I had over 18 months sober and started building resentments towards a lot of people. Went out and drank and I’m now 1 day sober by the grace of God and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.

I remember Scott from Tennessee, just worked the fourth step and this is a great thing! I found myself getting rid of fears as writing the columns. I found out I have a passion for cooking since I was 7 years old. Showing up for my physical health and to the dentist is easier now, too.

DON'T take the first drink, DON'T judge others, remember, you're an alcoholic too. WHY are we surprised when people drink again? Alcoholism is a disease and sometimes, diseases can come back again. Reach out to someone who's drank again. You might just save their lives through Compassion and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. BE YOURSELF !

I have been battling addiction my entire life. I have been able to stay clean from narcotics since 1994, but I never quit drinking. I thought booze was no big deal. Then one day I drank so much I was in an alcohol overdose and didn't even know. I was in critical condition. I have been sober since 2017. A long relapse.

Just over two years sober. I’m having trouble with one resentment. My wife has a male friend that used to work with her and I was jealous of their friendship. He’s been retired a year and she talks to him for about 30 mins on phone 1-2 times a month. I’m assuming they text too and maybe talk from her work phone.
I don’t think it’s anything sexual affair. This was a problem for a few years when I was drinking. Today I don’t bring it up because we end up fighting. I eventually get “over it” until I find out she’s talking again.
This is truly about the only resentment I have. It’s hard to forgive something that tepeatly occurs and it’s painful at times. The good news is I’m not drinking one day at a time and God and AA and steps don’t allow me to lash out or take some poor actions. God is with me on how I behave which I’m so grateful for.

MY sponsor ok'd it for me to words it like this for example: she embarrassed me in front kd her friends and Co workers, she flirted with clients, she left our daughter unattended, etc. I wanted to excise each and every ery issue and instance like an infected boil. 19 words doesn't do it. I've read We Agnostics. Reads like a proselytizing handbook. Read the way people who don't believe are characterized. There is no positive spin or support for those who don't believe in a male deity. Disconcerting. But in the end, I keep coming back. Not picking up a drink or drug, one day at a time. Stacking days into weeks into months into years.

I have found that most people who come to AA do not believe in god. They do what Bill Wilson suggested and look for guidance from god as he expresses himself in our group conscience, I recommend looking up the definition of conscience, because it is basically what we believe to be true, good and right with regards to what is proper behavior. The group conscience is used because when sick we often do not have a clear image of which behaviors are good and healthy and right. Many people use the group conscience as their higher power, and this is not an alternative to the Big Book way, but is actually the suggested way in the book. The book also says that we pray ( in our own mind) only for knowledge of the will of this group conscience and the power to carry it out. It makes clear that prayer and meditation ( in our own minds) is the only way to achieve Psychic change, which is also called emotional change and to use the old timey word for psychic or emotional change they sometimes say spiritual change. This makes clear that you need to look to others, who are working on these same problems, for guidance to get your mind back on to a clear track, but that you and only you can have this psychic ( or as we say in modern times psychological) change based on a program of action. You have to remember that when this book was written, psychology was such a new field of study that most people had not heard the term, and if they had is was considered to be a newfangled theory which had just come around recently. Most people back then did identify with religion, and this book needed to emphasize religion over psychology in order to be taken seriously. In modern times we value just the opposite, but don't let that cloud your mind about the fact that this book says over and over that you need to change your mind by taking actions based on our collective understanding of right and wrong behavior. The book does not say that asking god to get his lazy as* in gear is how it works or the suggested solution. What people say in meetings on the subject is not necessarily what the book is saying. Just replace the word "god" with "group of drunks", replace "pray" with "remind your self often", and use meditation as what it is, which is to contemplate the correct answer to your questions about what the next right action is. I hope this helps, keep coming back!
