I’ve never seen a fly tied with wire. Amazing.
This has now become my standard "nymph" pattern if nothing is rising Davie. I tied a few at the beginning of the season and have caught more wild brownies and grayling on it than any other fly during the whole season. I touch of pink dubbing in the body is great for grayling so I'll continue with it once the trout season finishes in a couple of weeks. Thank you so much!

It's been a very good fly for me as well over the years especially on the river but also when I was a fishery manager it and the pheasant tail nymph were by far my best two patterns...Thank you for letting me know how well it has done for you...

You the man! In Arkansas, the most effective color is grey. And, that works most anywhere else in the east.

Dear Davie, a slight variant with orange UTC wire and Veniard UV film in olive caught my first two graylings. Thanks, pal! For the sake of durability I now put a drop of Loon UV glue on top of the back film and coat this with hard as nails, because Loon tends to get sticky and opaque. ATB, Norbert

A fantastic fly Davie, remember your anti-static buzzer? I have been tying the uv shrimp with the anti-static bag,it makes a great back for the fly,keep your videos coming cheers.

Hi Davie, since I did not have the fine copper wire I struggled with tying in the legs and the back. Here is an alternative which worked very well for me: Copper wire underbody, change thread to Peasalls #8 Purple, tie in the legs, tie in a small silver wire as rib, Hends UV Ice Dub #13. The back is formed after ribbing and brushing out the small legs with Loon/Bug Bond (first: thin coat to stabelise, second coat to form the back). The darker Pearsalls shines through. I like it.

Hi Davie...quick question about using the coffee grinder blending of dubbing...I just luv this shrimp pattern and have now got all the materials to try it out...I have the Spirit River UV2...really like the look of it...but it's not cheap so to make it go further I will be blending it with a bit of died rabbit fur as you suggested in this video. My question is...do you think its safe to put it the coffee grinder along with rabbit fur ?..its just that im visualising the strands of uv dubbing getting wound around the grinder shaft and mechanism...what do you think...worth a try or safer blend the two together by hand..?.
Im no where near your level of skill ...few are I reckon..but in my limited experience im finding some of the UV2 easier to dub than other of the same brand...peacock seems stiffer than say hares ear..just wondered if you feel the same about..

Why use copper wire instead of thread?

It adds enough weight to allow the flies to fish well and also a bit of colour. As you may see in the video I also tye a few other nymphs especially pheasant tail nymphs as they have caught me many fish over the years..
