Jeezus.... that incident is now 40 years old, and people STILL talk about it! What a time for wrestling.
I remember being mad at Rod for hitting Snuka with a coconut as a kid. We absolutely loved Superfly.
You love a man who constantly beat the hell out of his girlfriend until he eventually ended up killing her? Wow..
They both worked in the Pacific northwest territory. Portland Wrestling, Saturday night, channel 12. The 70's, 80's were great.
Its crazy how a work in a semi scripted show was maybe the most memorable sporting related event of my childhood. This was so traumatic to 9 year old me....And Its also so conflicting to look at Jimmy and see he was a kind person who had one horrible night where he did something truly terrible. Hard to know how to feel about it.
Snuka was without a doubt one of the best athlete ever in wrestling.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Jimmy "Super Fly" Snuka, RIP to these Legends of Wrestling.
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper was and will forever be my favorite all time Pro Wrestler. His attitude, his antics, his swagger,. his style, and even his matches; this is what really turned me into a huge fan.
and I started watching in the early 70's.
@Fat Cat 👍👍👍

It's beautiful to hear about his love for Snuka. I use to watch Jimmy wrestle out of Tacoma, on black n white TV around 74_75.
He's literally a murderer. What's wrong with you..?
I met Jimmy back in 97. He was a really great guy.
Except for the whole “murdering Nancy” thing, of course.
@@DeeEllEffI'm so confused how everybody acts like that didn't happen. Even scrolling through these comments. And then also wrestlers themselves & WWE as a whole doesn't acknowledge it.
MY favorite wrestler of all time. Got me a Hot Rod shirt back on my I believe 10th birthday back in mid 80s and wore it to school and all my friendsl hated Piper, lol.
Piper was a great heel.
Piper snuka feud was great.
Should have made Snuka/Piper a Wrestlemania match
The Piper/Snuka feud never had an ending, it just fizzled out, why? How can a feud be great with out a great ending like the Muraco cage match from the year before?
I remember that Piper's Pit. I had already figured out that most of wrestling was a gimmick but it was like a magic show. You know it's illusion, but you enjoy it anyway if the magician is any good. Anyway, I remember that coconut catching Jimmy in the head and busting open. I was pretty stunned and thinking "Hold up..That looked like it didn't go as planned. That looked really real"
One of the best ever. Piper can never be replaced.
Piper = Stand up Dude. Took my kids to see him and couldn’t have been a nicer guy. Took so much time with everyone.
Hot Rod was always so good to fans.
Patient , kind , funny , and happy to talk to anyone who wanted to talk to him.
Still have my autograph from him .
RIP Hot Rod. We miss you.
And Superfly so deserved that coconut.
I do have to say as a young fan who is what's wrestling his entire life I look up to WWE Hall of Famers but no other shows and rowdy rowdy Piper and WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Superfly Snuka when Jimmy Snuka first appeared in professional wrestling I was not born I wasn't born when Roddy Piper first appeared either but every match that I've seen everything that I've seen with Mr Snuka and Mr Parker has been so amazing I can't help be a fan of both Rowdy around Piper in the late great give me something Jimmy Snuka to me deserves and should be an honorable member but the NWA wrestling hall of fame Jimmy stick is one of the greatest wrestlers of all times when Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper both got inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame different years yes but Jimmy Superfly snooker and Rowdy Roddy Piper or two of the greatest wrestlers of all time their Feud I went back so far I remember seeing a match that they had with SummerSlam Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper both did not win they'd be resorted to a double count out and a magic Survivor series that mattress only to a disqualification then the big match came up the Royal Rumble do you need to watch naked unliminated Rowdy Roddy Piper in the feud on yes Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka I miss and love you both I cannot wait till one day staying in the WWE Hall of Fame for you two great Legends will stand for the length of time
Nicest wrestler I've ever met and I've met a lot. Incredible, sincere-legend.
Looking at how piper almost teared up😥 you can tell he didn't agree with how the wrestlers "of color" were being treated
Almost no one agreed with McMahon/Dunn
Yeah thats why he did the half black face at WM6
@@cutekanjii Pathetic you are...
Pretty much my favorite bachelor of all time Piper he can be such a good storyteller and when he wants to be serious and something sad he can really say it in a way that he can paint that picture like he's doing now and he always does such a good job
I can't lie when I saw that as a kid I hated Piper..I mean HATED him..then got older realize it's entertainment and went to just disliking him.lol R.I.P. Piper and Snuka
I use to watch both Piper and Snooka before they were famous. I remember Jimmy did things in the ring that nobody else did, he started all of the acrobatics in wrestling.
I’d have to disagree with that. Argentina Apollo was in WWWF from 1963-68, and was the O.G. barefoot high-flyer. Snuka didn’t get started until the ‘70s.
Is Piper ready to cry? You can really feel how weighted down his heart is. So sad. ☹️🤐😯 RIP
He's LYING.
He went through a LOT in his early life, and alleged some sexual abuse at the hands of some of the older guys in the business. You could tell he was always running from something inside his mind.
rest in peace roddy piper god bless his soul
They always said that Jimmy was a team player in every way. He let a lot of less experienced and less talented wrestlers beat him in matches in order to advance the storyline and rivalry. He had no ego.
Back then, guys like Snuka were all about the business. Countless wrestlers have said Snuka was great to work with in the ring. He was an awesome athlete that could sell extremely well.
Shut up with the oh he murdered someone this guy is just explaining his experience with the man . Remember benoit
Remember seeing this on a Saturday morning when it aired; when we, my brothers and I were kids and Snuka was the stuff, and couldn't believe it. Felt bad for Superfly.
me too... it felt really dark in my young mind.... it always stuck with me, that uncomfortable feeling....
Same here. That made Piper the legend killer. Snuka was never the same. Buried.
Both these guys were great. Snuka was very underrated. Told him so.
He... was a murderer..
@@Gameboy-Unboxingswhat does that have to do with his wrestling?
Were you there? Do you know what happened? Maybe she had sex with his dad. Maybe she abused him daily. Take a seat white knight.
Snuka was so lucid in this interview it makes you think a lot of his out there stuff was a shtick. Piper rambles while Jimmy is perfectly well spoken.
How people remember things are different, so different and what one thinks is a horrible thing to do and regrets another has lived a different life and co.es to terms with different things and ones regret is another fortune. That's why it's important to return. And make peace with the past and most of all forgive yourself.
Piper is a little convuluted but he has also is trying to tiptoe around Snuka having a bad drug problem at this point and the thing that happened with Nancy. Whereas Jimmy wasn't really asked about that..
Lol yeah he played the "me no speak english" card when the police were interviewing him over his gfs murder. I wonder if any if them seen this interview. Mined u they got paid by vince to cover it up
Jimmy used to come to my little city to wrestle as a tag team when I was a kid in Yakima Washington in the old armory..... Roddy is a real man and another I idolized as a kid and still love.
Love Mr. Piper! Such a larger than life guy who deep down had a heart of gold.
Thank you for being a part of my youth.
R.I.P. 😔
A “heart of gold”? How about, a “heart of platinum”!
Piper was one of the great minds of wrestling. Excellent ring psychology, right up there with Jake Roberts, Raven, Al Snow, and all the others who talk about wrestling as a cerebral passion play.
Roddy is always in character !
Piper is real human being. He will be missed
Was
I was there that night front row of Pipers pit. I remember it like yesterday.
I dont dont that dead girl or her family would say 'Jimmy had a great Heart'
(RIP) - Rest In Peace
Rowdy Roddy Pipper
🔥🔥HOTROD🔥🔥
@3:38 "had a lot of coconut stuff in it."
Am I the only one who laughed hard at that?
Piper was a talent that Hollywood should have taken advantage of a lot more than they did. Miss the Hot Rod. Rest in peace King!
he was in a few movies. Bad movies but movies non the less. one was where he had a pair of sunglasses that allowed him to see aliens that were all apart of society. Horrible movie..
@@danielmeuler2877 Yeah, They live. Real cult classic stinker.
A lot of other people disagree. Not academy award. But a lot of people like it.
Piper was a great man! Great heel, even better face
After listening to these Piper clips he was amazing at selling the match or the pit or whatever his character was involved with.
"Such a wonderful man...beautiful heart...crafty murderer....they took advantage of him...they killed this guy's life..."
Yeah, and always check the fine print... where they get you...all the time.
This was amazing, When I was a little kid I remember Pipers Pit came on at like the 30 to 35 min mark in the show.
Snuka was huge here in the Northeast. I went to see WWF cards one Saturday each month at the old Boston Garden. At the end of each event an announcer announced the card for the next month and every time he said Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka the building was ready to crumble from the thunderous applause. My mother hated wrestling but came in when Snuka was on tv. She even invited herself to the events that I went to. She sat throughout except when he was wrestling. Michael Jordan had nothing on him. He was supposed to win the belt from Iron Shiek. He beat Backlund because Snuka had recently done a face turn and a babyface beating another for the belt was considered bad business. Then Snuka"s girlfriend died and he was a person of interest. So they gave it to Hogan then they poached other territories, became cartoon characters and became what I called "Sesame Street in Tights" because it was boring. I couldn't watch wrestling again until ECW came along. Coincidentally, their first champion was....Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Thank you, Paul Heyman, for making wrestling great again.
I remember watching that piper's pit as a kid, 8 years old or so, and it freaked me out. These were my 2 favorite wrestlers at the time and I was trying to figure out what had happened.
This was the first wrestling I ever saw. Friday night, stayed up late watching TV. Independent channel at the end of the dial. Turned it on and this was just starting. Blew me away. I was hooked and watched it every Friday night for months. Followed it until the 90's.
Use to go see Piper and Jimmy Snuka up here in the Pacific Northwest before they where superstars.
All the EGO Steroids and recreational drugs like Coke Most Wrestlers in that Era had to be a little Crazy, and that's Why Wrestling in the 1980s was real
😢 Two of my favorites, Piper because he made it feel real and Snuka because well he was super-fly.
Turns out in real life their characters were quite different from their real personalities.
Still brings back fond memories of my youth.
All the EGO Steroids and recreational drugs like Coke Most Wrestlers in that Era had to be a little Crazy, and that's Why Wrestling in the 1980s was real
Piper always looks so close to tears in these videos. 😥
What's ironic is no wrestler his peers have never said a bad word about Snuka but the wrestling fans talk plenty of hate speech on these archive videos.
Many wrestlers have difficulty categorizing him as a murderer, because the Jimmy they saw and often worked with was quiet, demure, respectful, and a genius in the ring. What's more, the programs he worked with them made each of them alot of money, as he was an incredible draw (especially in the pre-Hogan days). For Jimmy, I think he carried around the weight of that fateful evening for the remainder of his life (which is why he was always so quiet)- not only because of what he likely did, but because in all likelihood, he had no recollection of doing it. Drug addiction is a terrible thing. It affects each person differently - so much so, that the individual affected can become an entirely different person under the influence of it. Nancy Argento knew a monster that night. The rest of the world saw a different Jimmy Snuka.
@@semperconstance The rest of the world is misinformed. Wrestlers performed in those days all but 2 weeks out of the year. They were around each other more than their families. These guys know each other. The credibility favor the peers
@@marvelandgroup No, the rest of the world is not misinformed. Jimmy Snuka was a great guy when sober, when on cocaine he was a beast. Tony Atlas has regaled about his drug use, Nancy's family has also come forth about how he was off drugs and on. If you'd rather live in denial, that's your choice, but Snuka did kill Nancy while messed up on coke. Just before he died, Snuka was being charged with her murder.
czcams.com/video/YrJ8_DphXjk/video.html
@@DoppelgangerShockwave he died a free man up to 73 years old. How many wrestlers regularly on coke and steroids have lived that long?None What proof do you have that he did it ?
Never realized how much Roddy looked like Micheal J Fox.
And Jack tripper
John Ritter
You mean how they look like Piper?
@@jamesgabioud6654 Point taken.
I used to think Fox's attitude as Alex Keaton was modeled after Piper
Hot Rod was such a talented dude. I think he would have done just a well doing comedy.
He did.
@@jamesgabioud6654 Any videos of that? I'd love to see them. I bet he was hilarious.
@@steveharrington8705 A&E is doing like 8 bio's on different wrestlers. Stone Cold, Piper, Savage and so on. The Piper one was the second one they talk about it at or near the end. So far all the ones I watched were really good. I cried like a baby at the end of the Piper one. Piper is and always will be the GOAT. 🐐 Only one I didn't watch was Booker T. Never really liked or cared for him. 4 more left to watch. I recommend you check them out. As far as video I would say CZcams it maybe?

Great guy, Piper. Well missed.
Best era ever!! Sooo popular & loved they made cartoons where Piper was the LexLuthor Legion of Doom against Hogan..
I don't think people realize how big it was back then..
It filled the poniac silverdome for
Don’t forget, The Maniac loves ya.
I thought Snuka was at ringside with Hogan and Mr. T at WM 1 ?
He was but he wasn't on the card.
Snuka's headband, thickly braided, took the direct hit from the coconut. It still must've hurt like a coconut, but there was some shock absorber involved there.
Piper says it really hurt him and he was never the same on an interview w the brain and mean gene
Piper was awesome man
Ugh, this is heartbreaking.
#RIPHotRod
#RIPSuperfly 🤟
That pit changed my life!
RIP Hot Rod
Love Piper. He kept true to the business and kayfabed till the end. Saying that, theres no way that coconut was not gimicked. Go back and watch it. Not an ounce of juice comes out of it. If you ever handled one of those coconuts you will see how rock hard they are. Anyway saying that I still love piper amd I love him even more for keeping the buisness kayfabed and protecting it. Love you Hot Rod ALWAYS. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!! R.I.P.
This was post car accident, pre WM 19 Piper. Around the time of HBO and all that.
Ya know as adversely as this incident impacted Snuka it seems pretty clear that it really took a toll on Piper over the years.
He claims he only had 4 coconuts. Watch it again. He pulls out 4 and drops each one on the table. Then he takes out a 5th coconut that he did NOT drop on the table.
The wrestlers of that era never stop trying to working us ;-) Just watch Hannibal TV when Jannetty talk about the Barber shop incident and then compare that to the actual segment (and pay close attention to what Jannetty is doing with his hands)
Watch the video again, when he drops the 3rd coconut, the 2nd rolled off the table back into the bag
he looks like michael J Fox
Roddy is being honest but Jimmy was hurt
I wonder if he ever explained to Snuka later what led to that happening.
Piper went on to make plenty of money and main events while the promoters pushed Jimmy further and further down the card making less money.
Legendary
ROWDY RODDY PIPER & PIPER'S PIT! OG of Wrestling Tough Guys! Hot Rod would WAR! RIP Bro! You're "The Legend"!
Piper can pontificate like a preacher at the pulpit prophesizing
I love Piper....such a showman.....very tragic
2020 WWE has no one that could do a promo like piper early days...I stopped watching WWE so long ago I don't remember
"BRUDDER, U don't trust me?'
He did allegedly kill his wife, cocaine issue, so I see roddies issue of trust as ligit, guy coked out his nut, demands my trust, I'd have reservations.
I was at the Spectrum when Jimmy wrestled the Undertaker. I believe it was the Takers debut in Philly.
The match ended quickly and I was thinking this is probably the end of the SuperFly ..
God bless piper he was real no bs
Really such a wonderful man pretty sure a young lady in pa would beg to differ
I think he's unknowingly making a reference to the industry being partially responsible for Snuka's mental deficiency, with head shots.
I don't know why they didn't just cut a bunch of slots into the coconut so that it would easily break apart.
It's what most Karate demonstrators do with the items they chop with their hands.
They probably did, piper is always trying to keep kayfabe probably why he rambled in coherently in his interviews doesn’t want you to be quite able to decifer what it is he’s actually saying.
He hit him with the wrong one. There was one that was gimmicked and he chose the wrong one. Oops.
Roddy likes to make stuff up to make it more dramatic lol
The coconut was gimmicked though
Yeah, but WWF's gimmicks don't always go as planned.
The coconut Piper used to smash Snuka he didn't drop. It was the last one in the bag and he held it until he smashed it on Snuka's head. czcams.com/video/GKXpSyjfIik/video.html
I have cracked open coconuts before and those things are hard as rocks. Very difficult to open. No way would it explode like an egg against a person's head like that. Also, there were was no coconut water that went flying out. No doubt that coconut was gimmicked.
Roddy kept this one going until the day he died. Any sensible person knows like you said how hard a coconut is. It would never just explode like that and more importantly you would kill someone. Also, notice there's little to no water when the hit takes place. It was drained and precracked.
@@jeremyc9593 You can't FAIL to gimmick a coconut.
You crack it apart with a hammer or something, then tape it back together with invisible tape.
It's not like a guitar.
@@Messiah717 Yep, and put back together with Scotch tape..
I probably would've felt different had i not seen the vice doc about jimmy's girlfriend. Now, I'm glad he got the coconut.
Youll get 🥥 1 day
Wait, that was set up?
Of course it was a work .
Da maniac loves ya.
On May 10, 1983, a few hours after defeating José Estrada at a WWF TV taping at the Lehigh County Agricultural Hall in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Snuka placed a call for an ambulance. When emergency personnel arrived at his room at the George Washington Motor Lodge, they found that his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, had been injured. She was transported to Allentown's Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she died shortly after of "undetermined craniocerebral injuries." The coroner's report stated that Argentino, 23, died of traumatic brain injuries consistent with a moving head striking a stationary object. Autopsy findings show Argentino suffered more than two dozen cuts and bruises - a possible sign of serious domestic abuse - on her head, ear, chin, arms, hands, back, buttocks, legs, and feet. Forensic pathologist Isidore Mihalakis, who performed the autopsy, wrote at the time that the case should be investigated as a homicide until proven otherwise. Deputy Lehigh County coroner Wayne Snyder later said, "Upon viewing the body and speaking to the pathologist, I immediately suspected foul play and so notified the district attorney."[101]
Snuka was the only suspect involved in the subsequent investigation. Although charges were not pressed at the time against Snuka, the case was left officially open.
Besides the obvious Snuka moments , one i remember vividly as a kid was in AWA Col. DeBears pushed Snuka off the top rope to the floor and blood squirting a foot out of Jimmys head ! Then DeBears piledrove him on the floor ! I cant find footage of that on youtube . Maybe to brutal ? I havnt searched in a few years tho .
Every time he tells this story it's vastly different from the last one..
Before he died he did one last version of this story and I tend to believe that's the true one.
I heard another shoot were piper said he just winged it this is seems strange to me
@Hybrid Eye78 the whole wrestling industry was built on a lie and deception
Was this 2003?
Finding out about snuka murder allegations, I wonder what piper thought of it or knew about it
You could tell he at least knew of the allegations in this interview. He almost let it slip a couple times.
I’m almost certain a lot of them didn’t see that side to snuka, so it was probably hard to believe and easy to try to not think about.
Funny how times change...i feel worse about how piper took this than snuka
@3:00 yeah. murdered his gf.
"He's so talented, he can murder someone and they'll just cover it up."
Strange to see Snuka so big and as old man, he lost his muscles and upper build. Fast fwd... I seen 2 weeks ago Undertaker is now a frail old man too. Father time kicks everyone's ass!
He looks young for his age
Legend
Ask Snukas girlfriend what a great guy he is.
Her last words were cries for help......and Snuka snuffed her out.
I thought the Snuka vs. Don Murocco rivalry as better than Snuka/Piper.
McMahon had Snuka in his pocket because, McMahon paid off people in Pennsylvania due to the fact Snuka killed Nancy Argentino. So Snuka did exactly what Vince McMahon told him to do. Hot Rod had the best Mic skills for a wrestler in the 80's. So McMahon used Snuka's fame to catapult Piper as the No.1 heel in 1984 WWF, hence by crushing Snuka over the head with a Coconut.
TRUE!!!! Snuka killed his teenage GF, covered it up, Vince waved his hand and BINGO.....
Never could follow much of what was being said with that guy
Snuka wasn't A nice guy .He murdered a women .
2:43 do you confess to the murder of the innocent? Do you admit to raising your hand against people? If people love you, you tell it like it is. If this ain't a man I don't know what is. This is how you do it, when all apologies don't cut it.
This bit could never be done today. At the time it was quite shocking. I was watching wrestling and when this came on my mom came in and watched. When he hit Snuka with the coconut my mom turned the TV off. I later saw it at a friends house. Snuka agreed to all of it although he probably didn’t have much of a choice seeing as we all know what happens to wrestlers who challenge Vince. But My mom was convinced that Piper was the most racist human alive. Lol. I explained that it’s just a work but she still wouldn’t let me watch Pipers Pit anymore. She was fine with the rest of the show but she hated Piper. I thought Piper was awesome and I still do.
Well, accidents do happen, check Steve Austin’s account of the serious injury he suffered at the hands of Owen Hart. Sometimes I wonder if things really do get personal & reality sneaks in under the cover of choreography.
All the time look up that kid that jumped in with that guy from ECW his name alludes me this second but it's famous kid was dressed as a security guard and the guy nearly killed him
I've never seen a wrestler fly like Jimmy The Superfly Snuka. He was amazing. Even though he was a murderer.
Macho was pretty close, but Snuka was the best.
I don't know if i buy it.....
It was a gimmick coconut. Watch the original segment again. Roddy made sure he never dropped the coconut he hit Jimmy with. Once he picked it up he didn’t drop it.
