Humans should urinate at least four to six times a day, but occasionally, the pressures of modern life force us to clench and hold it in. How bad is this habit, and how long can our bodies withstand it? Heba Shaheed takes us inside the bladder to find out.

Holding your urine for too long can weaken the bladder muscles over time. This can lead to problems such as incontinence and not being able to fully empty your bladder. Holding your urine for extremely long periods of time can also cause urinary tract infections due to bacteria build-up.

Class began at 9 am; restroom, lunch and play time from 12 noon to 1 pm, and back to class from 1 to 3 pm. So, a total of six hours in school, not counting travel time to and from school. “Holding it” for too long too frequently as a child partly caused me to develop bad bladder infections and I had to be on different medications for 2+ years and regularly have an Urodynamic evaluation- painful procedure where they insert a catheter and fill your bladder with water until your body forces you to release it to test bladder pressure. I also came very close to having a major surgery but thankfully the right combination of medications helped. Fun times.

I asked her permission and...she just slapped my face so hard. I was a small kid. I didn't say a word. I didn't tell my parents. I literally had no friends. Anyone going to school with any type of medical condition that makes them have to use the restroom more often, should get a note from their doctor, which should be given to the school's principal and respective teachers. Hopefully, the doctor's note will resolve any issues with the teacher allowing the student to use the restroom when needed.

I had an elementary teacher who always said no to kids when they ask to go to the bathroom. Especially after the break. "You can't go now, because you had a break and you should use your breaktime to go the toilet. Wait untill the next breaktime" she always said. At a very young age I knew it was wrong but what can a kid do against sick minded adults? + As if I chose voluntarily to go to the toilet after the break. One day I just couldn't hold it, so I asked and she said "NO". So I decided myself to not listen to someone else when it comes to your own health. So, I went to the toilet and the next day I was punished and I was invited to PRINCIPAL with my parents.

The problem is more that people don't drink plain water/tea but sugary drinks that have other side effects on your health, rather than not drinking enough. Also a lot of people are so disconnected from their body awareness that they think they're hungry/have an appetite for something undefinable, when they're actually thirsty, so a reminder every now and then is actually not all that bad :)

@@karlostjuroukei1802 I'm pretty sure when we are in our spiritual bodies we won't need to use the bathroom. I'm not sure on that though, due to their not being anything in Scripture concerning how the Spiritual bodies actually work. I know they're everlasting and don't ever perish. But to know how they actually function, yeah, that's not written..

Is there any explanation on why our bladder can hold when we rush to the toilet but as soon as we step on the toilet floor, our bladder burst immediately even though we haven't even reach the toilet bowl?

Yeah, like the others said your eyes sense the toilet and that relays a signal to your brain telling your bladder to get ready to release. But you do this so many times that even when your not *in* the bathroom your brain already sends that signal to your bladder because it already knows you're going to go.

    Yes, Cas. Yes, I do.
Yeah, but in surgery, we can't always just run to the bathroom. Not every hospital has the staff to make sure no one holds it for too long.
