"Flying Scotsman will steam off into the history books"
And, 60 years on, its still pulling in the crowds as much as it ever did.
Fascinating little glimpse of the abortive Westerham Valley Railway.
    Thanks, BB.

As a wee boy in Glasgow, I never wanted to be a train driver, I wanted to be a Signalman, and have a big train set to play with, years later I did, I became a relief signalman covering five boxes, I loved everything, from working the different systems, track circuit block, absolute block and r,et,b.also pilotman duties, crossing keeper, hand signalman as well, you never knew what you were going to be covering.

It's nice to see the Flying Scotsman's second tender. I have often wondered what happened to it after the loco returned from America.

It’s amazing looking back at old films from the 1960’s, it’s so wonderful seeing “Flying Scotsman” still going strong in the 2020’s and just as popular today, also with new build steam locomotives such as 60163 Tornado and on the horizon the P2 class “Prince of Wales” nearing completion, what would the commentator have to say about steam on the main line now??

The Gainsborough model of the ECML still exists and opens many times per year.

1968 was when mainline steam fully ended. 1955 was start of phase out of stream

Half a cwt of coal a mile!! No wonder there’s a climate crisis.

    • @gainsbourg66

Nonsense. Such ridiculous views threaten the running of steam in preservation. You have been brainwashed by what you see on your telescreen comrade. The world's climate has always gone up and down, and did so thousands of times before we even walked on the earth. Each time it changed in the past it had nothing to do with the level of Co2 in the atmosphere. We went through a much hotter period a few hundred years ago (the Roman Warm Period) and then a far colder period where people skated on the Thames for dozens of winters in a row - all before any coal burning industry.
I'm afraid the man-made global warming crisis is a scam, that sadly you have fallen for - but don't worry, you are not alone. It is a rather ingenious scam.

Diesel locos burn around two gallons per mile and emit nitrogen dioxide amongst other nasty things too!

    • @srfurley
      @srfurley Před 7 měsíci +1

“Nobody needs to give a Diesel a drink”? All of the early passenger ones needed water for their train heating boilers and some of them had water scoops to pick it up from troughs as steam locos did.

      there ain't a 'climate crisis'
the earth has had warm and cool phase's since its beginning
the current hysteria is all about limiting your (not their) consumption that's all

Never been a climate crisis, this was invented by layabout Green terrorist groups.
