- Samurai Shodown is considered as the first weapon-based competitive fighting game, the series was a word wild phenomena, that took the fighting community by storm in the mid 90's.
This video is the first part of a series that dive deep into the backstory of this saga, where we know a bit about the origins of its famous characters, like Haohmaru, Genjuro, Hanzo and Mizuki.

There is a manga I believe, have not read it at all though.
Is it just me or Does SNK have the best lore in fighting games? Sure, there's Guilty Gear & Blazblue but SNK pulled this stuff back when it was really difficult (or even necessary) to come up with a storyline in this genre.
The fact that this franchise was never made into a tv-14 anime series is a crime

This is great!! I’ve never seen a channel devoted to telling the full stories of my favorite video games,I’ve always enjoyed fighting games. Shodown is my favorite and I wish it could get a great anime,I’ve seen 2. 1 bad 1 good but this was so groundbreaking it should be given the respect of Street Fighter, my2nd fav and KOF/Fatal Fury is 3rd. Hopefully we can get some Terry Bogard from you. Love the intricate work you put in 😎

I know that Amakusa in SamSho is a fictional character based off the real Amakusa Shirō, but it still feels wrong how the did his character to turn to the help you f demons when he was willing to die for God. It comes off like an attack on the actual person or could just be a coincidence, I’m still new to Samurai Shodown and it’s lore but given Japan’s sour relations with Catholicism I’m not sure. Other than that good video!

So how does it all tie together with the Ninja Scroll anime since a few of the Samurai Showdown characters were seen competing?

They dont tie together, samurai shodown pulls from alot of Japanese lore/mythology as well as ninja scrolls. But thats basically what ninja scrolls is a story based on another story. I find that shit interesting myself.

My guess its from the console ports of SamSho V. The arcade versions didnt have the story bits.

both are supposed to be covered in _King of Fighters_ lore. considering it was Geese Howard who originally initiate the tournament way before Rugal, Kagura, NEST, Saiki, or Gustav.

What I find funny is Haohmarus rival is Genjuro but with Haohmaru being based off Musashi, shouldn't he rival Ukyo (who is based off Kojiro Sasaki)? Couldn't find a real life persona for Genjuro who even had anything to do with Musashi..
In the original game Ukyo was Haohmaru's rival but that idea was dropped in Shodown II when Genjuro was introduced.
No they werent.. Haohmaru wasn't rivaled in ss1..
@@DemonChildCC SNK says different. Also Ukyo was player 2 on the how to play demo. That's usually a good indicator who the protagonist/main character's rival is; most of the time.
Ukyo is just too pure to be a rival
To be fair the real life figures that the characters are based on can often be pretty loose anyway. As an example Musashi famously dual-wielded but in SamSho it’s Jubei that does that, not Haohmaru. They play it very fast and loose because ultimately regardless of what they make take inspiration from the characters are still original fictional creations at the end of the day.
Haohmaru was the one who beat Amakusa on his own. Nakoruru wasn't there.

This was uploaded around 2002-2003, the story hasn't been changed. Heck, the new SamSho is a reboot so they won't touch this canon.
