    Love your videos man! Just a lil tip from a guy who's been soldering for 15 years. Don't hold your iron on the contacts so long. Soon as your solder touches it should melt almost instantly, then just pull the iron off. It's very easy to burn up a pot or switch.

      There is a special place in hell for the inventor of phillips head screws. I can understand using them 50-100 years ago, but we have so many screw heads available that won't strip as easy (square-head, hex-head etc), ESPECIALLY on something like a guitar or a computer case, which can reasonably be expected to be re-opened every once in a while). If I were to build a guitar, I would use square-head screws, and the customer would appreciate the attention to making maintenance/upgrades easy. OK, rant mode off... 🤬

    I built the same kit. I did upgrade the Nut to a Tusq Nut because I kept getting a Sitar Sound even after some nut slot work on the original nut. I also upgraded the tuners because they’re kind of cheap. I did leave the stock pickups in. I like them, so hey - I kept them.

  • @donald-parker
    @donald-parker Před 5 lety

    Nice job! Guitar looks and sounds great. I'm quite impressed that the cheap trem seems to be staying in tune too. At about the 8:15 mark you are soldering the pickup grounds to the volume pot ground. This would have been a good spot to use some heat shrink tubing. You don't want that open ground floating around if there is any chance it could touch one of your pickup's hot wires. I've never been a big fan of tuneomatic bridges with solid metal saddles - especially with a trem. Another great upgrade option would have been to replace the bridge with one that has roller saddles. On the subject of strap buttons - if the holes were not pre-drilled, I would like to get some pointers on where to place them to eliminate neck dive. Thank for this - it has been an interesting journey!

  • @bluselephant
    @bluselephant Před 5 lety

    Just want to say 500 bucs in upgrades is easily done. I started a build and Mastery tremolo and bridge is 350. You can build a guitar for low cost, for mid, or high. You get what you pay for usually. I need help occasionally to and that costs me. Im no great builder just want the best when im done. And the guitar put together will be worth the. time effort and money by giving sweet tone in a dependable. So i will go the extra mile on any guitar i decide to put my heart into. I want it to give. Imo a guitar can only give as well as its made to give. Im enjoying this build.

Knobs are really chip strat instead of the knobs you got. Neck fit with the body is loose and wiggly. I guest Ill buy a fender tremolo and arm.

  • @BaconatorJames
    @BaconatorJames Před 3 lety

    I think EVH had the right idea. Take the most comfortable guitar (arguably), the Stratocaster. add the best pickup (arguably), the Humbucker.
    After this, the goal should be top quality electronics & components (tuners, dials, trem & bridge, nut, strings).
    After that, the goal should be to get diversity of tone - more pickups.
    Has anyone made a top quality Strat with 2 humbuckers, 2 single coils and a P90? That could save you a ton of money in guitars. Find a comfortable one, get all the tones in one. I think I just described Relish's approach, but I'm not thinking about hot-swappable but rather modular. How many pickups can be stacked between the fretboard & the bridge while still retaining their tone?

    Using solder as a twist tie was a good idea lol. But most of us who do a lot of soldering would use our own quality leaded solder anyways. But for a real novice that was a great touch.
    Edit: A decent solder station is much better than a low wattage soldering dollar store iron. Yes it's hotter but because of that your less likely to damage a component cause you won't need to keep the soldering tip on the component for more than a second or two. But with low wattage irons it takes so long to heat up that the heat transfers to the whole component which makes it more likely to damage it. It doesn't have to be expensive the knock off 937D+ solder stations on eBay are light years better than a cheap weller. They heat up within 30 seconds or less and have temp control. I paid $30 for mine and haven't used my 40w wellers since.

    Solo makes amazing kits. I got a spalted maple LP after seeing Brad's videos. Next is a Solo flame maple SG.

    I don't suppose that this giveaway is worldwide. Is it?

    Never been a huge fan of Jazzmasters. But, you have begun to change my mind (your playing has had a lot to do with that). Solo appears to make a very nice kit with good quality control. A bright 50's color would be my choice for my kit if I build one. The stock pickups sound really good. Looking forward to your comparison video. I don't do Instagram, so good luck to those who enter the giveaway. God bless and rock on! 😎🎸👏

      Daniel Boccuzzi dang that is a lot but before I start buying more I need to get better at playing, I’m only 16 and I’ve been playing for 2 years, self taught, and can read sheet music but I’m not that good at improvising I own 1 of each, a uke, bass, acoustic, and electric
