      Something about the Nitro, it’s addictive! I used to run electric before but I got out of the game, and once I decided to come back I bought a set of two Traxxas trucks and both were Nitro, probably never going back!

    Had a Jato with a .21TM engine. I used a header for an HPI RS42 and it worked beautifully. Had a Buku pipe on it and was consistently running 70 - 71 mph. Sold all my 10th scale stuff when I got into 5th scale. This video makes me want to get another one. I miss that truck.

    Revisiting the Jato Revisit. EB Mods OS 18TM with HPI rotostart(small lite one way hex brg, TRA#4011). It fills the gap between the 3.3 and 21 offerings, and walks right away from them. Probably 30+ gallons across that motor since about 2006. It was raced in a literace Ballistic Chassis Revo for a very long time. I had to put 2 oz on the front of the Jato, for some semblance of control. Rest in peace Ed Bridges, your talents are missed greatly, something they will never know. Nitro burner since Team Associated took it's very first steps. Preheat your pullstart/Rotostart/Starter Box/ motor boys, and any miniature nitro motor in general, for all it's days. Wait till you see about 220° 230° on the temp gun before attempting to start,, for all it's life. Your welcome. Thank you for the vid, I spotted what I needed and had seen before.

    Just getting around to rebuilding a jato I got for $150 from a guy who swapped every part to aluminum. I lightened it with rpm arms and added more stock plastic and want to put an O.S .21 on it. Never had an O.S and look forward to seeing the difference.

    • @edrc1793
      @edrc1793  Před 2 lety

      I’ve bought a Jato or two for that price usually with a wreck that needs fixin but I take the opportunity to do the upgrades as well. The O.S. Will be smooth and more torque, even without gearing up for more speed it makes the truck more fun have the added grunt. This truck at those high speeds is only good for straight line (not saying that’s a bad thing either 😁)

    This is so cool bro!!.. I was simply looking through rc videos and thought to view yours my buddy had a Jato 3.3 and I always thought it was cool I myself have 2 Revo 3.3s and 1 T Max 33 but here's the kicker I grew up in Aurora and when I saw where you were running them my jaw dropped because my dad used to bartend at Hap's north end tap and right over dekings tavern and I would always bring either my Revo or my t Max and run them along that very same stretch of Trail off hankes road and I sat at the same spot you were sitting while running my trucks and still have a lot of friends in that particular area so if you see someone running a Revo around over there this coming spring you know it's me! I think with gearing that OS 21 TM will squeeze some more mph , the pinch tends to be really tight on these as well after a gallon or so they really go hard , Ive got one a new one on the way with ceramic bearings and ports cleaned up for max hp from rbmods , he is really good if not the best at modifications to nitro engines.

      What’s the pinch?

  • @kylejaynes5785
    @kylejaynes5785 Před 4 lety +2

    The whole thing with engines running fast while having 5+ gallons through them is because the compression is low meaning the resistance in the engine is low which is why it can hit much higher RPMs but not have as much low end torque. If you ever heard the saying "it ran better than its best before it died", this is what it means. Usually those engines start to have tuning issues and eventually lose so much compression they arent usable.

      I did not do a comparison, I don’t think it would affect the top speed much but it will affect the takeoff performance and the corner handling. I replace the easy start on all my Traxxas vehicles just because of the weight savings. Also the weight you are removing is placed very high up on the car so it affects the nimbleness of the cars/trucks.

    The speed difference assuming gearing is same is just due to the fact that the 3.3 is small block that revs higher, may have less power but peak rpm will be higher than the os so itll spin those wheels faster reaching a higher top speed. That wing was already on that model when I bought it (used). It looks like a buggy ring mount modified to fit. I don’t know what one it’s off of and I don’t think it was meant for the Jato. Wish I knew, if I figure it out I’ll share the info.

      I really like the Jato platform. It’s the only capable nitro stadium truck out. Used to be a popular category.
      I was extremely happy to see the Jatos refreshed, even if it’s only the body change it means they are keeping it around for another couple years at least. That’s one big thing I give props to Traxxas for, all my traxxas cars are easy to keep going because parts are always around, that’s what I consider a good investment.

      Ed RC Jato will be years and years to come and is a popular product said by Traxxas. I get 59 mph to close to 62mph and the suspension is so great. Hope Traxxas make another new nitro because the last nitro release was the Nitro Slash on 2013.

    • @edrc1793

      The fuel is bones 30/10. I tune for smoke, as long as there’s a nice visible stream I know the motor is seeing some oil. I always go richer then tune towards lean, you can always back out an 1/8 if you begin to loose performance or reliability or stop seeing smoke.
