  • Solo off-grid boondocking at the beach. Two nights in the Cape May area, one night a little further north.
Beautiful beach sunsets, kayaking at Belleplain State Park, and cooling off in Maple Lake! Capped off this trip with a ferry ride across the Delaware Bay on the Cape May - Lewes Ferry.

Hi, I enjoyed your video. I'm a Minivaner based in South Jersey. You brought back lots of good memories from the old days, thank you. I used to live at Lake Nummy (Pronounced Lake Numby as in Comfortably Numb.) in a pop up camper. I lived there in the off season so I had the place to myself. It's a good place for Star Gazing, the Astronomy Club meets there several times a year. Speaking of beer, Dog Fish Head brewery is only a couple of minutes away from the Ferry landing in Delaware. You can stop and buy a flight to sample several of their beers. Cheers and safe travels. :)

Shavian thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I was surprised at how many tucked away little secluded spots there were in South Jersey - I definitely enjoyed that trip. Thanks for the tip about the brewery! Take good care and happy new year!

Loving your videos. I live in Cape May County. In the beginning of your video I knew exactly what road you were talking about that was closed. And I knew exactly what road you were talking about that you ended up on that first night. And I’m not surprised at all that you got the knock. I am surprised you didn’t get any more knocks Because all of our municipalities here in Cape May County are very weird about cars parked in wildlife management areas. We have some strange ordinances such as no outdoor cooking with an open flame. Lol. My very first camping trip 20 years ago was in bellaplain site 215. Took my kids there a lot while they were growing up but the ticks got so bad that we started to expand and explore and that’s how we ended up going to Assateague all the time. I’m glad you got to see the “cement ship“ and the sunken ship. Fairly new to your channel and catching up on your videos. Thanks for sharing!

Margie, that's so cool that you know the places in this one. This is the one and only time that I've gotten "the knock" but it was deserved - I was trying to overnight in that little park that says it is closed after 10 pm. A lot of places put up signs like that but don't enforce them - this jurisdiction did! Do you know that place that I filmed that was across from the WWII tower? Belleplain was a really nice park - I enjoyed my impromptu kayaking trip there!

Hiya Mike. The first place was David Douglass Sr. Memorial Park. Don't try to overnight there - they are serious about the signs that say closed after 10pm. That night, after getting kicked out, I went over to street parking on Beach Ave in Cape May, just down from the Sunset Pavilion. Was pretty quiet and no one bothered me so it was a good night, if a bit "urban." The second night I stayed at the Beaver Swamp Fish and Wildlife Area. North of Cape May but by less than an hour if I remember right. It was down a rough road, but that made it feel pretty remote. Its a nice tucked-away spot and no one bothered me there at all. The third night I stayed in the old parking lot across from the WWII Lookout Tower off of Sunset Blvd in Cape May. Had a good night there, some local kids set off some fireworks but that's it. In the morning, there were some folks walking dogs but no one was bothered about me being there. Off of the corner of that parking lot is the area I show in the video that looks awesome for boondocking. When I was there in the summer of 2021 there were no signage saying you couldn't. Hope this helps!

If you are talking about setting up a camp in the same place for several days with obvious "I'm camping here" vibes, I think it would be a tough area for that. If you are willing/able to be kind of low key and not stay too long in one spot, I think you can make do with some of the spots I found or ones like them. Kinda depends what kind of experience you are looking to have. If you want free, remote, semi-stealth - it can be done. Hope this helps!
