The weekend prior to the ACD pool tournament, I had setup 3 challenge matches at Griff's pool hall in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the last day of the challenge, I setup an exhibition match between the legend Efren Reyes and the #1 female world champion Siming Chen. Only a race to 3 in 10 ball but boy did they put on a show.
Asian Culture Day
I want to educate you on a monumental event that's happening in the great city of Las Vegas.
Last year, the Senate passed a bill, which was signed off by Nevada's governor Brian Sandoval, proclaiming May 18th as Asian Culture Day here in the state of Nevada.
As a Taiwanese born in Taipei Taiwan, I am very honored to be able to say I was a part of this festivity and I would like to invite you to come celebrate with us. We are throwing a big party all thru out Las Vegas from May 16th thru the 19th 2018 to celebrate the Asian Culture Day Holiday.
There will be multiple events thru out Las Vegas from the Fremont Experience, to the Rio Resort & Casino, and at the Orleans Casino.
One of the events, which I'm the producer of, is the 1st Annual Asian Culture Day Pool Tournament. For the pool enthusiasts, Efren Reyes is coming. For the people who don't know who he is, he's the greatest player that has ever lived. He is allowing us to call this his "Retirement Tour". We will also be presenting him with the first Annual ACD lifetime achievement award. HUGE!!!

I didn't give it a thumbs down myself. They're both excellent Pool players, but Pool's not as interesting to watch as Snooker. All a matter of preference, mind you.

I met Efren about 10 years ago. He came to a pool hall in my area. He played 9 ball with everyone. He let you break. But if you didn't make any balls in or missed a shot, he ran the rest of the table. I think 1 person beat him out of pure luck. A legend at its finest. Love watching him play. Very nice quiet guy too. Siming Chen is very good too. Thanks for posting. Love watching great pool games.

Check out 15:42, when Efren Reyes predicts where the cue ball will end up after deflecting off the target ball and then hitting five cushions. The cue ball stops right where he predicts. That takes top knowledge, experience, and skill. He is an amazing player.

She's the first female player I've watched who I'm genuinely impressed with. Her cue ball control and stroke are very impressive.
Her stroke is very similar to Allison Fisher. I will post a video of their match from ACD. It was awesome! One of the best matches I've seen live.

It's possible that this exhibition featured the greatest male pool player against the greatest female pool player of all time.
We know Efren already is. Only time will tell on Siming Chen.
Read the record books on Harold Worst. Then see if you think efren is the GOAT. Harold was a world champion 3 cushion billard player. Never played pocket billiards till he was 32. Won a english snooker tour title. Having never played it before. And won the world all around title at the stardust hotel in the 60's 3 or 4 months before he died of brain cancer at 36 years old....among many other titles in 4 years of playing pocket billards. Efren is one one the greats to ever play. But of all time ....i don't think so. Much respect for Efren though!

TheeOneUp I disagree. The only advantage Earl has over Efren in nineball is his break. Efren plays better safety's and kicks better and in my opinion plays better position. Although it doesn't prove it outright, Efren did beat Earl in "the colour of money challenge" in a race to 120.

I've played with him. He was at Shooters Billiards in Southington, Connecticut, USA for a about a month. He might even return for a couple more weeks!!!
He just loves messing around and playing for fun. Never takes the game serious, but somehow manages to be the best at it.
It's always a pleasure to watch 'the magician'. Wonderful game from them both.
Can we talk about how adorable Siming Chen was?
She was like a little kid who finally met her hero in person.
You can see that she was star struck and yet held her own
against pretty much the heaviest of heavy weight champs in billiards.

It's only an exhibition match. He's old, she's female.
Best to only 3 was a good choice because winning at such a low number doesn't show who's the best player. The best parts were when Chen showed respect to Efren's age by wanting to stack the balls at the beginning of each frame.

When I young and started to watch efren play at year 90's, I thought billiard in first place was easy but no it dont :),

Also many players at there best but when it come to play safety no ones has ever try insanely like he do, all they do was jump ball to just escape bad shot.
They always not try use the rail. They affraid what may happen and tired imagining in crucial moment including.pressure.
But.efren just playing it in excitement and thrill. He dont care what.may happen he just followed what he imagined on his mind and showed it well on us.
Thats why he is the unfair of billiard games.
Blessed in skill of creative mind.
He dont need to prove it for us, he already did it since he was played billiard games. :).

Efren still has it. I used to play at Efren's uncle pool hall in Manila and when Efren is there, he would teach some of us on what we did wrong in shooting the ball.... well, everything is wrong lol so I ended up just watching him play. When I move to LA, I still try to watch his tournaments and even in Vegas. But during cash games, Efren was a nervous wreck when he's playing with his own money but not when there are some backers to support him just like when he's hustlin some servicemen in Clark Air Base. lol

Efren played the safety to develop the 7 and 8 he's also showing his safety prowess and trying to get a win using a 3 foul rule
He would have never tried to get her to 3-foul in an exhibition match. He doesn't need to get a win that way.
The shot he left her was no gift. She made the best run of the match. Efren is one of the greatest to ever pick up a cue, but give Siming her due respect. She is a great player who made a very tough out.

Efren could not run out bcoz two balls 7 & 8 I think were together so he played a safety with the intention to make advance breaking.
Since only an exhibition the Magician did not use ball-in-hand to make the 1 - 10 combo , let the spectators enjoy a longer game.

Efren Reyes, or the magician, did not gain his exquisite and unique proficiency from nothing. He started playing pool since he was 8 y/o and now he's 65 y/o (dated today) which means he has been playing pool for 57 years (born August 26, 1954).
Efren has mastered the entire pool table angles, strikes force, unimaginable control and precision on the cue ball, and a very high self-confidence with absolutely no vanity (He's very humble and friendly by the way).
Two more things about Efren Reyes, he has never underestimated any opponent, and he has never neglected the calculation of any hit no matter how easy the ball is.

On the 8th day God created Efren Reyes and a pool table.
What was Efren trying to do at the 20:04 mark? Ball in hand, and he took that shot? Was he just being friendly, and wanted to prolong the match?
I think he was playing the smart pattern. He was trying to break those balls out and hook her trying to get the ball back for a easier clearance. Siming made a great jump.
He played safety and break up the two balls hoping she wouldn’t make the one but she played an excellent jump shot. That’s strategy

Yes that is because we are all getting old. I was explaining to my wife today that as we age we lose our ability at sight and coordination. We think of billiards and darts as simple games but a world class player will diminish in ability over time. Bata still can beat most of us ordinary players. I have had the opportunity to play in the Philippines. They have great players.

27:50 Class act of Chen to concede the match allowing Reyes to end on an unbelievable set up. He purposely made that harder than what he had to and she rewarded him with respect. She knew she had just played the G.O.A.T.
yeah i think he felt he wanted to make the penultimate shot harder so if he messes up he lets a woman win, that is what i felt, but the shot came out amazingly well - he just needed to bottom draw and not go five rails for that shot

That last shot by Efren was basically a statement. Us normal people would have just drifted the cue ball down for the 10.

It's an honor if you play with the legend of pool.
Efren has a good heart. In the philippines, he take easy on his playmates and even let them win in non-tournament games. After watching this video, it proves that even against a world champion, he still give her an easy play in a non-tournament game. Good effort from Siming tho but Efren respects her by not letting her win an easy play or give her the W. She will now understand the gaps of their level and probably make her practice even more. Great sportsmanship by Siming.

In 10 ball rules, other player has option to play or give back to other player to shoot. If scratch in pocket, then ball in hand.
would have loved to go for the tournament. didn't hear about it at all until seeing this video here today though. missed out on seeing both efren and siming in person, maybe next year if you'll have them again

I’ve watched a lot of Efren lately playing ten ball matches in the Philippines. I’ve only seen one Filipino who could match Siming. None of them seemed to have the passion that both Efren and Siming showed for the game. Would love to see Siming playing money games in the PI.
