      @@cooltubeish You are so right. Francome was a shining light in the use of the whip, he never over-used it.

    Thanks for posting. Where we can access or purchase some of these great chases from the 1970s. Obviously the BBC still has these archives as we were able to see Crisp 1971 Champion chase. Would love to see full coverage of 1975 king george vi chase and 1975 and 1977 cheltenham gold cup.

    How the hell is Francome not the main presenter of channel 4 racing?

      A white hetero sexual man with a personality and an opinion is a no no these days.

    Difficult to know how Michael Dickinson made the weight as a jump jockey for as many seasons as he did.

    Silver Buck wasn't "at the peak of his career" in Bregawn's Gold Cup. The best three mile chaser shouldn't have run in that race as he was nowhere near 100%, and it was only his class that got him so close.

    Got to disagree re Dawn Run's Gold Cup win. It wasn't her heart that got her there it was Wayward Lad never getting up the hill (again)

    • @charliebear1436
      @charliebear1436 Před 2 lety

      Wayward Lad got up the hill in his own time. The problem was they rode him as though he didn't get the trip but had a turn of foot. Both assumptions were wrong, he was an out and out stayer. The deciding factor in that race was Dawn Run's mares allowance.

    This is obviously just based on 1970 onwards as Arkle would be Number One head and shoulders above the rest if he includes the 1960s as well.

      These are his own personal picks regardless of who officially was best, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

      @Steven Finch to give you a clue Jay Trump narrowly beat top weight Freddie in the 1965 Grand National and Freddie was being beaten out of sight in receipt of two and half stones by Arkle......Arkle was on a different planet to anything seen before or since with Flyingbolt and Mill House the only pair worthy of mention in the same breath even!
