  • So Vinnies MOT is due, after a look around we found that the auxiliary belt was shot.
    This is what we did to fix it.
    I got the replacement belt from EuroCarParts.
    And new clips from Ebay:- 192219011477

    I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk!

    Well, that was ridiculously easy. 25 mins, start to finish. Tools out to tools away including jacking van and washing hands. Never done it before but another one ticket off the list. Very informative video. Thanks

    Was the van starting no problem before you changed the belt? Or making noise when first started

    • @LarcsWorkshop

      I can't remember it being noisy before, just noticed it was looking bad.

    Also, are these TVP'S normal quite heavy on steering? Power steering fluid is fine. Hopefully a belt change will help I don't know.

    Is that the 1.9 engine. I'm having a terrible time putting my new belt on. It's as though the belt is @ 2 inches too small even though I have measured it against the old one. Tried locking the tensioner into place but cannot get an Allen key to lock the tensioner. I'm sure there isn't a hole on the block for the key to enter.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Před 5 měsíci

      I'm not sure there is a hole for it. Mine didn't seem too bad but I don't have A/C, it is quite a hard spring, perhaps try a longer spanner or breaker bar?

    • @daletinsley2954
      @daletinsley2954 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@LarcsWorkshop I sorted it. Had to pull really hard to get the tensioner to move enough to get an Allen key in. Even then the belt was a tight fit. I could only do it by fitting it round the crank. They don't give you much room to get a 15mm socket on the tensioner. It butts against the chassis. The original job was to change THAT starter motor but decided to change alternator the belt and water pump. ( 120.000 miles ). Almost everything was a battle ( rounded off torx screws ) thanks for the reply DALE

    Hi,what happens if the belt snaps,does it do major engine damage?thanks.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Před rokem +1

      This is the auxiliary belt on this year of van so only drives the alternator, power steering pump and AC if you have it. If it brakes, it shouldn't cause any major problems as long as it doesn't get caught up in anything (obviously the alternator, power steering and AC won't work). The timing belt (that drives the cam, water pump etc) is a different matter. If that brakes, it CAN cause major engine damage.
      Cheers Larcs 👍
