  • From the Opera Theatre of the Sydney Opera House in August 1981, Joan Sutherland sings the scene of Marguerite de Valois from the opening of Act Two of Meyerbeer's LES HUGUENOTS. The two Maids of Honour are Beryl Furlan and Rosemary Gunn with Anne-Maree McDonald as Urbain. The orchestra in this performance is conducted by Richard Bonynge.

    Thanks so much for posting this. I heard her sing this scene at a London gala in the same year. The voice was spectacular!

    Unbelievable! This is even better than the commercial tape from the Australian Opera. I assume it’s from the same run of performances.

      This performance is nine (9) years earlier than the commercial Farewell video.

    Gorgeous. but too static. I know it is a big scene for Marguerite.
