranch family of the 3 LGDs, Luna the Recon cat, and the backup team of Pete and puppy, Steam. I m sure it will all work out well. This situation seems to be similar to being the parent of a gifted child. They are your baby, but you know that with the right opportunities they can do so much in the world. You want to keep them safe and supported with you, but letting them go to special schools and programs will help them hone their abilities and feel accomplished. The dogs and Luna are friends/family/business partners here so it's really worth investing so much in their well-being.

So serious she is she got all that naturally in her, and want to be part of your dogs and a cat crew, and has proved his worth tenfold they all have must be really good schooling and great breeds❤😊😅
I could tell how she wanted to work and all the other dogs were playing. She will be happier with her training to reach her highest potential. I'm sure it was very hard to let her go; because she is a marvelous dog.

I don't know anything about herding dogs or their training, but from the videos alone, even I can tell June is amazing and I'm sure she'll be great with the new training she already seems to love her work at your farm.

That really is a tough call. It seems to me, that this sort of talent can only come with a love and an obsession with guarding. So it's a really great thing that she will get to hone her skills and get to really focus on what she loves!

Ohhh, this must have been such a hard decision. I feel for you. If it helps at all, I've found in my life that when these decisions are made with the other person/pet's best interest at heart I haven't regretted it. Good luck and looking forward to seeing all that June is able to accomplish.❤
