- Richard Linklater’s new film, ‘Last Flag Flying’, was released last weekend and expands to more theaters this weekend in honor of Veterans Day. The film set in 2003 stars Bryan Cranston, Steve Carrell and Laurence Fishburne as Vietnam veterans who re-unite to help Carrell bury his son, a young Marine whose just been killed in the Iraq War. In this exclusive interview at Collider studios, John Rocha sits down with Richard Linklater to discuss the themes of Last Flag Flying, clarify if it’s a sequel to Hal Ashby’s ‘The Last Detail’, and hear Linklater’s thoughts on what his film says about patriotism.

thank you Richard Linklater for being one of the most orignel voices in the film industry today
Usually when you see directors of his stature they come off as larger than life but Linklater seems like the cool Uncle that gives you an extra burger at the barbecue
One of my favorite directors ever
Richard Linklater is my favourite living director. Wonderful filmmaker.
Great Interview! I loved the conversation vibe that it took rather than a simple question-answer type of interview. Especially when it is with one of my favourite directors and about such an important subject. Great job Collider and John Rocha!
One of the absolute best, period.
Rocha and collider making it big! First Del Toro and now Linklater. Great interview
i've seen all Richard's movies and i will do it again
Linklater is the man! Fellow Texan - great interview
Good interview : ) Rocha rules!
One of the best!
What an awesome director, the product was a beautifully crafted jewel of a movie.
As a vet of the same generation as the three main characters represented, I was specially moved by the script and the acting.
Congratulations are in order for Mr. Linklater and to all those involved in the project.
Last flag standing :Rusell-jay :Gould. You tube.
I was in the Marines (not to be a Rocha) and id say i'm pretty conservative, but this was a great interview, made me start tearing up thinking of some of the people I served with who are still here and those who aren't. I can't wait to watch this movie. ( I spent a night in the brig after a night out drinking heavily, all I remember is needing to piss so bad and my SSgt screaming at me and the other Marines I was with haha, that SSgt later became a Warrant Officer and my Officer In Charge (OIC) that dickhead still remembered me and it sure sucked ass making all those "Zen Gardens" around the barracks. lol)
Did you get to see it?...Watch your six...:)
You'd figure after Waking Life; Richard would find it difficult to raise the bar or at least sit on it...His body of work is very poignant and his brilliance draws in the best of the actors...
