  • Japan is a wonderful country, and Austin and Arthur love living there. But there are some worries they have about the future of Japan. What are those worries?
To start, there’s the weakening of the yen, aging society, and lack of competitiveness in the market.
I’m this episode they touch upon Toyota’s inaction to focus on Electric vehicles, the fall of Sony in the face of LG and Samsung, and also how much of a pain it is to buy stuff from the United States now.

    Austin, get better soon!
In my opinion the first social barrier against foreigners is speaking Japanese.
Being legally Japanese is a next level but at least in my experience people speaking in Japanese are significantly more welcomed in the community since it proves you accepted the culture here.

It’s shocking, but true that Japanese people are proud of its culture, they are going to have to change it in the coming decades.

Many young kids can’t do normal schooling, and I think they are going to be catalyst for change. (I’m talking about futoukou and hikikomori kids.) The Japanese system is not kind to human nature and is toxic to one’s organic development or being. I think the older generations are still holding on to its power, trying to mold younger generations into old system mind set. I’m thinking so called failed generations (ages 40-50) have tendency to escapism, but many of them went on to foreign countries or have very strong admirations to foreign cultures. The problem is the generations that are holding the power currently are not yet welcoming these foreign influenced populations or their one cent (opinions). I’m thinking the balance of that may tip over as the time goes.
The funny thing is that on public transportations like subways, I felt 50% of people obese in the US, but in Japan, 50% are elderly. I have to say they are both very concerning.😅

Awesome seeing the channel growth you guys!
Ori and the Blind Forest was a fun game. Definitely try the sequel, too. Arthur is thinking of Okami, which is also really good!
I think the yen can still recover, it will just take time. Sony might be struggling in the phone market, but Sony still kills it in headphones and TV. They top-tier ones sound way better than Samsung ones. I have a Sony Bravia and the screen is crisp, affordable, and has great color-range. And of course they have the Playstation brand, which netted them a record $26.9 billion revenue last year. Japanese companies might not stand-out in terms of mainstream, but we should be fine for at least another decade. That said, I think Tokyo gets hit the hardest, whereas Osaka doesn't seem to be struggling too hard (yet).

The issues you talked about are 貴重. A country can’t be the same forever. Japan needs to change. Japan haven’t experienced such a change. Needs opinions from someone like you.

Sorry guys but completely wrong. Japan has moved on from the consumer market to the BtoB market. If you look into the components, 30~90% are Japanese depending on product. Virtually the camera component, Quartz timing components are all Japanese. The silicone wafers are 90% made in Japan. The high grade carbon composites are basically from Japan which comprise 40% of commercial airplanes. Japan's product has become less visible but has become much more vital in developing products in general.
The main reason why Yen is consider as one of the key international currency is becuase most high-tech companies require to maintain a certain amount of Yen reserve as a hedge for FX fluctuation.
