  • More than half a million acres of Waggoner Ranch will soon go up for sale, but some are worried that the sale could be the last roundup of true cowboy culture. The massive ranch was created only four years after the state was founded. Anna Werner reports.

To correct Bob's story. W T Waggoner never owned Poco Bueno, nor was he ever owned by the ranch. Poco was owned by E Paul Waggoner, W T's son. W T never saw the horse as he had been dead for Ten years before the horse was even born. The horse is not buried inside his monument, he's buried standing up near the marker. He was put down and buried by Fagin Miller.

Sold recently to LA Rams owner and megamogul Stan Kroenke, who probably has never worn a cowboy hat or rode a horse in his life but nows owns ranches in 4 states and Canada. He also owns the NBA Denver Nuggets, the NHL Colorado Avalanche & a big piece of Arsenal UK football club. He will own the brand new LA stadium the Rams soon play in. Kronk said he will keep the Waggoner family ethos & traditions in place. He's also married to Wal-Mart heiress Ann Walton. Between them theyre worth about $12 billion.

Sad people like that buy up these family ranches. Some of the Waggoner heirs did not want to sell but other greedy ones did and forced this, I hope the Waggoner family ghosts haunt them until they die.

Dan Waggoner was my great uncle. In fact, at one time the family owned over 1 million acres.

There are cemeteries, but the most famous burial site is a monument with Tom Waggoner's favorite Quarter Horse, named Poco Bueno. Poco Bueno's buried standing up inside the monument. In fact, Poco's blood line is world famous and his "children" are all over the world at many famous horse ranches.

My mom's Smith line of Vernon married into that family. She is a relative of the Smith/Waggoner marriage! When she was in high school, she never knew she was related to the Waggoner's at all.

In Texas we have agricultural exemptions for ranch/farm Land. It keeps taxes low and cost effective. I have it on my small humble ranch.
