This is a segment from the TV program "I've Got A Secret", where the contestant is Betsy Palmer's First Boss. In a world of "Phonies", this seems very genuine!
Many years ago, Betsy Palmer was in our town appearing in a production of Gigi. I was with a friend in the lobby of the hotel where she was staying. Betsy came in after the show, with members of the show's chorus. She spent a great deal of time standing and chatting with all of them. I overheard one of the actors say that his parents were on their way to meet him. He said that they would love to meet her, but as it was late in the evening, he wouldn't keep her. She stayed in the lobby with the group, and when his parents arrived, she spent a lon time talking with this man's parents. She had that beautiful smile the entire time. The sweet and caring person you see on this show was the real deal. RIP Betsy!❤😊
I was 6 years old, and I loved, loved, loved Betsy Palmer. I wanted to marry her. Everybody was very sweet to me, and didn't tell me I was seeing her in 20-year-old taped programs. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, BETSY!!!!!!!!!!
I learned much later that Betsy Palmer and I are from the same home town. I regret not having to meet her and talk about the good ole days. Rest in peace Betsy Palmer.
Growing up of course, I never realized how stunning she was. I agree with the description too. Her smile seems very genuine. I wonder how many people have even heard of shorthand today.
It would be interesting to see who many "Google Searches" were made during or right after viewing this video clip by people wanting to know what the heck is Shorthand?
It would be very pleasant to see actresses that were as wholesome and down to earth as Betsy was these days. I remember her as a TV anchor on the morning news. She was a wonderful actress and person. I am glad that in Friday the 13th her son's name was Jason. She will always be missed!
When I was growing up, I saw Betsy Palmer on all manner of game shows & talk shows. So when the first Friday the 13th film came out with her starring in it, I thought the film can’t be too bad if it had Betsy Palmer in it. I think that’s what the producers were hoping for because who saw that first twist! Lol
After watching this video clip, its hard to believe that Betsy Palmer would play a serial killer about 20 years later in the original Friday the 13th movie.
Is the woman who intro'd the show Janis Paige? If this episode aired 30 March 1960, it probably is her, IMDB has her listed as a guest (as opposed to panelist) on that date. The wink at the end knocks me out!
I knew when this game started, there was no way they were going to get away with this. They should have complete covered his head with a sack or something.
That was a good synopsis, np and, I appreciate you sharing. This post eclipses my previous number one: "Henry Morgan has owed me $2.00..." I, too, think Miss Palmer was Beautiful, Intelligent, Articulate & Sophisticated, indeed!(what, 'bias?'-lol!) I, now, pose a question: was not Mr. X's mask about, as useful, as the ones worn, by Bruce and, Dick, in the "Batman" series?(oh and, their voices didn't change, either. "Holy, Clueless, Gotham City!")...now, pulling tongue, from cheek. ;) This format, too, isn't right, for such an instance: I feel the continuation, of questioning, should have ceased, when Miss Palmer recognised the contestant. $0.02. While, I think, of it-guess, which "situations", were my favourite, on "Truth, Or Consequences?" Oh and, did we notice, who applauded, when Mr. Moore had introduced the panel? Miss Palmer, obviously, was delighted, to be a member, of same. Great, also, at, "Password", as I recall. R.I.P., wonderful woman.
They should have known that there would be a good chance that Betsy would figure out who he was, so they should have put a bag over the guy's head rather than just using a mask over the eyes.
@@watchman1178 Agreed, Watchman. Anyway, the money they pay the contestants was peanuts. Can you imagine someone today winning a small sum of money. Yuk. [But maybe they go home with a bottle of Bufferin."]
@@ralphturner3798 Yeah, the prize money on both "I've Got A Secret" and "What's My Line?" was abysmal. Only on the Goodson/Toddman show "To Tell the Truth" could contestants potentially win even a fairly decent amount. 4 incorrect answers (which didn't happen very often) would allow the 3 contestants to equally split $1,000 dollars. Still not much money, though.
I am surprised that Betsy did not recognize her first boss even with that mask he wore. She worked for the B&O railroad sometime between her 1944 high school graduation and her 1951 start in television. This episode aired in 1960 so only 10 to 15 years had passed.
@@jaybee5659 Thanks for the information about when she died. It’s so sad, though. My husband passed away in 2013, and I can’t believe it was that long ago. We would have been about 15 at the time this was first aired. We met when we were 16. Someone said she graduated from high school in 1944, the year we were born.
Betsy Palmer was a very good actress I believe she played the mom in the Friday the 13 movies she was Jason’s mom I believe but she was very very pretty and don’t forget the cigarettes
This is the only show that I can remember that the announcer came out with a cigarette lit in his hand. I know that the main sponsor was Phillip Morris, but for crying out loud!
Gary Moore must have been a very heavy smoker not to be able to refrain from smoking for the thirty minutes that the show lasted. What a poor example he was to the viewers. What would people think if a religious minister was smoking throughout his church service, or if all members of Congress smoked throughout their congressional sessions.
That was definitely a different time. One of the major tobacco companies sponsored the show, so I am quite sure he was encouraged, or even required, that he smoked constantly during the show. I recall seeing on one episode, the contestant had a young boy with him, maybe 7 or 8, and he jumped up, pointed at Gary and shouted "You're going to Hell for smoking!" Everything was live back then, so by the time it happened, it was too late to stop it before it aired. Of course there was total chaos on the set, and Gary said something to the effect of "there will be a lot to talk about back in Richmond over this". Right afterwards Henry Morgan lit up and said they are normally not allowed to smoke during the show, but he did anyway to make a point. Like I said, it was certainly a different time.
Oh brother, people smoked everywhere even in hospitals. On the Honeymooners they were smoking in hospital when Ralph was gonna give Ed a transfusion, even the Flintstones did a Winston commercial smoking out in back of house while Wilma and Betty did yard work.

Betsy Palmer was so happy to see this man...beautiful to see her appreciation. 💖
The sudden realisation on her face was priceless....... such a sweet moment
It is so touching how warmly and genuinely moved she was..

She was absolutely adorable.
I had a crush on Betsy Palmer as well before I knew what a crush was.
I WAS 7 OR 8 THEN I WATCHED PALMER MOVIES FIRST TIME
shame Henry Morgan is so patronizing to her.
We all wanted to marry her.
Betsy Palmer was adorable

Betsy was just as cute as she could be! I just love her personality. So warm and fun. 🤍

Betsy Palmer seems like such a lovely woman, in character as well as physically.
I love Betsy!

"And the thing...did you do...excuse us, please" LOL
Janis Paige is still with us as of July 29 2019.
That’s sweet how happy she was to see him
Great show
The episode when they had 5 policemen from the Boston PD on the show was cool
After watching this video clip, its hard to believe that Betsy Palmer would play a serial killer about 20 years later in the original Friday the 13th movie.
I have long forgotten the name of my first boss. I also forgot what he looked like, but he's probably long deceased (the manager at a Taco Bell).

How about blindfolding the panel?
Betsy would nnnnnnever be able to keep a surprise birthday party secret!! HA!
one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen! I just adore her. I watch this show every nite.
I consider her to be a great game show panelist.
She was extremely beautiful, and she wasn't even the Miss America of the panel. LOL!
Love Betsy
Those were the days
Very cool!
rest in peace bets....

You know who was everyones favorite in that B&O office, no doubt.
They should have known that there would be a good chance that Betsy would figure out who he was, so they should have put a bag over the guy's head rather than just using a mask over the eyes.
Garry should've given him the entire $80, because on these shows a panelist always disqualified themselves if they knew who the contestant was.

Would it have killed them to give the guy a better mask?
Live television in the 50s!
The other masks available may not have worked with his glasses. If his eyesight was as bad as mine, he'd be in danger of tripping up without them.

They usually put them in paper bags, which was also bizarre but at least covered their faces.
😆😂😆😂
Betsy Palmer and Bess Myerson are still alive, all these years later.
yeah they're not alive now tell me didn't you hear on the news
that was posted 5 years ago. She was at the time of his statement. Pay attention.
Betsy Palmer passed away in 2015 and Bess Myerson passed away in 2014.

What was the original air date on this episode?
According to "Kent's Game Show Trading Page", this episode aired on March 30, 1960

Thank you JB
Janis Paige is gorgeous.
Betsy Palmer was a very good actress I believe she played the mom in the Friday the 13 movies she was Jason’s mom I believe but she was very very pretty and don’t forget the cigarettes
Of course she looked different when she was YOUNGER, she was in her 40's when she did Friday so yeah her face changed as yours will too.
Mrs. Voorhees was a total babe.
betsy palmer died last year
now 6 years ago :(
👑🤲🌴🌴😂
what is it Betsy says to her boss when she greets him....."how's mother and the ??????"
She asked him, "How's mother and the kids and all?"
Too bad there isn't on here the episode where Betsy first meets Mark Goodson.
“Don’t you remember I harassed you in the back!”
This is the only show that I can remember that the announcer came out with a cigarette lit in his hand. I know that the main sponsor was Phillip Morris, but for crying out loud!
@3:13 ...."Oh! my Lord!! so young. so pretty. what monster could have done this"
(Also the same face she made right before she lost her head.)
It is not as if the sponsor is Winstons! Chain smoker Moore, cigarette in hand, eventually succumbed to the habit.
SO HOW DID MYERS NOT HAVE INCOME FROM THE bufferin

I misstated things a little- I was able to find the clip on. Enjoy! czcams.com/video/KEHyWjq3QcM/video.html

not as good as WML
True that.
