      Was thinking exactly the same. For example, woodcutting would certainly at least swap places with fletching if not higher. Fletching is absolutely outdated as far as usefulness when leveling, while woodcutting trains firemaking, fletching, and construction. For mining and smithing, being able to create melee gear all the way from start to t90/92 by just simultaneously training mining and smithing is very useful itself.

    I personally would argue that using the 'can just buy that on ge' as a reason to rank certain skills lower is slightly unfair to the usefulness of those skills seeing as the are still needed in order to make the items in the first place, but overall pretty solid! Been playing for more years and more hours than I would like to admit, and you've definitely got the general gist of things. Happy to see magic above the other combat skills, as well as some non combat skills at the top due to their immense usefulness.

    There's a lot of people saying that cooking shouldn't be bottom tier because its used for PVM, please do realize... Protoxx is a maxed player. He Doesn't need to cook his food because he has the money to buy the Best foods needed, and he also has the relic ability Bait & switch. obtained at 99 Archeology so that he has no reason to cook his food, let alone if you're a main account, you can just buy all the food you need, meaning cooking is outright useless... If you're maxed.

  • @CosmicTBLobster
    @CosmicTBLobster Před rokem +4

    No disrespect but it is WILD to see a perspective of a wealthy high tier PVM player treating other players almost like NPCs by labeling any skill less than useful because "you can just buy the things this skill makes". Once again, no disrespect meant I just can't imagine that mind set behind a MMORPG analysis.

    • @josephmozena7640
      @josephmozena7640 Před rokem +1

      It makes sense, though, even from the position of a less wealthy player. Whichever skill you train for money making becomes far more profitable than any other skill you can train, and once you reach that point it makes more sense to just use your most profitable skill to buy the materials for the other ones rather than grinding up mediocre gathering/crafting skills for a lot less gp/hr. Thus, the most profitable gathering/money making skills are useful, and stuff like mining and woodcutting, while reasonably profitable, are just not nearly as useful as the skills which make considerably more gp/hr.
      I say this as a player who isn't terribly wealthy, and only has low 70 combat skills. It's not that all of the gathering/profit skills are completely useless, they're just interchangeable, and none of them are nearly as profitable as leveling up combat and fighting monsters. The gathering skills are okay for building up a bit of a bankroll, but they're all capped in gp/hr, and at some point, you need to use that gold to facilitate combat in some way in order to get beyond that cap. I like magic for that reason, since high alch is as profitable as most of the gathering skills, but is also a combat skill which will be useful beyond just being a gp generator.

    • @CosmicTBLobster
      @CosmicTBLobster Před rokem

      @Joseph Mozena That's why I said it was interesting. I completely disconnected from the opinion when it became purely profit and gp/hr. The thing is this is an MMO-RPG so doing things purely because they are gp/hr efficient or gp/xp efficient doesn't make sense to me. The skills themselves are USEFUL they just aren't profitable, which is something I would argue is an jmportant distinction not being made. The items these less useful skills produce are simply regarded as "You can just buy them" effectively reducing the skill and player who trained that skill and made that item into a shop/NPC equivalent. I'm not against gp/hr efficiency I just can't wrap my head around ONLY looking at things through that lens. It wouldn't even feel like a game anymore, just work but virtual lol. Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

    Cooking, Thieving, and Fletching could all benefit from non-tradable items at the Low, Mid, and High tiers of play. Fishing could roll into the cooking with non-tradable catches used in the Cooking upgrade. Mining already has uses if you don't won't to just buy the components for Smithing and Construction, but honestly at the high levels cost is no issue compared to saving game time by not mining. Woodworking just sucks. Once you have the skill at 99 it is such a time sink most people avoid it like it was Typhoid Mary.

      You have to understand, he is a pvmer, I don't think he sees the point of skilling because, as he said, it's decent money-making, but if you can pvm, you'll get a lot more money a lot faster, off-setting what you might lose from death office with the current rework, meaning anything that you can get via skilling you can just buy.

    • @xyarlo9369
      @xyarlo9369 Před rokem +1

      Yeah, it kinda hurt my soul to see Hunter being ranked so low until I realized that this list is just extremely skewed towards PvM and it would probably have been smarter to just commit to it being a purely PvM related list. Utility is also a misleading term. Constitution offers absolutely no utility whatsoever. It's a necessity, nothing more. It kinda speaks for itself that you're literally never actively training this skill ever at all.

    • @FuckedUpGenius
      @FuckedUpGenius Před rokem +3

      @@Aioaverona i understand he's a PvMer.. I'm a lore hunter, don't care much about skills and their grinds in general, let alone PvM grinds. I would obviously be more biased towards Archaeology for the extensive amount of backstory it provided, which I bet only a few people even read.
      But whenever I would rank skills from worst to best (not "I like the most"), I would have to look a lot further into the skills than just the things I like to do.
      For instance, I would rank Magic as Amazing, because it's not just a great combat skill, but it's one of the most, if not THE most, versatile skill in the game. It has relations to every single skill in-game, and interacts with nearly every item in-game as well. And it's also a combat skill. How can it not be the best skill?

    • @Aioaverona

      @@Wobbly777 @Big Jake Granted if you're good at PVMing and have the time to learn. Save for a few hardcore players that go out and learn most bosses and able to do them consistently on normal mode, your regular scaper will be perfectly find being at the fishing hub swarm fishing. You can make decent money there at 1.5m an hour, and that's what I've been doing on the side while doing school work cause I don't have to focus much. I'm sure that if I had much more time, and with the rework of the death cost, PVM will be a much viable option. Hell, if it wasn't for the PVM hub, I could bet you that Construction would've been at good or amazing because of what it offers, much more than prayer and magic IMO because you have the gilded alter (still do at the forts) you have the fountain of rejuvenation, (crystals at war retreat) you had portals (taken away because of load stones) and the personal slayer dungeon. But because of the way that they've changed RS3 in the past few years, skills that where deemed useful is now obsolete, and now has become a more PVM centric type game. It's not a bad thing don't get me wrong, but when you can get rid of 6 skills and the game will function pretty much the same, it just looks.. bad I guess? You can get rid of woodcutting and by proxy Firemaking. Why? You only use both for the bonfire boost, which is at war retreat. You could get rid of construction and just make fort quest base because you have pretty much everything there you need, sans personal slayer dungeon. thieving, because with again how the rework is, master farmer pointless cause slayer monsters drops seeds now, pick pocking for the the catalyst? Make that a crux farming reward, Hunting what big game hunter for dinosaur pelts when you could just get them as a slayer task and kill the rex bosses (blanking out on those 4 names). There's a ton of skills in the support category that you can get rid of, and the function of RuneScape will honestly not be changed at all what so ever, and that's pretty scary if you ask me.

    I am sorry, but I totally don't agree with most of the stuff. There is no way all of the main combat skills aint superior level and theres no way magic ain't the best skill. You even can't get charms without combat skills. Invention is also just a boring "support" skill (fiddles with some invisible percentages), no nice content there (no new pixels). Of new skills I guess archeology is the best, because it adds many new places. (skilling it is actually similiar to divination, which didn't add almost any new places). Dung is bad, because no variety in training, no alternative methods, like proteans or something. Thats just my opinion (began playing 20y ago).
    You rate everything in the game by the viewpoint of a maxxed out pro pliar, and publish it, like its for everyone. That makes you rate herblore above combat, though there is little use for herblore without combat. Not everything and everyone are focused on max DPS bossing and lategame grinding of billions. That's a very pvm-centric way to look at it. Invention and arch are quite useful for skillers, and both are far more fun to train than prayer. Prayer does have some uses in skilling, but it's the pvm where it shines. For being so well-rounded, invention definitely deserves that top spot.

      @@Heropsychodream fair enough. but, the game itself is also very pvm-centric. The faster you start pvming the faster you account will progress (by making money and such). Sure invention make skilling more efficient, but at the end of the day money will get more and faster xp. i see pvmers getting 200m and such faster than people who skill all day. this is a hot take, but i think pvmers explore the game more than skillers (they explore combat/ skill efficiently to not lose time/ and most go for comp and even trim). skillers fail to explore the pvming part in depth, and sometimes are even less efficient with skilling itself than pvmers.

    This tier list should have been done with a iron'esque aspect in mind, you are literally speaking mostly of endgame stuff to evaluate the usefullness of a skill and also including the "you can just buy food, so cooking is useless outside of quest requirements" approach which is kinda stupid as lots of supplies have to be finished by other players, regardless of what you state here. Not all items are collected or dropped in a finished state, which means, they have to be processed/finished by someone, grand exchange should not judge the usefullness of a skill, if that was the case, all skills outside of PVM would be mediocre or bad because majority of the stuff you need from them is buyable.
    Agility is literally bad.
    The only reason this skill has any value is the energy increase. Outside of that it is useless outside of saving you a few seconds in some places with shortcuts. Which is why this skill needs a light rework and have things like accuracy, crit and dodge/parry/block elements added to the game that involves agility as the core thing that controls those elements passively.
    Mining should not be under woodcutting, mining offers a way to build your character towards melee as you move on, woodcutting does not. Mining is worthy of mediocre, samething with Cooking because it allows to get a food supply which is required to survive PVM encounters. The need of a log for cooking is not always mandatory because there are cooking spots that require no logs to burn which completely turns woodcutting irrelevant outside of fletching.
    Woodcutting is the worst skill in the game, no debate. The use of logs has been nerfed over the years when it comes to firemaking, they made bonfire boosts, then made a permanent bonfire boost in the hub, they made permanent cooking spots more accessible. This impacts both firemaking and woodcutting. Woodcutting supplies the logs, if the logs are not required to cook anymore, that makes woodcutting extra useless and mostly focused in fletching department now. Plus the skill is outdated just like how mining and smithing were, there is no chance woodcutting can compare to mining after the rework. Mining and smithing allow for elder rune sets, which is a cheap introduction to bossing. Plus masterwork sets being currently endgame stuff for melee. Woodcutting allows the player to get incense sticks and ranged ammo, along with few ranged weapons to fletch.
    Hunter -> mediocre, it's not decent because the food you get from hunter is mostly garbage. If meat had more value in terms of healing, hunter would be more valuable than fishing. As it is right now, it isn't, so it is only fair to put it next to fishing in terms of utility longterm.
    Construction -> on top of bad tier, massive skill that serves little to no purpose right now. I know it helps with a few things here and there, like the storage, armour repair stand and probably 1 or 2 more things (like the new fort). These are 1 time things, things that could be good to use, but since it is a 1 time thing to unlock, the skill overall suffers from that issue where it lacks a purpose in the current landscape of the game.

    • @xyarlo9369
      @xyarlo9369 Před rokem

      I mean, if you think Hunter's purpose is to gather meat, then the entirety of your Hunter experience probably comes from lamps. Meat is the single most useless product gained from Hunter. That's like saying that Smithing is bad because ceremonial swords aren't endgame viable.

    • @CHT1992
      @CHT1992 Před rokem

      @@xyarlo9369 Looks like reading comprehension is not your thing. No where did i state that the focus of hunter is to gather meat alone, it is one of the key components of being a hunter, but meat in general is trash in this game when it comes to healing purposes which is why i compared it to fishing, which is the main healing source. A good portion of the creatures you hunt will give you meat, since meat has little to no use, it devalues the skill in the end because the healing part of the skill is not there.
      Hunter as it is, it tries to do a little bit of what other skills already do but falls short in the long run. It's easily the lowest decent skill in the list or has to be brought down to mediocre.
      Hunter would have had a much greater role, if it had a purpose similar to mining. And a more in depth source of unique resources like bones and skins (on top of meat actually being usefull). Then crafting would be tied in with turning those skins/bones into gear. This would make the skill decent or good even. But as it is, it's a hard pass.

    • @xyarlo9369
      @xyarlo9369 Před rokem

      @@CHT1992 I have no idea why you're so keen about the idea of meat being an essential part of Hunter. If meat were any good, Fishing would become completely useless. What about Summoning materials, salamanders, chinchompas, charms, scarabs, juju potions, BGH rewards or grenwall spikes? I'm still not sure if you've ever trained Hunter other than with lamps.

    • @CHT1992
      @CHT1992 Před rokem

      @@xyarlo9369 I am keen of that idea because the old skills could use updates to make them have a deeper purpose, instead of ignoring them and dishing out new skills all the time. More reworks like mining and smithing would help the game much more than having another new skill to grind every 2-3 years. They should instead make skill reworks (in pairs) every 2 years and release a new skill every 4 years untill reworks are done.
      Fishing would not become useless if meat was around. Fishing and banking is much easier than doing hunter for meat and banking (and like i mentioned, meat is one of the many components from hunter). Plus there are many ways to spread out the benefits of each type of food in the game. Fishes being the cheaper option for gp/heal due to amounts but meat could be used as a temporary source of boosts, making the use of spices even more relevant for all kinds of things, could even add plates to make meat based dishes work similar to pies or stew.
      Summoning materials? That is the next useless thing about hunter, tell me, who is going to do hunter to get specific supplies to then create summoning pouches. Only iron accounts will do that, and there are much easier ways to get cheap ingredients and in much faster quantities without having to do hunter for supplies. The only relevant ingredients from what i recall that come from hunter is raw bird meat (comes from npc store in stacks of 300 daily, so no purpose to hunt for these) and the arctic bear fur for the hunter boost, everything else is a waste of money/charms.
      Salamanders? Not even sure if that is a viable thing to do anymore, it might be easier to get ammo now on your own with the farming update, but i sincerely doubt people are going to bother with it for too long unless irons.
      Charms? This goes directly towards what i stated, hunter tries to be many things but falls short in the long run. If you want to get charms, i would say the main source of those is PVM and i believe most people do this since you can afk for charms...
      Scarabs is probably the one good thing about hunter right now that will stick with you longterm because it is utility. The only other exception is chins.
      BGH is bad for endgame, tier 3 dinos (the highest ones) are worst money makers when compared to tier 2, tier 1 even beats tier 3 dinos unless you get extremelly luck with tier 3. Only reason to do BGH is totem pieces and get a pair of d mattocks, beyond that i would sincerely just put the content in the shelves. Maul itself is not that great of an item, if it was a scythe instead of a maul, this item would have way more value and meaning to it, but since it is a maul... meh.
      Juju pots, i'm going to be honest, i've rarely used these. And when i decided to use them, perfect plus potion was released. Which makes the entire concept of using hunter to make juju pots completely useless and a waste of time early on. Which ties in with what i said about hunter trying to be a bit of everything but falls short in the long run.
      As for my experience with the skill, i got my way to 99 around when protean traps were released, i got my first protean traps reward after i got 99. I did mostly red chins and then grenwalls. I haven't touched hunter that much outside of some new updates here and there for a short amount of time. But my 99-120 grind is mostly derived from elder gods dungeon 3 skill plots outside of croesus. You can literally afk the skill there and make some money in return, literally makes hunter more enjoyable and less of a an issue to deal with. Because i sincerely hated leveling up this skill pre-proteans to 99.
      You tried calling me out on the lamps, you failed, i maxed my account in 2015 with majority of the grind being done PRE-EOC, back then, lamping to max was not as big of an issue as it is right now, i do recall doing some xp rewards from monthly or weekly stuff but that is about it. You would have to buy lots of keys for that if i had to rely on TH alone back then, while the current state of the game allows like 300k+ xp per day easily from free keys if using the right promotions. And there is no way in hell i would put that xp towards an easy skill like hunter. I do however use these xp rewards towards buyables or skills i consider annoying to level up beyond 99. This does not "ruin" the experience or knowledge with a skill, taking a long break from the game and then returning would cause more damage than using lamps/stars on a skill. Taking a long break implies loosing knowledge overtime and missing out on updates, it happened to me, but i caught up eventually.
