Right at the 11-12 second mark, on the left is a very small apartment building. My brand new Bride and I lived there for two years. Efficiency, living/bed/kitchen all one room and a bathroom. A whopping $185 a month!! 1970-1972. In 1972/73 I Sold cars AT Glacier Lincoln Mercury and John Stepps Friendly Ford. Great times!! I lived in Alaska over 50 years, southeast and southcentral as well as Fairbanks. Retired and old now, living in the southland. Thanks for the video, retired ol ron.

Has a surprisingly large, solid looking business district. And the suburbs look almost European, a mixture of houses and apartments, not miles and miles of single family homes. I imagine the reason for this is it's much more expensive to heat 3000 sq ft McMansion in Fairbanks than it is in Peoria. There's a definite edge to the city as well, at one point you come to the end of a road and you're looking over an empty wilderness. No suburban sprawl here.

I just made a short walk up the hill to the ANCHORAGE WESTWARD (now the Hilton) and I was at work. I worked in the maintenance department. It was a busy place back then. (mid 1970's) A number of major airlines used it for their flight crews: NORTHWEST ORIENT, UNITED, JAL, etc.. I saw President Fords motorcade arrive at the hotel from a 12th floor room in the original section. Didn't see him, though. That was 1975 I think. My memory ain't what it used to be.

    I lived there from 1963 untill1966.
I was driving on 4th ave when the 1964 quake struck .stopped about 50 ft from the collapse of the street. Still loved the people and the state.

When I was young I visited Alaska and met the president of the bank of Alaska. Rasmussen if I recall. I was lucky cause my father was the bank
Founders roommate in college. I got to go
To the top floor of the bank in Anchorage. Loved the state. Wish to go back again. 😊

Hey lady thanks for this wonderful music and video of Anchorage. Just visited Barrow en route Anchorage downtown and midtown. I loved the slower pace of the environment, scenry and even air is fresher. Met some nice locals i got stuck in the middle of hiking route half way to Hilltop Ski Area. Kind enough to gave me a ride to Ted Steven Airport. Some patrol security guys at the hospital on Tudor were however very inconsiderate, very rude to the visitors and knowing i am here to visit and possibly getting medical care. Hey Alaska i missed you i might be back just one or two rude people in Alaska doesnt change my perception about the land. Fresh air, nature, wild life and free of sales tax.

Thank You !!! This settles it. I will absolutely be visiting and consider a move. As a lifelong Michigander who LOVES the colder months, this appeals to me FAR more the the long hot humid summer here. I've thought of Alaska for many years and now that I've hit 50, it's time to check it out. I love Michigan but get sick of the constant complaining about winter from most people who live here. They all want to go south. I want this. I know Alaska has a summer also but from what I've learned, its not like here. Any feedback on how a disabled person can visit as cheap as possible would be great !! Looking forward to booking the trip !

You might just love it because summers are warm without the humidity. 65-70 degrees is average during summer. It can get hotter (80) but usually those days are few and far between

I was born in Anchorage,Alaska and it is an incredible State to live in. The King Salmon are about 6 feet long and weigh up to 75 - 80 pounds. The Moose are everywhere throughout all 4 Seasons. Eagles everywhere. Black Bear and Brown Bear idiots in 4×4's in ditches thinking they can do a 100 in 4 wheel drive. I believe they still do homesteading if you plot your land and live off said land for a year it's yours I believe I could be wrong been a while since being there.

Lived in Alaska back in the 70s. Not sure what your disability is or physical limitations but have you thought about taking trains to see alaska? Anchorage to Seward and to Mt Denali. Tours to Portage Glacier, Mat - Su Valley. Get a rental car for a day and go up to Artic Valley( ski area) across from Ft Richardson outside of Anchorage for an amazing view of The Sleeping Lady( outain) and Cook Inlet. Camping( take off mosquito spray with you) KOA? , FYI, cost of living is pretty expensive up there. Good luck.
