Game 1 was a coaches dream for Denver. They played solid D, took care of the ball, rebounded well, took good shots. Just seems like they'll play smarter ball with a deeper bench and have easier paths to victory. Against the Suns anyway.

Jokic is playing legendary basketball. He makes his teammates better, that's rare in today's NBA.
Isn't it cool to see how good he is even though he is not traditionally thought of as being athletic? That's why basketball is such a cool sport. Fundamentals and high IQ are also important.
Murray is always the most impressive Nuggets player in the playoffs. I like Jokic but Murray is the guy in these key moments. If they win a championship, they will make Jokic the Finals MVP anyway though.

They traded there defence and depth and got pounded on the glass and ayton so inconsistent
They’re missing 3 point shooting. Any rational person can see this. They took five 3s in a whole half. You can say what you want about other issues they have with rebounding/turnovers, but they shot five 3s in the first half and Nuggets shot 17. Suns starters shot a combined 10 3s for the game, Nuggets starters shot 28. That’s the difference. Look at game 1 against Clippers. Suns were 6-19 from 3 that game and lost. In this game, if you ignore the garbage time minutes, Suns made five 3s the whole game. No team is winning a playoff game with that kind of shooting.
@@teddylabarca4565 That's not the difference. If you want to look at the "rational" difference and impact of the rebounding/turnovers vs 3pt shooting:
The nuggets got 15 more possessions than the Suns from offensive rebounds and TOs. Suns shot 59% from 2 and that's not even counting the possessions where they got fouled. Their efficiency was fine, they shot a higher TS% than the Nuggets despite losing big. Given the number of possessions the Suns had, they would need to shoot 68.4% TS to win this game, which is an unreasonable expectation. With that amount of possessions, replace every 2 attempt with a 3, and they would need 18 more threes to tie the game. And that's assuming they shoot 59% from 3. And shooting more 3s isn't going give you more possessions or better your defense.
Meanwhile, if all they do is match Nuggets in possessions, 15 extra possessions, all they need to do is shoot 59% from 2 in those 15 extra possessions (which they did all game) and they tie the game. A much more reasonable expectation. Defense and rebounding/TOs lost them the game, it's wasn't not trying enough threes. To win the game with threes, they need to make 18 more threes in place of twos, at a 59% rate (an alltime great shooting night for a team). To win the game with possessions, they only need to match Denver.
Phoenix traded their bench to Brooklyn. They're gonna miss Mikal Bridges in this series.

Honestly I think Denver will destroy the Suns this series, and will also smoke the Kings or Warriors. The only match up I think will get interested is if it's Denver Vs. La. A finesse team vs. a physical team. I think the others teams are a good match-up for Denver while LA is a toss-up.

Nuggets in 5. I won’t be surprised if it’s a sweep 🧹!
Nuggets were getting practice jumpshots all game. In playoffs its not about contesting after, you have to make sure they don't have space to rise. Paul and Booker were picked apart by Murray, Gordon, MPJ. And nuggets also got more easier shots at the rim. When Suns' hard contested mid range jumpers stop falling, their offense stalls and they don't have rim pressure to generate easy looks. Nuggets in 6, but I wouldn't be surprised if they got it done in 5.
All that talk of booker's defense against westbrook led clippers with Kawhi and PG out. Suns defense (both POA and interior) was shameful.
Plus as the quarters progress Suns will get worse and Nuggets will look better because Suns don't have a bench and that 3-4 pts differential will turn into a double digit lead. KD and Booker can have an explosive night scoring 80 pts and they might steal a game or 2 but over the course of the series Nuggets will generate easier shots, however, Nuggets defense isn't something to write home about either.

@@zackneskov2006 As a neutral fan of bball, Nuggets and Lakers have been the 2 best teams in the WC. AD's defensive performance was one of the best ever I've seen live, complete domination. We are in awe when Curry hits 10 3s on offense, AD did something similar but on defense, Grizz just couldnt score, they were shook, never seen anything like this in over 2 decades. And the lakers are the best defense left in the playoffs as both Grizz and Bucks are eliminated. I would have loved the story line of Bron vs KD in the WCF but a bubble rematch of Lakers and Nuggets would also be really special. And they both are running on all cylinders.
Booker had 2 blocks and a steal. He was playing defense. The other guys werent. And the issue is that the suns lack the 3 ball and the nuggets are just hitting theirs.

Nuggets managed to maintain the number 1 seed without murray. Now that they have him back theyre unstoppable.
Just what I expected to happen, how so many people did not see it coming is beyond me. Yeah, Booker and KD are great and Ayton is pretty good and CP3 can be very good...but Ayton is still young and CP3 is almost 38 and they have no bench worth mentioning. On the other side, the Nuggets are all literally in their prime years for basketball with a good amount of experience but before any physical decline and Jokic and Murray are both great while Porter and Gordon are both very good players who present mismatch issues because Porter is 6'10" and Gordon is an athletic freak with good size. Then KCP is pretty good, good enough to cause a lot of damage too. And Nuggets have at least one bench guy who can come in and hurt you.
Denver is a team, built over time. Suns just bought a superstar and are trying to "gel" him in. The game is way past superstars. It's about the team and everybody chipping in.
And that is ultimately what basketball is supposed to be: the ultimate team sport.
Even Jordan had a solid team, coaches & system around him.
Yeah, Phoenix put that team together too late in the season, gave up to much to make it, have an aging point guard (maybe 1 or 2 great nights left in him, and he plays hurt often, not at a 100%). And the other new super star is getting up in age as well. Winning a title is a long haul trip. Denver is looking good to win the west.
DEN I wouldn't mind seeing winning the NBA Championship this season. I'm saying they will, but it could happen.

Denver like Boston has had injuries derail them the last few years with Murray and Rob Williams, but now they are both healthy and heading for the Finals.
I was playing NBA 2k23. Had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 blocks after half & Joker blew out his knee on a block. Out fr 2 weeks vs Celtics ealy n season. Beat Celtics by 10 w Nuggets, but really annoying when star player get's hurt in a fictional setting.
Hopefully everyone stays healthy in playoffs.

Chuck said some weird stuff... no one is trying to hide Devin Booker as a defender. He has transformed himself into one of the best defenders at his position.
The issue is the switching and the 2-man game between Murray and Jokic. It's almost impossible to defend. Especially when Murray runs hot.
Booker is an average to above average defender still far from elite
@@lawrencemcdonald9212 almost all his defensive stats and the eye test say otherwise.
He holds his opponent to a 43% FG in the RS and below 40% in the playoffs so far.
He is quick and strong, fights through screens and doesn't bite at most pump fakes.
Other than Jrue, Caruso, Smart, Mikel (who is usually a forward) and maybe Gary Payton 2, I can't think of anyone else that can defend on his level or slightly better as a guard.
It was hysterical to see all the know nothing ESPN "experts" taking Phoenix...I believe 12 of the 16 did.

Now that my Bucks are out, I dont really have a lot of investment in the playoffs anymore but I do know I would like a small market team to win it it. Unfortunetly there are no small market teams left in the East but the West has two in the Kings and Denver. I would love a Kings Nuggets conference finals. Both teams are great. I think i like the Knicks in the East since they have the best story and good for NYC.

Probably too early but Denver have length and they all can shoot. I really don’t see anyone beside Booker and Kd giving you consistent 20 plus. Meanwhile JM can go for 20-30 anytime. Mpj can give you 18-20 and Gordon could also give you 16-20 and I didn’t even mention jokic

Uhm, Jokic had 19 boards...pretty clear which one of them is going to win this battle as Jokic is in his prime and Ayton is still on the young side. And then Porter and Gordon will both get their boards, Murray had five board to zero for CP3, KD is not going to make up the deficit on his own.
