Paul O’Sullivan: SAPS and Hawks chiefs MUST GO after lifestyle audit shock

  • Ace forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan says SAPS National Commissioner Fannie Masemola and Hawks boss Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya are unfit for service as both failed a lifestyle audit he conducted. He has written to president Cyril Ramaphosa urging the immediate suspension of SA's two top cops pending a formal investigation. In this interview with BizNews, O’Sullivan details his findings - and warns he will approach the court to remove the two if the president fails to act. According to O’Sullivan, Masemola was in a “parlous” financial state back in March 2022, but has gone from living beyond his means to having cleared all of his outstanding debt, save for the two outstanding judgments, while Lebeya had a judgment for a R3,125,848.23 tax debt registered against him at the High Court in Johannesburg on 2023-05-05. O’Sullivan also spells out the legal reasons why Lebeya’s appointment was “unlawful”. “Anywhere else in the world, these people would be in jail,” he charges.

I'm black and I wholeheartedly agree. For whatever reason I think we are just not ready for this stuff. Maybe it is the old crew that came from the bush and didn't grow up in a westernized world... and maybe in a new generation of black minds run things, minds that appreciate the finer things of life, are educated and are passionate about Africa... maybe things will get better, but for now 100%.. whites should run this show.

That’s the most stupidest thing I’ve ever heard black person say in a country like South Africa you clearly don’t know your history properly indirectly white people have been leading Africa look where it’s got us lack of education manipulation I could go on we just need good leaders they are there. You just need to find them and they are there.

To be honest, if apartheid had not happened, we would not be in this mess. Meaning that if everyone had been treated equally not because of the colour of their skin but as human beings withequal rights, we would be much further.
So, it is going to be a hard pill to swallow for, especially those who were marginalised, allowing previous oppressors to take control.
However, this is not condoning criminal behaviour or incompetence of our current leaders or those in strategic and high positions. Neither does it give them a pass to be involved in corruption.
The issue is that most of these people come from poverty, and everyone wants to get rich like yesterday.

I have had the misfortune to have to report a theft of jewellery. The lack of interest in opening a case was appalling. There were about 6 people behind the counter, including a Warrant Officer and a Sergeant. The Constable who took my statement took over 60 minutes to complete. It took 2 days for a detective to contact me. I have carried out my own investigations and fed the information back on a daily basis to the detective. It took 8 days for her to complete a "205" document and apparently book a vehicle to deliver the document to Durban (still have no idea if it been taken yet). Also handed over 3 items for fingerprints and I think they have been conveniently lost in the system. No wonder the public take matters into their own hands.

I usually had a copies of my ID certified at our local police station, usually there was a constable in the particular booth that asked for the ID and the copy then checked both and stamped and signed it, but the last time I went for the same service the booth was attended to by TWO Brigadier Generals and this happened, the first said to me "What do you want?" and the following happened-The second grabbed the copy from my hand stamped it and gave to number one who signed it! That is what SA is today.

I appreciate what this man is saying. I retired in 2019 from the police. I ve witnessed a lot of nipotism when comes to allocation of positions in the police. Gender equity has been wrongly used placing wrong people in very important positions. Like the gentleman has said, no command and control. It is worse with discipline. Commanders are even scared of their surbodinates because they ve onferioty complex since thet know they dont deserve the positions they ocupy. Most old police very experienced left before time mostly in 2019 because they were fed up with the way things are now done. When we meet members, they cry to say things were better when we were still there. Imagine how down are morals on the young members. I so wish this gentleman can un announced send a team to visit all commanders on the ground and evaluate them, he will be shocked with the level of incompetence and ignorance.
