  • These commercials aired on KTLA on June 12th, 1983
    1. Promo for "News At 10"
    2. Movie For A Sunday Evening Intro: "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea"
    3. Marineland (The world's largest oceanarium when it first opened in 1954, it was later purchased by Sea World in 1987 with all of the animals moved and the park permanently closed...where it lay unused and deserted for many years. It is now the site of a luxury resort)
    4. Kleenex Softique Tissue
    5. Hills Bros High Yield Coffee
    6. Beno's
    7. Movie For A Sunday Evening Commercial Bumper
    8. Lucky
    9. Nissan Sentra (Nissan was still in the process of dropping the Datsun brand name in America. By 1984 the Datsun name was dropped permanently)
    10. Harvey's Bristol Cream (Poor woman, she apparently has to go through life being permanently dubbed)
    11. Promo for "Wonder Woman" and "Kung Fu"
    12. Fab Fabric Softener
    13. Mazda B2000 Sundowner
    14. Sizzler
    15. Tab
    16. Movie For A Sunday Evening Commercial Bumper
    17. Jockey (With Jim Palmer)
    18. PSA
    19. Ralphs
    20. Blue Cross
    21. Movie For A Sunday Evening Commercial Bumper
    22. Miller High Life
    23. The Adventures of Conan: A Sword and Sorcery Spectacular (A live stage show based on "Conan The Barbarian" that opened on 6/18/83 at Universal Studios Hollywood and remained there for 10 years)
    24. Ortho Mattress
    25. Promo for "20 Minute Workout" (An iconic bit of 80's TV, but I would venture to guess that 90% of the viewing audience were teenage boys and young men who were not remotely interested in doing aerobics)
    26. KTLA Station ID
    27. Nissan Trucks
    28. Love My Carpet
    29. Return Of The Jedi Collectible Glasses at Burger King (After posting only a portion of this previously in Vol. 224 it's nice to finally post the whole ad. I would want the Jabba The Hutt glass)
    30. Control
    31. Movie For A Sunday Evening Commercial Bumper

Oh man, I actually miss Tab cola. They used to sell them at Giant Eagle when I used to be in Maryland before they finally got discontinued. I started really liking Tab during the 2010’s around the same exact time I became a fan of That 70’s Show.

4:19 - No offense to Gal Gadot, but Lynda Carter embodied the character so well, she will always be Wonder Woman to me.

I absolutely agree since Gal Gadot cannot act herself out of a paper bag. I feel the same way about the old Flash Vs the new one.

@EpicJasonX Man, do I feel that. I loved that John Wesley Ship Flash show in the 90s. And the Superboy show before it.
DC was kicking Marvel's butt on TV, cartoons and movies for so long. Look at them now, they're rebooting the entire movie franchise they could never get off the ground.
Can you imagine if they'd done a Superman and Batman movie with Reeve and Keaton in the early 90s?

Kleenex Softique Tissues- The moment of convincing the woman to use the Kleenex tissues in this commercial reminds me of the classic Dr Seuss story, “Green Eggs and Ham”.
PSA- I like how in the beginning of the commercial at 7:24, the plane taking off looks like it has a smiling face on it.

My aunt used to live in Florida and anytime we’d go visit she’d take us to the marine land they had there.

To the best of my knowledge, the two Marineland locations were not related to each other and just shared the name. Marineland of the Pacific advertised in this video closed in 1987 after being purchased by Sea World. Marineland of Florida is still in operation.

Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea-one of the inspirations for Seaquest DSV
Harvey's Bristol Cream-her date at the beginning was probably like ".. who else at this party has a weird sounding voice..?" 😆
Wonder Woman-Aquaman was too busy to save the Seaview
Kung Fu-i would've thought he'd have gotten the message after running out of bullets
20 Minute Workout-featuring Bess Motta a.k.a Sarah Connor's friend in The Terminator

I remember that Burger King ad of these glasses before seeing "Return of the Jedi." Also, the first time I've heard the name "Jabba the Hut." Also, a good time to see the best "Star Wars" movies in theaters.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  Před rokem +5

Jabba was mentioned by name in both "Star Wars" and "The Empire Strikes Back" where Han Solo explicitly says "If I don't pay off Jabba the Hutt, I'm a dead man" in one of the very first scenes in the movie.

@@80sCommercialVault Yeah, I recall first seeing that name (in the English captions) mentioned by Greedo. Also recall seeing a behind-the-scenes documentary which mentioned that outtake, which would later be added in the special edition.

I remember watching KTLA in the 90s when they showed Kids WB shows every Saturday Morning. It's cool to see KTLA back in the day before it became a WB (now CW) affiliate.
Also, those old Lucky still used the same commercial format well into the 90s. I believe it was also the inspiration for the Omega Mart ads you see on CZcams.

"Plastic Tumbler only in Massachusetts"? I'm wondering about that now if there was some sort of state law about it.

I if Tab was a Coke product was it a precursor to Diet Coke. I think I drank a Tab or two back in the day but don't remember when Diet Coke came around.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  Před rokem +3

Tab was Coca Cola's first diet cola product, first released in 1963. Diet Coke was first released in 1982. Tab wasn't replaced by Diet Coke, but produced in much lower quantities before being quietly discontinued in 2020.
