    Speaking of Samsho fighters. I have been reading Nakoruru - the gift the gave me visual novel. I see why Nakoruru is popular and she might end up being my favorite Samsho fighter after I finish it. It's very good. From the music, the art, the characters, and the story.
    I hope the ending doesn't make me too sad. I found it because you shared it. Also thanks for the video man. Your content is unmatched man.

    Good job, that was a nice walkthrough over the franchise history. It would be nice to see this type of videos for other worthy 2d fg franchises, SNK or not. Well, next year we will have significant anniversaries like 30th for KOF and Marvel (Xmen Children of the Atom) so that's pretty good and promising material.

    Samurai Shodown/Spirits 2 and V Special will always be my favorite games in the entire series. Hopefully one day, SNK finally makes a new entry that includes more original fighters who were cut from the 2019 reboot, bring back the fatalities from V Special, and no shitty guest fighters please.

    • @elmono6299
      @elmono6299 Před rokem

      @NeoGeoNow I'm mixed towards Samsho 2019. On one hand, there's some redeeming qualities such as beautiful graphics, roster consists of many mainstream characters with some returning & new characters, a cool yet frustrating final boss, a badass main theme song, and it's nice to see Mina & Iroha in 3D. But on the other hand, the game suffers with it's expensive reliance on DLC to make up its barebone content, long loading screens, terrible online netcode (which has been attempted to be fixed), and my biggest pet peeve is that many missing characters got their slots stolen by extremely cringey guest fighters such as The dumbass Warden (For Honor or Fortnite but with swords) and lame-ass bunnygirl from that Chinese League of Legends mobile game rip-off that no one cares about. Clearly, they were only picked as forced product placement which is what nobody wants.
      I just really hope that SNK will not repeat that mistake with not just Samsho but their other fighting game franchises period as I do not want to see online multiplayer game characters from Call of Duty, Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, Apex Legends, For Honor, Raid Shadow Legends, or some Chinese mobile game rip-off crashing into King of Fighters 15 or the upcoming Garou Mark of the Wolves 2.

      @NeoGeoNow Since it has been a long time since Samurai Shodown 2019 was released. If you were hired to direct a new entry in the series (which I'm going to guess, it's going to come out 20 - 30 years after this game)?
      Me personally, and whoever else is reading this. Please be as respectful as possible and do not throw a tantrum just because you disagree with whatever it is that I want. This is my choice, not yours or SNK'S. Now that I got that off my chest, here's what I would do:
      1. Keep the entire roster excluding the guest fighters (except for the Last Blade character Hibiki being the only one who's allowed to return) from this game but this time include more original fighters both iconic and obscure such as Gen-An, Kusaregedo (This is my choice!), Ocha-Maro, Rasetsumaru, Sieger, Nicotine, Rera, Mizuki, Gaoh, and Zankuro. Having this much variety will not please its default fanbase but also invites more newcomers into the series.
      2. Return the fatalities from Samurai Shodown V Special
      3. All the stages will have their own unique music as opposed to having the 2nd players characters theme playing in every stage.
      4. Keep arcade mode with the final boss and endings.
      5. Improved rollback netcode
      6. NO CRAPPY ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME GUEST FIGHTERS PLEASE!!! While I prefer more original fighters over guests, if I had to pick. I want actual good guest fighters such as Afro Samurai, Guts (Beserk), Lady Snowblood, D (Vampire Hunter D), Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja, Rayne (Bloodrayne), Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden/Dead or Alive), Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers), Bashimon (Darkstalkers), Taki (Soul Calibur), and Nightmare (Soul Calibur). I do not want to see losers from For Honor, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, Apex Legends, Raid Shadow Legends, or some Chinese mobile phone game ever in the series again.
      7. Shorter loading screens
      8. Huge roster and more content on the disc to make up its $60.00 price tag.
      9. Alternate costumes for the playable fighters.
      10. Allow both players to play multiplayer mode anytime they want as opposed to having the 2nd player sign in every time before the game even starts (that's really annoying with this game and something that wasn't an issue in the older games).
      11. Bring back the announcer from Samurai Shodown V Special.
      Again, this is what I want to see in a future Samsho game. I would love to hear your thoughts on how you would improve or add to the next game?

    I believe the Bust and Slash idea was cool and deserved another chance in the modern age. SS3 was so ahead of time inventing that, which literally doubled the amount of content of the game with ease. To me it's a way of expanding gameplay variety very efficiently.
    And more importantly we can kinda attribute to SS3 the introduction of "alternative versions" in fgs. After that, RBFFS introduced "ex chars"... KOF made their selection easier and truly popularized the idea... and even Capcom used the idea in MvSF and MvC1. Also personally i've always considered MK's "Variations" the next gen progression of that idea that was in "seed" form back in SS3. Even the selection of MK Variations is similar to the SS3 style (not hidden like FF and KOF's ex versions)

    To me a very fascinating part of that SS history is the SS rpg. That gives an idea of the franchise's health in the mid 90s (for outsiders and younger gamers) and at the same time the ambition of branching off genres, in this case based on the huge popularity of rpgs in the 90s.
    Even bigger companies like Capcom and Namco didnt make such things, and again SNK got ahead of them, as another example of their pioneering role at that time - but just underappreciated because it was a smaller company without global reach and with limited resources to realize all their ideas to the maximum potential.
    The only (kinda) comparable instance of branching off famous fgs in the 90s was MK Mythologies Sub Zero... but it was a cheaper game and a simpler genre. Rpg is a more sophisticated genre and a more challenging work.

    In this occasion of the anniversary celebration, what do you think that can be done better with the franchise currently? I started thinking that SNK could rerelease a revised version of SS. Not a big expansion like SS5S... Just a rebalance, a little polish to core system, new menus and hud (like SF5 did), improvement to the "ink graphics", maybe improvements to special effects, and maybe 1 new char. That looks easy to do right now (between work on KOF 15 and the new FF) and it would help in promoting SS's presence nowadays.

    samurai shodown 4 was and is still THE BEST 2d version of the game samurai shodown 5 would've fared well if they retained 90% of the fighting gameplay from samsho 4 and the rest of the 10 for additional content. I haven't played the 3d versions of the game but samsho 4 is the most stable fighting gameplay style of all the 2d iterations of the game. I think samsho 5 would've blasted its predecessor into oblivion if only it carried over the samsho 4 gameplay style.

    This video just cement my opinion that everyone did a better job to give Samurai Shodown exposure and media coverage it deserves than anything SNK could have done better for the series ever since it's brought back (they did the opposite in fact). Literally, others with given chars license manage to do more for the chars in their own way than it's own company. And now, It's Samsho 30th Anniversary and they only have a tweet and an illustration to give 🤦

  • @carlosaugusto9821
    @carlosaugusto9821 Před rokem

    SS3 was a kind of failure for the public, but it belongs to a complicated but also interesting period of fg history (95-97) when most companies were challenging themselves to reform their rosters. As if they were trying to show they can do new things well and not rely solely on their classic chars. But that creative challenge tragically had negative results in many cases. It was a kind of big scale movement or trend in the genre.
    When we pay attention, SFA1 (95) changed rosters and replaced some classic chars... but also FF3 (95), MK3 (95), KI2 (96), AOF3 (96), SF3 (97), TK3 (96). Maybe the only positive and well received results from that movement was TK3's roster. For all other games there was a considerable community backlash and then the immediate sequels brought back the omitted chars: SS4, RBFF1-SP, SFA2-3, UMK3...

  • @MrErick82

    the empty hand weapon grab 'parry' was in ss1.
    almost nobody liked ss3, 5 or 5 special.
    zero people played any of the 3d versions; they're not real. the rpg was awful. some ss characters appeared in snk vs capcom and capcom vs snk and they were okay.
    the best versions are 1, 2, 4 and 2018. the single best version is either 2 or 4 if you agree to not do infinite combos or spam the turn around attack. without caveats 2 is the best.
