  • The red hind cull is underway on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in Scotland. Niall Rowantree has Robert Sajitz of Blaser to help him shoot his cull animals, and Robert has the new Blaser R8 Silence, with moderator integrated into the barrel. He tries it out during the cull.

    Why shoot deer?
There are more than two million red, roe, fallow, sika, muntjac and Chinese water deer in Britain’s countryside and semi-urban areas, the highest level for 1,000 years. Numbers have doubled since 1999, according to the Deer Initiative, the UK government’s deer agency.
Deer are an attractive and an important part of our wildlife. However, they have no natural predator in the UK so numbers must be sensibly and strategically managed to keep them in balance with their habitat and to prevent damage to crops, trees, woodland flora, gardens and other wildlife.
Deer cause £4.5 million-worth (Forestry Commission Scotland) of damage to plantations and other commercial woodlands in Scotland. Crop damage is estimated at £4.3m a year according to DEFRA, with the greatest damage on cereal crops in east and south-west England.
More than 8,000 hectares (Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology) of woodland with SSI status is currently in ‘unfavourable’ or ‘recovering’ condition due to deer impacts such as browsing and fraying. Deer can also influence the variety of wildlife in woodlands and other habitats by altering structural and plant species diversity. According to the University of East Anglia’s Dr Paul Dolman, that has resulted in a 50% decline in woodland bird numbers where deer are present, impacting particularly on nightingales, blackcaps, chiffchaffs and warblers.
Deer are susceptible to Bovine TB and may be responsible for the transmission of TB to cattle. They are also the likely driver behind the UK’s increasing tick population (Scharlemann et al 2008).
Happily, venison is a delicious meat. It is wild, natural and free range, and - almost fat-free - it is one of the healthiest meats available today. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Venison is high in protein, low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher levels of iron than any other red meat.

Blaser should use Niall for some television advertising,...that was very well said, and with a lot of credibility as well.
Great segment of management of these deer.

The knowledge and skill of the Stalker is easy to see, his calmness and ability to explain what is going to happen makes the job of the client much easier, it is no surprise that the Highland Stalkers and Ghillies were so sought after by the Army in past conflicts🇬🇧

I didn't buy the R8 as i am terrified of losing the mag and so the trigger as well.
    I have a left hand bolt R93 professional in 25-06,that I purchased in 2005.
It has an over barrell suppressor by Gunworks and topped with a Zeiss Victory 3×12×56.
I have easily shot 500 deer with it and many, many Himalayan Tahr (I live in NZ now ).I love my Blaser and will buy another soon.
    Good vid,thanks.

Blaser rifles are the best straight pull rifles on the market, practice on the range builds confidence, before you go out hunting,

Enjoyed watching every step. We treat our whitetail deer the same way over here. Good to keep the doe in check. Not saying everyone is discerning like that but we certainly try to be with our property.
What size area are you hunting? I assume all private land

Nice video up to the point where the Blaser add kicked in big time. There is a lot of very good equipment out there at a fraction of the price. I use a Tikka T3 lite and its a great rifle. I don't believe that if I spent £1K - £3K more it would allow me to do a better job. I think that you should make it very clear in the videos which equipment/suppliers/etc. are sponsoring you so that anybody watching understands what is an advert and what isn't.

EXACTLY!!!! It’s fucking boring! If you know anything about rifles you know there’s so much better out there for a fraction of the cost.... well said mate

These over the top adds are getting really boring... you don’t get the truth about products you get bullshit sales.
Tell you what.... I challenge BLASER to a long range test at bisley!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of their rifles on a real rifle range😂
