    Interesting to see these big farms in western KY. Here in NW Iowa anything over 2000 acres is considered pretty big. Majority of farms under 1500 acres. Most operations around here are using machinery thats 10-20 years old.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 3 lety +2

      The key thing here is the crop rotation. It needs big machines to move fast. Corn is followed by wheat and after wheat is harvested soybeans are double cropped in. So if you have 2,000 acres of ground you can crop 3,000 acres of grain in a year.

    On average one of these machines with a 410 bushel grain tank processing 5000 bushes per hour needs to unload the grain tank about every 5 minutes unless the calculator function on my computer is working incorrectly. Given that a grain truck weigh a total of 80,000 lbs legally I believe and corn weighs 56 lbs a bushel, more or less about 1100 bushels of corn would mean it would almost take 5 trucks to haul away that much corn. That is amazing how fast they are able to handle that much material and how much coordination it takes to keep all that grain being handled to keep the machines on the move.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Před 3 lety +1
