  • Todays video was a bit of everything. We talk about why are there no trash cans in Japan, but we also talk about drinking in Japan, meeting new people. This was an unstructured, fun episode and we hope you like it

Japan's contradictory culture is pretty funny. You ever read The Chrysanthemum and the Sword? Goes in depth into Japanese culture in a nice way that doesn't trash the culture or anything, but brings light into a lot of the seemingly backwards aspects of this country.

Don't take that book seriously. It's written by someone that has never even visited Japan and it's said Benedict herself told her students not to read it much in her later years.

I remember garbage cans have been removed since the 9.11 incident, but it seems to me that the reason is used as a convenient excuse for the easy management for public servants and such. By the way, just for your information, do you know there is a courtesy way when you pour sake to the cup, especially juniors do it for senirors? In this case, put the label side up when you do it. Sounds silly, right?

It's not since 9.11 (2001) but is from that sarin attack (1995) by Aum.
